With laser marking

PA with 0.4% Iriotec® 8835 and
0.1% carbon black
Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
PA shows very nice light colored marks – if the amount
of carbon black is limited to
0.1%. Discover the camels
in front of the pyramids
to judge the laser marking
quality for yourself.

PP with 3% Iriotec® 8208

Sydney Opera, Australia
Iriotec® 8208 allows very good contrast and definition
at high marking speed.
Its marking results are inde-
pendent from the polymer.
It will work in PP just as
well as in a TPU or POM.
Its only limited by temperature
(<  280  °C) due to the PE carrier of Iriotec® 8208.
Notice the people outside the Sydney Opera.

PA with 1% Iriotec® 8840

Mount Rushmore, USA
The remarkable details in this picture are the light
and dark colored areas in
one material. Though PA
typically shows a light
colored mark, with this
formulation you can
also achieve a dark mark
depending on your laser settings.

PC with 0.4% Iriotec® 8835 and

0.1% carbon black
Torii Gate, Japan
PC usually shows a dark mark, but with Iriotec®
8835 a light colored result
is possible (please note,
the amount of carbon
black needs to be limited
to 0.1%).

Laser marking is generally accepted There are three main factors for the
to be the best way to permanently realisation of an optimal laser mar-
mark thermoplastics: Eco-friendliness, king result. It´s the interplay between
durability, indelibility and flexibility are the polymer, the suitable laser and
just a few aspects that make it more the laser parameters to be used. More
advantageous than other marking information concering the new laser
techniques. Which additives should generation and laser software, including
you employ to achieve top-quality, the possibility of indicating 256 gray
high-contrast laser marks? As a leader scales, can be found on the following
in laser marking know-how, Merck website: www.rofin.com
offers you two first-class solutions:
granule- and pigment-based additives
from our Iriotec® 8000 Series. This box
includes 9  platelets made of different
thermoplastics showing the advantages
of Merck laser sensitive pigments.

PC natural, 0.1% Iriotec® 8825

Brandenburger Tor, Berlin, Germany
PC is a very transparent polymer which allows dark
marking with low addition rates
of laser additives. 0.1% of
Iriotec® 8825 already shows
a contrasting mark with
high definition and high
marking speed.

PP with 0.3% Iriotec® 8825

Big Ben, London, United Kingdom
PP is less sensitive for laser marking than PC, therefore
an addition of 0.3 % Iriotec®
8825 is recommended for
optimum marking results.
PP shows carbonisation as
well as foaming. To avoid
surface roughness, the focus
was put inside the chip. Therfore the marking can
hardly be felt.
