INTRODUCTION
The name “Hollywood” comes from the infamous Californian region in the Western
America.
Once upon a time, H. J. Whitley arranged to buy 500 acres of the town we now know
as Hollywood. Whitley was a prominent landowner already, having already started a
number of towns in the west, and today he has become known as the ‘Father of
Hollywood.’ Later on, in 1887, Harvey H. Wilcox officially established the name
‘Hollywood’ when he recorded it on the land’s deed.
“HOLLYWOOD” stands from the names of the ones involved in the settlement of the
city:One of the most common rumors thrown around today is that these founders
chose the name to reflect the prominent presence of a beautiful, holly-like bush
throughout the city. The plant was what is known today as Christmas holly, which
grew rampantly throughout the Santa Monica Mountains and nearby areas.
However, the only evidence remaining today for the name’s true origins come from a
page out of the diary of Whitley himself. According to an entry, one day in 1886
Whitley was standing at the peak of a hill when a man came by with a wagon carrying
wood. The man stopped to say a few polite words, explaining to Whitley that he was
‘hauling wood.’ The man was a foreigner, and as such his thick accent caused the
words to sound like ‘holly wood.’ Hearing these words, Whitley was inspired,
deciding that ‘holly’ could represent England, while ‘wood’ could represent his
Scottish origins, creating the perfect name for his new land.

Chapter I
1.1 THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY
There's no secret in the fact that fashion had played, plays and will be playing a big
part in the Hollywood industry. Four times each year, all designers try to convince the
richest celebrities to wear their garments. But apart from it, all of them gather together
during what is widely known as “Met Gala”.
On its official name, the Met Ball is a celebration organised religiously on the first
Monday in May, organized by Costume Institute of Metropolitan Art Museum of New
York on 5th Avenue. Every year, the most prominent celebrities of the year celebrate
together the fashion history theme proposed by Vogue and raise founds for the
Costume Institute department.
All designers bring their muses, all respectable photographers and journalists from all
over the world try desperately to take a photograph in which is considered to be the
most important night in fashion every year.
The 2019 Ball was sponsored by Gucci, its hosts being Serena Williams, Lady Gaga
and Harry Styles. The theme of the gala was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” inspired by
Susan Sontag's seminal 1964 tract.
Celebrities whom are not regular of famous brands like Beyonce, J Lo, Kanye West
for Versace, have to “buy their seat at one table” with the minor sum of $30,000.

The Met Gala was established in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a way
to raise money for the newly-founded Costume Institute and mark the opening of its
annual exhibit. The first gala was a dinner and tickets were fifty dollars each. For the
first few decades of its existence the gala was simply one of many annual benefits
held for New York charitable institutions. Accordingly, the attendees of the early
galas were almost entirely members of New York high society or the city's fashion
industry. From 1948 to 1971, the event was held at venues including the Waldorf-
Astoria, Central Park, and the Rainbow Room.
When Diana Vreeland became consultant to the Costume Institute in 1972, the Gala
began to evolve into a more glamorous affair, although one that was still aimed at the
societal set. The event started to become more celebrity-oriented with attendees like
Rihanna, Diana Ross, and Cher intermixing with the city's elite. It was during the
Vreeland years that the Gala was first held at the Met and that Gala themes were
introduced.

2.1 DESIGNERS THAT TRANSFORMED FASHION
INTO ART
the first “Lee” show aired in 1992 as a graduation show from London Fashion School.
From its outrageous name, ”Jack the Ripper stalks his victims” who created his iconic
tropes, from featuring a hologram of his dearly muse, Kate Moss, McQueen did them
all.
Another iconic yet extremely controversial show,” Highland Rape”, based on his
massive history knowledge combined with his real sexual abuse from childhood,
made his name inside picky fashion critics.
Anna Wintour is one of the most famous and appreciated fashion critic in the world
.She was an editor for British Vogue and, during 90s fashion shows, she was used to
be called “atomic Wintour” due to the power she had over sales of the brands.
She took over Met Gala organisation in 1995 and, since then, she raised for the
Institute over $200 million of dollars, transforming it in the most exclusivist fashion
gathering in the world.
She used her infamous friendships with celebrities to create one of the most iconic
events in the world after the Superbowl, or, how Vogue editor Andre Talley likes to
address it, “The Superbowl of fashion”.
She is currently a trustee for Metropolitan Museum and editor in chief for American
Vogue.
In 2016, Michelle Obama honoured Wintour's hard labour and opened the Anna
Wintour Costume Center.

2.3 SAD MOMENTS IN ITS HISTORY
In 1997,after the horrible assassination of Milano based designer Giani Versace, the
Met Gala was a tribute to his rapid and unexpected death. The name of the Ball was
simple “Giani Versace”.
As well, after the suicide of the legend Alexander McQueen in 2010, the following
year Gala was a homage to him being called “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”.

CHAPTER III
After the paparazzi glamour level ends, celebrities are directed to enter the Museum
through specifical coridors and enters. The first thing you will actually see the moment
you’ve stepped inside the Museum is a beautiful oval small garden, with loats of floral
arrangements and artesian fountains.A lot of famous people chip chat in here, holding
a glass of fine champagne. Then, around 20 employees from of the Museum’s staff will
welcome you on the imposant staircases that make access to the actual exhibition of
the garments. This is one iconic view towards Museum’s whole magnificient
architectural design. The baroque mixed with elements of classical yet exuiste
American design of important buildings in New York(e.i The National
Library),makes The Metropolitan Museum an important piece of architecture.
Celebrities are given a free tour of the exhibition and afterwards, they serve dinner
prepared by the best cooks with the latest trendy dishes. Some dishes are vegan or
gluten free, depending on the celebrity requests. The tables they dine on are formed
from 9 seats and are round. The seats are carefully arranged by Anna Wintour and her
more-than-highly-professional-assistants based on celebs
rivalty, fame, power, contracts, publicly likeness or famous friendships. Also,is not
unheard of famous people being turned down from Met direction because they are not
relevant enough.
Some “nasty” rumours flying around say that celebrities use to lock in the all paved
marble restrooms to gossip, get high or use some illegal drugs and then take amusant
selfies. The night ends with a private party and around 6 AM(hopefully),everyone is
back in their hotel rooms.Very few little press is allowed during the private event, the
little photos surveiled were posted by starts themselves on Instagram.
