PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Without a doubt, mechanical

engineering is the most
ancient field of engineering.
Despite first being recognized
as a specific field in the 19th
century, mechanical engi-
neering has existed since
antiquity. The practice and
knowledge of mechanical
engineering has graced
humanity ever since homon-
ins in the paleolithic era developed tools to work and live. Humanity’s
journey from the development of simple devices such as the first
wooden wheel in the Neolithic era, more complex contraptions like
siege trebuchets and wind powered mills in medieval times to
modern robotics and spacefaring vessel design, was made possible
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
MASTER PROGRAM

due to mechanical engineering knowledge.

Mechanical Engineering covers the development of devices, the
processes to produce and manufacture those devices, and the means
to ensure, maintain and even further enhance their operation. To be
able to do this, a mechanical engineer must master the principles of
mechanics, design, manufacturing processes, material science, energy
transfer and conversion mechanics. The breadth of mechanical engi-
neering allows it to be the most versatile branch of engineering. It has
been and will continue to be pivotal in the development of mankind.
Our master program in mechanical engineering is designed to
empower our students with those principles and skills mentioned
above through four main study paths:

1. Energy
2. Engineering Materials
3. Integrated Design, Mechanics and Manufacturing
Students can select the path of which they feel most interested in and will conduct
their thesis research project within their chosen path. However, students may also
have the opportunity to learn and work across paths in multidisciplinary projects.
Courses and the thesis research project will be conducted within two years of study
of which when completed, students will earn their Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)
degree.

GRADUATES COMPETENCES

Our master program in mechanical engineering aims at improving capability in

thinking, conducting research, knowledge advancement and self development skills
of the graduates. Graduates are expected to be able to give real contributions taking
account of the practical knowledge in mechanical engineering they have perceived
to the development in their careers, either as researchers, teaching staff, or expert
on industrial design and engineering.

TESTIMONY

"Academics life in DTMI is mind-blowing. When I was a master student,

I took both energy and applied mechanic courses, allowing for close
interaction and discussion with experienced professors in both fields.
Many opportunities on and around campus are overwhelming. All
students with many different backgrounds are supportive and give me a
broad view of my future career personally."

Ardi Wiranata, M.Eng. (2014-2016)

Ph.D. student at Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan

I am grateful that I was able to finish my master degree in Mechanical &

Industrial Engineering Department, UGM because the lectures, the
facilities, and the resources were helping me exploring my passion in
automation. I had Mechanical Engineering bachelor degree, but during
my Master Degree program, I was able to cross the boundary and
deepen my programming skills & knowledge in automation, and
certainly this helped me a lot in my current job in Industrial Automation
company. The learning environment that are available in the campus will
help students to explore their passion and potential.”

Rizky Muhamad Ramadhan, M.Eng. (2014-2016)

Manufacturing Engineering, PT. Omron Manufacturing of Indonesia

Master of Mechanical Engineering UGM is one of the Best Mechanical

Engineering Master's Programs in Indonesia with an Excellent
Accreditation rating. Master of Mechanical Engineering UGM has
professional teaching staff in their field and has the latest educational
and research facilities

Dr. Teguh Dwi Widodo, M.Eng. (2008-2010),

Lecturer in Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, Indonesia

Studying in Master Program of Mechanical Engineering of UGM was a

life-changing experience for me. It helped me to excel both in
academics and developing my personality overall. Research and
education qualities were fascinating, supported by various chances to
get international exposures. Within this program, I had an opportunity
to enjoy Summer School at Kyushu University, Japan, then finish part of
my thesis at HZDR Germany (2014). This college really helped me stand
stronger and paved the way to my future academic career.
