BUSINESS ETHICS: CLASSICAL PHILOSOPHY USED IN BUSINESS

Reflection
Socrates:
As an employee we should have the courage to speak out, especially if something
inappropriate is happening at our workplace. And if whatever the consequences or the result of
this action we should be ready in dealing and facing with it positively. For as long as we do this
for the goodness of everybody.
“He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature “

Plato:
In entering to a company as an employee we should know what kind of work are we
inclined to or what really fits to us. Because if we know what really is our passion in working
then it is not hard to for to work unto something. Instead we as a worker can work with
enthusiasm in everything assigned to us to do.
“Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge”

Aristotle:
As leader or a manager in a business it is important to encourage the employees so that
they will work harder and be productive every day at work. And through this way an employee
can create or can have a great output or performance at work. Also as a manager it is our
obligation to congratulate and give them rewards for their job well done.
“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light”

Confucius:
To be an employee we should not just work because it is needed for us to gain money.
Because the essential thing that we should put in mind is to love our job. So that in every
accomplishment that we can achieve we can say that this is not just a work but our passion and to
do this kind of work is not just for the money but also for the things we love to do.
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop”
Plutarch:
Being a manager we should be responsible of the things that we do than what we say.
Because our employee will look on what we are showing to the company on how we deal with
every situation with responsibility and optimism. For as we know an employee follows the
manager so as a manager we should act the way what we want our workers would be, because a
good leader comes with a good follower.
“What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality”

Epictetus:
If there are problems in the company or business we should not just focus on the problem
because we can’t control it. Instead we should do things that is possible for us to do. Ways that
can help to overcome problems and challenges because if we concentrate on the things that we
can possibly do then everything will have a solution and everything will come in to its place
appropriately.
“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters”

Musonius Rufus:
A manager and an employee should make contact to one another, for they both work for
the company’s progress. Both can experience mistakes and failures but must put in mind that
everything happens for it is a way for us to grow, to learn things and help us improve ourselves.
The most important thing is that we should always look unto our improvement for it will lead us
to become a positive and productive employee or manager to our workplace.
“The greatest admiration gives rise not to words, but to silence”

Epicurus:
As an employee we have our own happiness at work, it may be to become the best
employee or to become the next manager in that company. But along the way into our happiness
we can experience a lot of pain, not just physically when we’re tired but also emotionally when
we feel like we haven’t done so much good towards our happiness. But because of this pain we
can achieve that goal that can make as a lot happier, that is why it is better to experience a lot of
pain for it has a never ending happiness as a reward in the end.
“It is impossible to live a pleasant life without living wisely and well and justly.”
