I am going to teach you all the principle requirements about hypnosis, so you can go out into
the world and start helping your family and friends. Before I do please allow me to introduce
myself and my partner.

After breaking my back in 3 places when I was 14, I was told she would never walk again
or would always be in chronic pain. During this diagnosis period, I found out I was ½ deaf
in each ear and I was told by my school teachers I “wouldn’t amount to much”.

By age 30 I was 140 kilos and wouldn’t leave my living area due to severe anxiety and
depression. By 32 I was bankrupt and homeless.

In 2010 I began studying hypnosis. Through this process I lost over 30 kilos with ease,
created an anxiety and depression free future and signature hypnotic programs for
success.

My expertise is in helping people conquer anxiety, depression, IBS, menopause and pain
management using hypnosis, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Pattern), EFT Tapping (emotional freedom

What is hypnosis?

According to Wikipedia hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused


attention and reduced peripheral awareness and as enhanced capacity to respond to
suggestion.

What is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)?

Well that one is a bit more complex. Basically, NLP is the use of language of the mind to
achieve a specific outcome or desire. Let me break it down for you.

NEURO – The nervous system AKA the mind experiences 5 senses

➢ Visual (see)
➢ Auditory (listen)
➢ Kinaesthetic (touch)
➢ Olfactory (smell)
➢ Gustatory (taste)

Linguistic – Language and nonverbal communication systems are represented and coded into
a given meaning

➢ Pictures
➢ Sounds
➢ Feelings
➢ Tastes
➢ Smells
➢ Words (self-talk)

Programming – The ability to discover and utilize the programs that run in our neurological
systems to achieve our specific and desired outcome.

How do they differ?

There is great debate in the industries about hypnosis and NLP. Some of the debates have
even divided the industry (I admit I’m like the taco girl “why not have both).

It’s like comparing tomatoe and tomato sometimes. Same same yet completely different.

Whether used together or separately both modalities are extremely powerful when used
correctly.

The major difference is hypnosis requires the client to be in a form of trance or state where
NLP does not. Even this statement about trance can be debated in the industry as well (more
on trance in the later modules). I suggest keeping your mind open to both modalities and

choosing the right one to help your client’s success (that’s what it’s all about right?!?). Many
times, I will start with an NLP technique (whilst the client is having conversation or open to learning)
then move into hypnosis.

It’s very fascinating to learn the history of hypnosis and NLP.

The history and early research of hypnosis is as ancient as sorcery and magic. Incantations
and recitations of words, tone and physiology dates to an unknown source. The scientific
history began in the latter part of the 18th century with Franz Mesmer (1734 -1815), a
German physician who used hypnosis as treatment in his offices. Unfortunately, Mesmer had
a mistaken belief that hypnotism made use of an occult force (which he termed “animal
magnetism”) that flowed through the hypnotist into the subject. Mesmer was discredited for

this belief however the Mesmer method named “mesmerism” continues today. In the
middle of the 19th century an English physician James Braid (1795 – 1860) studied the
phenomenon and named the findings hypnotism and hypnosis, after the Greek god of sleep,
Hypnos (even though the client was not deemed as “asleep”) Braid was a pioneer of the era
establishing that when people became fixated on an item they could easily drop into trance.
In the early days the swinging watch was popular till he discovered that it was not necessary.
Meanwhile a British surgeon James Esdaile (1808 – 59) recognised how hypnosis could
hugely benefit pain management and performed hundreds of major operations using only
hypnotism as his anaesthetic. He tried to convince the medical board but was laughed. This
led to hypnosis being categorised as an “alternative” form of medicine (and where it remains
today).

Later in the 1880s Ambroise-Auguste Liébeault (1823 – 1904), a French country physician
used mesmeric techniques. He requested that Hippolyte Bernheim, a professor of medicine
at Strasbourg that had written that hypnosis involved no physical forces and no physiological
processes. It was a combination of psychologically mediated responses to suggestions.

The work over another Frenchman Emile Coue (1857 – 1926) is best known for his auto
suggestion “day by day in every way I am getting better and better” Coue believed that he
did not heal people himself rather he facilitated self-healing. This is where the statement
occurs “there is no such thing as hypnosis, only self-hypnosis” the most famous idea was the
power of imagination not will. He demonstrated that if you place a plank of wood on the
people usually walk across it without wobbling, However, tell the participant to close their
eyes and imagine the plank is suspended between two buildings 100 meters above the
ground and they will start to sway.

