CONCLUSION
Parameters affecting the illuminance level :
• Dimensional value of courtyard.
• Geometry of courtyard
• Orientation.
• Size of enclosure.
Dimensional value of courtyard:-
The shape of courtyard may vary from
building to building according to the
light and ventilation and users need.

But strictly speaking the height and

width ratio of courtyard must follow
the dimensions of width and height
ratio to fulfil and satisfy the qualities
of the courtyards without becoming an
open to sky shaft for the only purpose
of light and ventilation.

Usually a courtyard width is equal to

or about half the height of the
building. Courtyards at all levels shall
have area not less than the square of
1/5th of the height of the highest wall
abutting to it.
Geometry:-
Geometry provides the shape and form of the courtyard. Example:

Orientation:-
The orientation of the courtyard is the location and the number of courtyards in a building.
LUX
 Lux is a measurement of the overall intensity of light within an environment for any given
area or distance from the source or lux is the amount of light in an environments perceived
by the human eye.
 Quality of light in workplace, schools and public buildings affect the quantity and quality of
performance in workers and students.
 In other words, the lux is a unit of measurement of brightness, or more accurately,
illuminance. The illumination is how level of luminous flux is falling on a surface area.
 The luminous flux is visible component that is defined in radiant flux (light power) divided by
relative sensitivity of human eyes over the visible spectrum.
 This means the Lux is well fit to light level from sense of human eyes. Lux is ultimately
derives from the candela, the standard unit of measurement for the power of light.
