Portfolio Artifact Description: Can O’ Your Town - Use graphics, paint tools, word
processing tools, drawing tools, and your digital image to create a label endorsing
your home town.
What you learned/overcame: It took me some time to visualize what I wanted the
layout of my label to look like. It took some trial and error and lots of readjusting to
figure out where everything coherently fit in such a small rectangle. I utilized lots of
shapes and clip art from Powerpoint to make my design pop. I also learned you can
duplicate a shape by pressing Ctrl+D, which was very helpful in creating the pattern
of suns at the bottom of my label. I think the hardest part for me was making the fake
barcode because it was challenging for me to make the lines completely straight and
the right length.
ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for STUDENTS (NETS)•S
Addressed: Standard #3: Knowledge Constructor - 3c: Students curate information
from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of
artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
Application of Skills Learned for the Future: This project is a great opportunity for
kids to express something they are passionate about. They would get to practice
using different tools in Powerpoint to create an interesting creative design. Not only
does this assignment touch on creativity and design, but it also teachers them how to
properly use a ruler to measure. It would be a lot of fun to see students design labels
about themselves.