Coue also anticipated the placebo effect expressing that with the power of suggestion
patients could be given a drug that would cure them even though that drug had no effect on
the person at all (usually a sugar pill). The placebo effect has been studied and documented
throughout the centuries and proven to work in some cases.

At about the same time Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud (1856 – 1939) was impressed by
the therapeutic potential of hypnosis. Upon his return to Vienna he decided to use hypnosis
to help neurotics recall disturbing events that they had apparently forgotten. He then began
to develop a system called psychoanalysis. However, due to difficulty in hypnotizing some
patients Freud abandoned hypnosis in favour for his psychoanalysis
(generally psychoanalyst have come to view hypnosis as merely a supplement to add if required not a

necessity) This rejection lead to a massive delay in the development of hypnosis and its

practices.

The more recognised leading authority on clinical hypnosis was Milton H. Erickson (1901 –
1980) a highly effect psychotherapist. As a teenager he was struck with polio and paralysis.
During this time, he became fascinated by what people said and what they did were usually
opposite. He devised countless ways to heal people through metaphors, surprise, confusion
and humour. A master of “indirect” suggestion he was able to put a person into trance
without a mention of the word hypnosis.

Dave Elman comes into the scene from 1949 - 1962 deciding to teach doctors and dentists
hypnosis to help clients. Eventually leading him to teaching hundreds of people hypnosis.

Over the years different theories of what hypnosis is and how it might be understood has
been presented, but there is still no generally accepted explanatory theory for the
phenomenon.
As much as hypnosis is not medicine it works side by side with it and is becoming more and
more recognised with the generations.

1775 – Franz Mesmer uses magnets and suggestion to treat
patients

1840 – James Braid studied the phenomenon and named the


findings hypnotism and hypnosis, after the Greek god of sleep,
Hypnos

1846 – James Esdaile performs major surgery using hypnosis


rather than anaesthesia.

1880 – Joseph Breuer uses hypnosis for hysteria and discovers


repression, conversion and catharsis

1886 – Sigmund Freud Austrian Neurologist that defined


repression with Breuer. Together they published a book named
“Studies on Hysteria”

1893 - Emile Coue is best known for his auto suggestion “day by
day in every way I am getting better and better” Coue believed
that he did not heal people himself rather he facilitated self-
healing. Develops “law of reversed efforts”

1943 – Milton Erickson makes a massive contribution to
hypnotherapy and is considered the father figure of NLP

1949 – Dave Elman teaches hundreds of people Hypnosis

1950’s British and American Medical Associations accept hypnosis as a useful therapeutic
tool. Still more studies and work are needed but as time goes on more and more hypnosis is
being recognised.

The mind consists of three major sections:

➢ Conscious
➢ Preconscious aka subconscious (which is protected by the critical faculty)
➢ Unconscious

The conscious mind consists of everything inside of our awareness. This is the part of us that
thinks and talks in a rational way.

The conscious mind includes things such as: -

➢ Sensations
➢ Perceptions
➢ Memories
➢ Feelings
➢ Fantasies

All which exist in the current awareness. It is closely allied by the pre-conscious, which
includes all the things that we are not thinking about but can easily draw upon into the
conscious. EG: - habits, education, desires, needs.

Things that the conscious mind wants hidden from awareness are stored in the unconscious
mind. While we are aware of these feelings, thoughts, urges and emotions the unconscious
mind can still influence our behaviours. Things in the unconscious are only available to the
conscious via the representation of imagery EG: dreams, awareness etc. The conscious mind
is just the tip of the iceberg. The iceberg is 10% conscious mind and 90% preconscious and
unconscious mind.

subconscious mind is:

Conscious vs Preconscious. What’s the Difference?


The conscious mind is all the things we are currently aware of. The preconscious (aka
subconscious) is things that we are presently unaware of but can pull into consciousness when

needed. EG: when asked “what did you have for breakfast” it can take a few moments to
recall. These are known as “ordinary” memories where you can pull the information as you
need it.

Information in the preconscious mind can surface a lot in dreams and can “slip of the
tongue” during heightened emotions. The preconscious can influence our behaviours
without conscious thought.

The Unconscious Mind:

What lies beneath the surface of awareness?


The responsibilities of the unconscious mind are summed up in 6 simple points.

