The two realistic novels I chose are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Wuthering Heights by
Emily Bronte. Charlotte Bronte's novel is a realistic novel that focuses on how the main
character Jane Eyre it changes throughout the novel. Charlotte Bronte uses ways to symbolize,
foreshadow, characterize, and transforms her plot. The themes that emerge from the novel
describe the path of the main character. The unhappy childhood with the Reeds family,
describing how Jane was traumatized by the thought that her uncle's ghost haunted the red room
in which she was locked up when Mrs. Reeds punished her. Another theme illustrated by Bronte
in the novel is religion, because this theme represents the transformation of the character Jane
Eyre. Being a child left in the care of an aunt who did not represent a maternal figure from which
to learn good manners or what she has to believe. As an adult, Jane receives guidance from
Helen and Brocklehurst, considering her two role models for religion. Passion is also considered
a theme in the novel. The novel also illustrates a symbol that represent an important part of the
structure, but also of the transformation of the characters. The red-room a physical
imprisonment, but it also serves as a symbol of imprisonment in many ways. Jane is locked in
the room for hours, so the red room transforms into a literal prison. Red, the room’s dominating
color is symbol for passion, but for Jane is a enslavement to her passions. Charlotte Bronte uses
the technique of transforming the main character, who goes through certain stages of life to
finally find love. Childhood is the first step of transformation, representing a difficult memory
for it. She matured after spending 4 years at Lowood School and finally finding love with
Rochester. Charlotte Bronte creates a novel that illustrates the identification of female character.

The second novel chosen belongs to Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights. This novel is structured
on two levels. The first is the description of the maid Nelly who illustrates a story of the past
spent at the mansion called Wuthering Heights. From complicated characters to intense and
complex emotions, the novel is filled with all the elements of a tragic and macabre love story.
The novel is macabre because tragic deaths happen and Catherine’s ghost haunts Lockwood.
Despite it all, it is an unforgettable piece of literature; deeply engaging and equally interesting.
Wuthering Heights goes far beyond ordinary tragic romance. Wuthering Heights is about hate,
revenge, class conflict, complicated relationships and more complex things. The love between
Catherine and Heathcliff from a young age, as they grow up, Catherine grows attracted towards
things like social status and imagine life with Edgar Linton. Leaving Heathcliff behind, she
marries Edgar who can afford all luxuries of life. Heathcliff is forced to leave the scene unable to
bear the impact of Catherine leaving him for Edgar. We have the description of the Maid from
when the two characters were children and now the action related by Heatcliff. Emily Bronte
focuses a lot on describing the action both in the past with the help of Nelly the maid, as well as
with the story in the present in which the characters of the story are even the children of Heatcliff
and Catherine. Emily Bronte’s style is attractive but even attractive is her choice of settings and
characters.

The two novels are different in structure, but they are similar in the way they manage to illustrate
the essence of the novel, the transformation of the characters.
