KG * Gremon 32 * 20457 Hamburg Subject: Innospec Fuel Additive Octamar™ BT-25 Nordic Shipmanagement took management of a 57,000 DWT bulk carrier in 2012 We were immediately faced with severe heavy sludging, separator and filtration problems from the 180MT of low sulphur heavy fuel oil remaining on board. Whilst 1$08217 analysis did not indicate a problem, more advanced fuel analysis confirmed a very unstable batch of fuel, and Innospec Limited was approached to offer a solution Innospec recommended Octamar™ BT-25 (concentrated dispersant/stabiliser and combustion Improver) that was supplied to the vessel and manually applied to both the bunker tank and settling tank. This additive allowed us to use 95% of the problem fuel, which otherwise was unusable and would have had to be de-bunkered The ability of this additive can represent a huge cost saving in cases such as this. Alternatively, as recommended by Innospec, if used on a regular basis, further cost savings will be realised from reduced sludge enabling more fuel to be burnt in the engine. To prevent any further issues from unstable fuels Nordic Shipmanagement are in the process of stocking a quantity of Octamar™ BT-25 on each of our vessels as a precautionary measure.
