Performance Standard:

The learner consistently follows Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures
for controlling hazards/risks in workplace

Learning Competency:

Hazards and Risks in the Workplace

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

1. Define hazards and risks;

2. Identify hazards and risks in the workplace;
3. Identify the hazard where corona virus is classified;
4. Enumerate measures on how to control the spread of corona virus in the
workplace and community;
5. Give the materials used to protect oneself from corona virus; and
6. Demonstrate how to wash hands using soap and water..

Content: Hazards and Risks identification and Control on COVID 19

Learning Resources:

a. . Reference: K-12 TLE Learning Module on Commercial Cooking, pages 86-87

b. Instructional Materials: pictures, soap, water, alcohol, face mask, face shield,
gloves

Procedure:

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson (Balik-aral sa nakaraang

aralin at/o pagsisimula ng bagong aralin)
Have a short review on the definition of hazards and risks.

Hazard is a thing, substance, materials, source of energy, condition, process, and

practice that has the ability to cause harm.
Risk is the adverse effect to a person under certain conditions.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Paghahabi sa layunin ng aralin)
In this lesson, you will learn the different types of hazards in the workplace where
corona virus is classified in one of them. How to control the virus from infecting
people will also be discussed.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson (Pag-uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa bagong aralin)

Identify the following as to hazard or risk. Write H for hazard and R for risk.

______ 1. Leaking gas

______ 2. Loose electrical outlet
______ 3. Wet floor
______ 4. Too much worries
______ 5. Corona virus
______ 6. Chemicals
______ 7. Broken chair with nails
______ 8. Man who fell on the floor
______ 9. Hot pot
______10. Man sitting with wrong posture
Analyze your answers. Check them after understanding the types of
hazards.

D. Discussing new concepts (Pagtalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #1)
Ask the following questions:
What are the types of hazards?
Explain each.
Identify the risks.

Show a slide deck on the following hazards with pictures:

1. Safety hazards: Inadequate and insufficient machine guards, unsafe workplace

conditions, unsafe work practices.

2. Biological hazards: Caused by organisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and

parasites.

3. Chemical hazards: Solid, liquid, vapor or gaseous substances, dust, fume or

mist.

4. Ergonomic hazards: Anatomical, physiological, and psychological demands on

the worker, such as repetitive and forceful movements, vibration, extreme
temperatures, and awkward postures arising from improper work methods and
improperly designed workstations, tools, and equipment.

5. Physical hazards: Noise, vibration, energy, weather, electricity, radiation and

pressure.

6. Psychological hazards: Those that are basically causing stress to a worker.

This kind of hazard troubles an individual very much to an extent that his
general well-being is affected.
E. Continuation of the discussion of new concepts (Pagtalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng
bagong kasanayan #2)
Ask the following questions:

A. In which type of hazard can you classify corona virus?

___________________________________________________

B. What is corona virus?

___________________________________________________

C. How can you acquire corona virus? Answer with YES or NO

______1. Meeting people with history of travel abroad.

______2. Exposure to infected persons.

______3. People not observing social distancing.

______4. Going out of the house anytime while on ECQ.

______5. Not wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

D. How can you prevent or control the spread of corona virus? Answer with YES
or NO

Corona virus can be controlled by:

______1. Observing social distancing anywhere

______2. Avoiding people without face masks

______3. Staying at home

______4. Washing hands more often

______5. Using disinfectant and sanitizer

E. What are the materials needed to protect you from getting corona virus? Arrange
the letters to form the materials. Write their uses opposite the materials.

3. REAWT ______________________

4. NABSI ______________________

5. HCLAOLO ___________________

6. EWLTO_______________________

F. Developing mastery (Paglinang sa kabihasnan)

Demonstrate how to protect yourself from getting corona virus using soap, water,
alcohol and wearing of face mask. Take a picture or video of the activity

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living (Paglalapat ng

aralin sa pang araw-araw na buhay)
Look for hazards in your home or barangay and identify the risks.

Ex.
 People not wearing face mask to protect themselves from corona virus.
 Laborers not wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in a building being
constructed
 Broken switch
 Broken chairs with nails

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson (Paglalahat sa aralin)

Learning the hazards and risks may protect you from harm and corona virus as
well as your classmates, teachers, and other students.

I. Evaluating learning (Pagtataya ng Aralin)

Direction: Match Column A with Column B. Write letters only.
