Animal Farm

Chapter 8
-Commandment had not been broken “No animal shall kill any
other animal…without cause”
-Squealer convinces the animals they are now better than in Jones´s
days ( Karl Marx had theorized the need for a “dictatorship of the
proletariat” during the early years of his prescribed revolution. In
Russia, Stalin and his colleagues used Marx’s theories as a
justification for their increasingly violent and tyrannical actions)
-Napoleon now is rarely seen. Squealer is sent to give orders to the
animals.
-The gun will be fired a third time: for Napoleon´s birthday.

-Minimus, the pig poet, wrote a poem to Napoleon that was

inscribed on the wall along with the Seven Commandments and a
portrait of Napoleon painted by Squealer.
-Executions continue.
-There are rumours that Frederick is planning to attack the farm.

-The windmill is now finished. They only need the machinery. It is

called Napoleon Mill.
-The pile of timber was sold to Frederick, but he paid with fake
money ( Stalin signed the Non-Aggression Pact, an agreement not
to wage war on each other, with the German leader Adolf Hitler )

-Frederick and his men with guns finally attacked the farm and
destroyed the windmill. ( Hitler almost immediately went back on
his word—as is evoked by Mr. Frederick’s forged banknotes—and
invaded Russia’s western frontier, eventually killing over twenty-
five million Russians and demolishing much of the infrastructure
that the Soviets had built since the Russian Revolution )
-The animals won the battle but most of them were wounded and
some died.
-The pigs want to celebrate, but Boxer says this is not a victory.
-The battle will be called “The Battle of the Windmill” ( Battle of
Stalingrad )
-Pigs got drunk with whisky they found. Napoleon thought he was
dying, but it was simply a hangover.
-At first Napoleon said that the drinking of alcohol would be
punished by death, but then it was decided that the farm would
start brewing beer.
-We find out that it was Squealer the one that was changing the
commandments.

-Now the fifth commandment reads “No animal shall drink

alcohol…to excess”