1. Preserve the body


2. Is a servant and likes to follow orders!
3. Is highly moral
4. Stores memories
5. Is symbolic
6. Does not process negatives

The Critical Faculty:


Suggestion
The critical faculty is the security
guard between the conscious and
the preconscious/unconscious.

You must bypass the critical


faculty in order to access the
other levels of consciousness.
Critical
HOWEVER, tread in the wrong Faculty
direction and the CF will kick in
and throw you out.

Hypnosis and NLP techniques allow you to bypass the CF with ease. It takes patience,
time and a little practice.

The structure of reality has 3 major phases.

1. Reception: Through our 5 senses we receive information.


➢ Visual (see)
➢ Auditory (hear)
➢ Kinaesthetic (feel)
➢ Olfactory (smell)
➢ Gustatory (taste)

Once the 5 senses have received the information it is then filtered into:

2. Perception: The perceived information is then


➢ Deleted – Only information that is relevant is kept
➢ Distorted – Information is moulded with our own reaction systems (cause and
effect … more on this later)

➢ Generalised – Based on our knowledge we can interpret what we wish to accept


or not accept

This happens so quickly that we are not even aware of what is happening sometimes. Which
moves us into section 3.

Once this is all done, we create a focus which is
our physiology and mood. This then leads to a
behaviour.

The structure of reality creates our own version of


the world.

This is known as a “Model of the world”

Everybody’s model of the world is unique to them.


Believe what works for you and you will receive
the relevant outcome.

“When people are like each other, they like each other”
Getting into rapport with your client comes down to three major factors

1. Words (this makes up for 7% of your communication)


2. Tonality (this makes up 38% of your communication)
3. Physiology (this makes up 55% of your communication)

Mirroring and matching your client create rapport.

Your words:
➢ Using the same words as your client tells them you understand them
➢ Take notice of the content they are expressing
➢ Listen to their experiences

Your tonality:
➢ What volume is your client talking at? Copy it
➢ What speed is your client talking at? Copy it
➢ What quality is your client talking at? Copy it
➢ What tone is your client talking at? Copy it

Your physiology:
➢ Checkout your posture is it of someone that is confident or tired?
➢ Ensure your gestures are correct for the conversation
➢ Breathe at the same pace as your client or slower. Encourage relaxation
➢ What are you expressing about yourself? Tiredness, excitement, relaxed?
➢ Match the energy levels of your client.

Prestige:
Is spoken by the environment around you. Creating prestige is easy with some simple tips:

➢ Have your certifications displayed well?


➢ What is your dress code like? Clean casual, professional, business?
➢ The area clean and welcoming?
➢ Display registrations and logos.
➢ Take feedback rather than criticism.

Rapport and prestige will allow you to attract the clients you are wishing to work with.

Be what you want to attract.

There are 5 main levels of trance.

1. Gamma 40hz+ - This is when we are stressed and running very quickly. The mind is
trying to process the amount of information coming in and out. Causing an overload
or build-up of emotions.
2. Beta (very light trance) 15hz – 40hz … This is our usual function every day.
3. Alpha (light trance) 8hz – 14hz … Daydreaming, pondering, remembering lightly. People
drop in and out of beta and alpha many times a day.
4. Theta (medium trance) 5hz – 8hz … Getting lost deep in thought, much less awareness to
the outside world and what is happening around us. This is the hypnotic and nlp wave
of suggestion. Partial amnesia occurs in the body (more on amnesia later)
5. Delta (deep trance) 0hz – 5hz … Resembles sleep. In this very deep state somnambulism
occurs (more on this later) and we are in a REM, kundalini and/or coma state. This is the
state where healing in the body occurs (physically and mentally)

In general, the less brainwave frequency (hz) there is the less conscious awareness people
have. When it comes to hypnosis and nlp its about transitioning the client to lower states
below beta, so they are more receptive to take on the suggestions you and the client have
set up. (you will learn how to set up suggestions later).

It is also believed that we can create change and healing via vibration. The vibration
frequencies are known as solfeggio frequencies. They are linked in with emotions, chakras
and energy fields.

There are 6 main solfeggio frequencies:

1. 396hz – Guilt and fear (root)


2. 417hz – Grief and hurt
(pelvis/sacral) heal past

3. 528hz – Anger (solar plexus) letting


go
4. 639hz – Connection and
relationships (heart)
5. 741hz – Fear and Pain (throat)
communication and expression
6. 852hz – Intuition (crown and 3rd
eye) spirituality

These electromagnetic frequencies are


believed to be part of all matter. Albert
Einstein said “concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is
energy, whose vibrations has been so lowered at to be perceptible to the senses. There is no
matter.”

