A Brief explanation about

Cascaded H-bridge
Multilevel Inverters

Cascaded H-Bridges
In the cascaded H-bridge, the multi level inverters use capacitors and
switches and require less number of components in each level.
The price and weight of the inverter are less than the other two types
inverters.

Advantages:

1. The number of possible output voltage levels is more than twice the
number of dc sources
(m = 2s + 1).

2. The series of H-bridges makes for modularized layout and packaging.

This will enable the manufacturing process to be done more quickly and
cheaply.

3. It needs less number of components compared with diode clamped and

flying capacitor inverters.

Disadvantages:

* Separate dc sources are required for each of the H-bridges. This will
limit its application to products that already have multiple SDCSs readily
available.

Applications of Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter

 Motor drives
 Active filters
 Electric vehicle drives
 DC power source utilization
 Power factor compensators
 Back to back frequency link systems
 Interfacing with renewable energy resources.
