This is the house (that) I want to live in. (optional use)

 ‘That’ combines two sentences but you don’t have to put that in this sentence .

The common word is ‘professor’ in both sentences.

He is a professor who teaches linguistics at Somerfield University.

 You can’t omit who in the sentence.
