Listen to the podcast of Julio Diaz

1) Opinion of Julio Diaz and his actions.

For some people is really hard to be kind or even polite to others. In this case, I read about a
person that is willing to help other people, even if that means that he has to give something
important. For him is not a sacrifice, it is an action that he has to do.

In my opinion that is the right thing to do, I mean, we live in a very unhappy world, in which
everyone just care about themself. We only receive information of problems, negligence, and
many more stuff that revolves around the pessimism.

In this story, maybe Mr. Diaz is not going to change all the world, but he changed the boy's. He
showed him the other face of the coin, so the boy could perceive that as something tangible, that
he can also achieve.

2) Consider the actions of Diaz and Ms. Bates from the story, do you feel most adults behave this
way towards teens?

No, those are rare cases, that's why we are reading them, is not the common or the normal thing
to do.

Helping other people is a disinterested act, that means, the person doing it, is not going to receive
something in return. Most of the people want to be recognized for doing something "good",
making it a deal.

Is not about teens, children or adults, is about conscience, nothing exempts you from being in
need or in distress someday.

3) Do you know of any similar story of kindness?

Yes, I know some stories, some of them didn't end well, some other yes. You'll never know who
will stab you in the back, or will want to abuse the help that you are providing. It's always a risk,
which many don't want to take.

In my experience, I helped in Guayaquil building houses, I planted trees, I rescued stray animals, I
helped the elderly.

Everybody can be useful for the society doing small things, that at the end of the day help a lot. Is
all about attitude.