Solfeggio frequencies have been used in meditation, hypnosis, nlp and healing for many
years. It’s as simple as “listening to the music”.

Pre-talk is NLP. This is where the magic can truly happen.

Hypnotising someone in a waking state will put you a cut above the rest. Pre-talk is known as
conversational or waking hypnosis. The client just needs to be open to learning and the
suggestion being made will be accepted if the correct evidence is available.

Pre-talk is when you are setting up people listening for an outcome. Pre-talks are used in
many different ways.

➢ A coach will do a pre-talk before a game (encouraging the players and lifting spirits)
➢ A person standing at a podium will use a pre-talk with evidence to sway people’s
decisions and thoughts
➢ A hypnotist will give a pre-talk about what hypnosis is and isn’t

All these examples and more are done with great tenacity and rock-solid evidence, so the
client is left with “no further questions”. When there are no further questions the listener
will be convinced, open to learning and have taken on the suggestion that the pre-talk was
based upon.

Pre-talks can go for any length of time. Some are simple one-line quotes and others are full
on speeches and demonstrations.

Pre-talks contain:

➢ Evidence and undeniable truth (statistics, articles, videos, displays etc)


➢ Great tonality and passion
➢ Hierarchy of names of others that
support the subject EG: and I quote
from the great Tony Robbins “Most
people fail in life because they major
at minor things” (get some big guns
onboard and your pre-talk will soar!)

➢ Knowledge: know your pre-talk as if


you go off topic or forget the details the critical faculty will kick in and people will
disengage from the conversation. Loosing rapport.
➢ Has clear instructions for the hypnosis client.

A great pre-talk can open you clients mind to potential. Making the hypnosis session even
more powerful. Engaging the client to think of options and upgrade their minds.

One of the greatest tools you have when your client is in hypnotic trance is your voice.

Learning to use your voice to enhance your sessions is crucial. If you come into a session and
just start reading a script with the same boring tone at the same speed your client will
disengage from you or just get bored and fall asleep. Sure, a good sleep is great for your
client however the core issue won’t be dealt with. Leading to your client to say the hypnosis
“wore off” or “didn’t work”.

When doing you sessions ensure that you are in the correct physical and mental state for
your client. Your client isn’t coming to you to be bought down or feel tired. They are coming
to you to be uplifted and help with solutions.

Your tone is very powerful when the client is in hypnotic trance.

➢ During the pre-talk with your client use a tone that’s a little more excited then your
clients (if you are too excited, they will be resilient, if you are under excited, they won’t take notice
and learn)

➢ Before going into the hypnosis session use empathy and compassion in your tone.
Reassuring your client that they are safe. Asking for permission from the client to
touch them on the hand etc (always get permission first).

➢ At the beginning of your inductions speak at a normal pace, once half way through
slow you pace down to half then at the count down slow it down half again.

➢ When asking hypnotic questioning during the script use a questioning and curious
tone!

➢ When making a statement about the questioning use an uplifting and strong tone.

➢ During times of healing with specific emotions use the same tone in your voice that
will reflect the emotion EG: your bringing back an angry memory use an angry tone
(not a loud one just an angry one).

➢ Tone can also come in sounds. Place sounds and motions into your script: EG: as you
wipe the dust from the book (insert cough cough and struggle to talk from the dust).

➢ Get into character. I change my voice completely when talking to the client from the
view of the inner child (make the tone childlike).

➢ When placing a post hypnotic suggestion or direct suggestion speak the words at
double your normal speaking speed, in the one tone, clearly and precisely.

All these will be in brackets in the scripts below to help


you till you get a grasp of it. You are taking your client on
a journey. Submerge them into it with your tone and
energy. Your client may have their eyes closed but they
can still feel your energy.

Physiology communicates 55% of language. We pick up on a person’s mood based on
physiology before they speak.

Your ability to gauge a person’s body language can help you connect to your client on a
deeper level.

“If I remove the sound of a person’s voice and base them on their actions, I will always know
the truth”.

