Computer Assignment
Q.1. What should you consider when choosing any network topology?
Ans: Following factors should be considered before choosing a network topology:
1) Ease of Implementation: bus and star topologies are best options to choose rather than
mesh, tree and hybrid as bus and star are easy without vital IT training for individuals and
beginners for implementation.
2) Budget: the topology that should be selected must be affordable. if any topology is
unaffordable even if it fits well, it is not suitable.
3) Hardware resources: Certain topologies work well with certain hardware and vice versa.
Before selecting any topology, available hardware’s should be considered as well.
4) Reliability: High reliability should be the top concern if choosing the topology for industry.
Ring topology performs well but is disposed to single failure, star topology do not depend on
nodes but collapses when hub fails.
5) Size of network: some topologies are inadequate or expensive when applied to large
networks. Tree topology works well with large organizations and bus topology for small
organizations.
6) Future expansion: if you want to or expect to expand your organization opt for the topology
that is scalable.

Q.2.Which of the following network topologies contains a backbone which runs the length of
the network? (01 Marks)

Ans: Bus topology contains a backbone. Bus topology is used for LAN and contain many nodes
connected to single cable called a backbone.

Q.3. What piece of hardware is usually at the center of a star network? (01Marks)

Ans: Central hub is usually present at the center of star network.

Q4. What would happen to the entire network if one of the nodes in the bus-wired network
failed? (01 Marks)

Ans: Data would not be transmitted any longer to and from any node as the failed node will not
transmit data
Q.5. What are the main advantages of a star network? (01 Marks)
1. if one cable or device fails then all other devices or cables will not stop working thus it is
very reliable
2. no data collisions occur and is high performing
3. Star topology allows to extend the reach by creating multiple users
4. It is scalable
