My Loyalty
The infamous question “Jollibee vs McDonald’s” has been around and about since I first
ate at both stores. My family would ask me what did I prefer and, being the kid I was, I
remember choosing Jollibee as it had a bigger play place in our area.
Today, I attempt to answer the same problem I was asked years ago. The only distinction
is that I will answer this in the most objective metric possible, net profit. This is not about what
I would prefer, it is about who is more successful and who brings in more money than the other.
I will look into the companies' net income here in the Philippines. According to
Statista.com, in 2018, McDonald's earned 1.8 billion pesos while the homegrown Jollibee Inc.
earned a whopping 7.8 billion pesos - a 6 billion difference surely tips this in Jollibee's favor.
Another way I could look at this is to look at their mission and vision. Jollibee's mission
is 'To serve great tasting food, bringing the joy of eating to everyone.' and I believe that they are
continually serving the Filipinos according to their mission. Compare that to McDonald's
mission: 'To be our customers’ favorite place and way to eat and drink', As grand as it may
seem, if examined closely, it does not hold to be true. It's not every customer's favorite place, it
may be true for some but it's never true for all. I know it’s not true for me.