Body Language can come in many different forms:

➢ Face language
➢ Eyes
➢ Lips
➢ Posture
➢ Hair
➢ Walking, sitting, standing style
➢ Arms, legs (crossed/uncrossed)
➢ Personal Space
➢ Gestures
➢ Energy

You have been raised with a natural ability to gauge peoples body languages. However, as
time goes on, we forget to tap into this wonderful ability and use it to empower us.

When you are working with a client you must ensure that your body language is good as
your client will pick up on it and it can affect the service you are providing.

Induction of hypnosis can be termed as an extension of susceptibility techniques. The level
of “trance” and suggestibility have been greatly debated over the years with proof showing
that as long as the client is open the agreed suggestion will gain results.

Here is a short list of the most common hypnotic inductions.

➢ Rapid
➢ Pace and Lead
➢ Physical Posture
➢ Sensory Overload
➢ Stealth
➢ Visualisation
➢ Eye Fixation
➢ Mirroring

I’ll take you through each one. Depending on the type of client as to the type of induction
you choose to use. In this basic training you will learn how to do the visualisation (aka
relaxation) induction. In the advanced course called Modern Mentoring you can learn the

others (all the scripts and training is included).

Rapid:

Rapid Inductions is one of those methods which relies on distracting the subject either by
pulling them forward or sideways telling them to “sleep” … they are great for if your client
breaks themselves out of trance. It’s very fast and turns the elicit response on to “freeze”.

The most famous rapid induction was Eriksson handshake technique. As the name suggests it
consists of a hypnotist holding out their hand, when the subject takes the hand expecting to
shake it in the normal way the hypnotist surprises the subject by instead pulling the hand to
one side.

Not every subject responds to this, but when they do it is instant. Rapid inductions are great
for people that are highly susceptible or have previously had hypnosis before. They trust the
process and enjoy it.

Pace and Lead:

Is when you are telling the client they are feeling tired very quickly. As a direct result the
client will start to relax just by being in your presence. The subject will go into the trance you
are speaking about. Because they believe that when the hypnotist tells them that they will
go into trance and relax they will. They will go deeper and deeper, upon your instruction.

Physical Posture:

This is done by placing the client into a position they find relaxing. Its very straight forward.
However, some controversy is placed towards this as you don’t want your client to go to
sleep so if you lay them down, they may just do this.

Sensory Overload:

Many inductions involve trying to quieten the conscious mind. The sensory overload does
the exact opposite. The mind is overloaded by creating circumstances whereby the client will
increase the sensation (this is also known as a blowout). Once the sensation is increased to a level
of overload the conscious mind will “collapse” on itself.

Stealth:

It’s a simple technique with a fancy name. The stealth technique bores the client. We have
all experienced this whether it was in a class or listening to someone drone on. We become
so bored we begin to switch off and day dream.

Visualisation:

Guided visualisation inductions are where you take your client on a journey of relaxation.
These can be long or short. Using your tonality to speed to relax the client.

Eye Fixation:

In this technique the hypnotist asks the client to gaze at an object or a specific place. It’s
usually done whilst the client is leaning back and looking up. The eyes will gradually become
tired and close.

Mirroring:

If you have ever played a sport or watched a game people will copy each other’s actions. A
hypnotist can create actions and movements where the client will begin to follow. Inducing a
hypnotic state.

With time and practice you can learn all these inductions and do them without scripts.
There is no magic bullet set of words that will automatically play someone into trance. The
are many “so called” techniques but many are just variants of the basics. The real secret is to
keep it simple and find what works with the client’s resources.

What are convincers?

A convincer is something that helps convince the client about the power of the mind (this is
also done with suggestibility tests … more on this later).

What is a deepener?

A deepener helps the client relax deeper into trance.

There are different ways a deepener can be done.

➢ Numerical hypnotic deepeners (the most common) – This deepener relies on counting up
or down. The counting defines a period of time when the client will relax and with
each number that is counted the hypnotist makes suggestions such as “deeper and
deeper” “relax”.
➢ Natural Phenomena Hypnotic Deepeners – These are ones that use an ideomotor
response where the finger will twitch, arm will levitate or go into catalepsy (more on
these below for you to learn and do)

➢ Visual Engagement Hypnotic Deepener – This is where the client focus’s on internal
imagery and go on a journey away from their current environment.
➢ Dissociative Hypnotic Deepeners – these deepeners ask the client to separate
themselves from the current time/space. Eg: asking your client to float up and out of
there body. This is a great technique for pain elimination and quantum
unconsciousness.

Many therapists will combine all the deepeners within the session.

