1. What does thermodynamics’ study?

a) Studies the transfer of heat and its applicability to engineering.

2. What is combustion?
b) When fuel burns chemical energy is released is heat. This process, called combustion, is
used to generate heat in many situations. People use energy from combustion in car
engines natural gas stove, and campfires.

3. What does a thermal conductivity affect?

a) When objects come into direct contact, they transfer heat by conduction. A material's
thermal conductivity affects its ability to transfer heat by conduction.

4. When does convection occurs?

a) occurs when heat is transferred through molecular currents in a fluid. Conventional
ovens and automobile engine cooling systems transfer heat by convection

5. What is thermal radiation?

a) Thermal radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves. Heat energy
from the sun is transferred to the Earth as radiation. This process is also used in
microwave ovens.