Let’s learn some convincers and deepeners.

Convincers are done before the deep trance hypnosis session starts (and a small eye fixation one
is done during the hypnosis session after the deepener. You will recognise this when you get to the bigger
scripts later). A full structure of a session is available in this training. For now, just focus on
learning this part and it will all come together towards the end.

Balloon convincer
Notes:
➢ Ask client permission to touch the wrist
➢ This can be done whilst sitting or
standing
➢ For a greater effect ask client to close
their eyes.
➢ Act out the part… use your tonality to
engage the client.
➢ Sections in green are instructions for you … do not read it to the client!

SCRIPT:
Go ahead now and raise you right arm up in front of you till it is parallel with the floor …
notice how perfectly relaxed your arm and hands and fingers feel … notice a pleasant and
powerful feeling of relaxation flowing from your shoulder … down into your arm and all
the way down into your hands and fingers … I have a big bunch of helium balloons just for
you … they are fun and wonderful … I’m going to tie the string from the balloons around
your wrist (softly touch wrist) now! … (say the following slowly and patiently with a “floaty” voice) as
the balloons floats up higher and higher … you feel your arm becoming lighter and lighter
… your arm lifts up higher and higher … the balloons are causing your arm to lift higher
and higher … that’s right! … lighter and lighter … so incredibly light … floating higher and
higher now till your arm points all the way up into the beautiful sky.

Crank fingers
This convincer you may have done at school or as a child. This
convincer is done with eyes open. It’s great fun and very
powerful.

Start by asking clients to place hands out in front of them like in


the picture.
Tell client to press the two-pointed fingers together as hard as
they can when you finish the script you will ask them to pull the
two fingers apart and they will find that the two fingers will
automatically come back together like magnets.

SCRIPT:
Now press these two fingers together … now press them together harder … harder …
firmer now … harder … that’s right! … harder now … now relax the two fingers and they
will start to come together again like magnets … pull the fingers apart again and you will
find they will come back together like magnets … very good!

Magnetic Hand
This convincer uses the imagination of the client, to imagine the hand is a powerful magnet
and the other is metal. This version is based on E. Arthur Winklers convincer. You must
ensure that your client is open to using their imagination and suggestions. A highly
resistant or analytical client will not apply to this convincer (the lemon guided visualiser is
recommended for these clients).

SCRIPT:
Place your two hands in front of your chest and so
your palms are facing inwards.
Keep them apart (usually about10cm or 6 inches).
Now imagine that your right hand is a powerful
magnet and your left hand is metal.
Focus your attention on your right hand and feel the
magnetic power of that hand growing stronger and stronger, and as the powerful magnet
that is your right hand grows in strength, your left hand moves ever closer. In a moment, I'm
going to count from one to five, and with each number I count, your right hand doubles its
magnetic power, as your left hand draws closer and closer. And by the count of five, your
hands will be stuck tightly together.
One … Your magnetic right hand doubles its magnetic power as your metallic left hand draws
closer.
Two … Feel the powerful magnetic attraction.
Three ... Notice that the magnetic power of your right hand is irresistible.
Four ... Almost there. On the next count your hands will be stuck tightly together.
Five ... Hands stuck firmly together as if they are one.
Your hands are now stuck so tightly together, it's as if they had been glued together with the
most powerful glue in the world. And even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be able to pull
them apart. Go ahead and try to pull them apart, and notice that your hands remain tightly
stuck together.
Now, on the count of three, you will relax your hands completely and they will come apart
easily and you can relax yourself as deeply as you possibly can. One. Two. Three (click your
fingers).

Eye convincer

The eye convincer is done during the deep


trance hypnosis after the deepener (there
are instructions for this in the bigger scripts later)

SCRIPT:

Sit back relax and close your eyes.


I’m going to count from one to three. With each number I count, your eyelids will
become heavier and heavier. At the count of three you’ll find you can’t open your eyes,
even if you try. You will find with a little bit of delight, you simply cannot open them. One
… two … three … that’s fine, you don’t even try anymore. They’re just to relaxed and
heavy. Your eyelids are returning to normal now.”

Lemon Convincer (guided visualization)

There are some people that are convinced they can’t visualise.
This convincer will assist your client they can open their minds at
any time.

SCRIPT:
Gently close your eyes and as you do take a nice deep breath in …
imagine or pretend that you’re at home in your kitchen … look around the room and pay
attention to the sounds the sights and the light ... listen for the hummm of the refrigerator
… walk over to the refrigerator and as you do pay attention to your footsteps as you walk
across the floor … you may or you may not hear your steps on the floor ... slowly open the
door to the refrigerator … feel the cool air as it spills out onto your face ... hear that suction
as the seal from the fridge door releases … now today whether you normally have one or
not … today there’s a lemon in your refrigerator … look at the lemon … pay attention to its
colour … as you reach in and take the lemon … notice the colour and the texture of its skin,
the cool temperature, the size and the shape ... now take the lemon over to a place where
you would normally cut up fruits or vegetables … take out a knife … slowly and safely slice
the lemon open … you may have noticed the juice as it oozes out of the lemon onto your
fingertips … the smell of the citrus tickles your nasal passage … reach down and take a
piece of the lemon … smell the fragrance … now open your mouth and take a big bite into
that lemon ... feel and taste the juice as it squirts in your mouth and on your tongue …
experience the increased salivation and notice the tart and tangy feeling … Open your
eyes. What did you notice? (allow client to answer) What did you experience? (allow client to
answer) What senses were stimulated? (allow client to answer)

Your increased salivation was a biochemical, physiological response from a thought and
every thought that you have creates some type of biochemical, physiological response in
some part of your body. What the mind possesses the body expresses.

Deepeners:

There are many different styles to deepening. This is


just a few to get you started. As you move along
through your hypnosis and nlp career you will
accumulate more and settle on your favourites.
Deepeners are spoken to your client at HALF the
normal talking speed. Be patient.

Relaxing your tongue


This deepener creates a focus on relaxing the tongue then later the client is asked to relax
different parts of the body at the same time they relax the tongue.

SCRIPT:
(remember deepeners are done after the inductions. More on this later)

And continue to breathe deeply and rhythmically … for the next little while, with each inward
breath … focus your awareness on your tongue … with each outward breath, relax your
tongue completely … focusing your awareness on your tongue … relaxing your tongue helps
you to become more focused … helps to bring your powerful subconscious mind to the
forefront ... you can notice, that as your tongue becomes more deeply relaxed with each
passing breath, your whole body relaxes ... on your next outbreath, as you relax your tongue,
relax the muscles in your neck and shoulders ... feel a deep, state of relaxation penetrate the
muscles of your neck and shoulders ... relaxing your tongue not only helps you, to relax
deeply, but also helps you clear your mind so you can become more focused on what's really
important, which is creating what you choose to create for yourself ... by quieting your mind,
all levels of your mind become highly focused and integrated, which allows you to create
more effectively and more powerfully ... on your next outbreath, as you relax your tongue,
relax the muscles in your arms … allow that relaxation to spread all the way down to your
hands and fingers ... relaxing down further now … as the relaxation spreads down your chest
… to your torso … down and down to your pelvis … deeper and deeper … down and down
your thighs … your knees … going down your shins and to your feet … going down and down
into each and every toe … you can stop relaxing your tongue now and focus on going inside

Fractional Relaxation and Deep Breathing

This induction blends two techniques one is


fractional relaxation and deep breathing.
Fractional relaxation is a technique that
involves relaxing different parts of the body
one area at a time.

SCRIPT:

Go ahead, right now, and take a deep, calm, relaxing breath in … and as you exhale allow
your shoulders to drop and sink into the chair … take yourself to a new and deeper level of
relaxation ... (pause 7 seconds) … breathing deeply is one of the easiest and most effective ways
to relax... So, begin now to slow down your breathing … and breathe deeply, measuring your
breaths so that your inhale and exhale are of the same length … for the next several breaths,
focus your mind on your breathing ... (pause 10 seconds) … continue to breathe deeply and
slowly … allow your body to relax, and let any tension stored in the muscles of your body
melt away like snow on a warm day ... melting quickly and easily ... notice your jaw area
become loose and limp and completely relaxed ... relax your mouth ... and your tongue ...
and your teeth ... notice how any remaining tightness left in the muscles of your body is
melting rapidly away ... loosening up those muscles from your head all the way down to your
toes ... notice your neck and shoulders relaxing so quickly, so easily ... your shoulders and
arms ... your chest and upper back ... your abdominal area ... your hips and pelvis ... your
thighs ... your knees ... your calf muscles … and down to your feet and toes ... and on your
next breath out, relax your whole being ... (pause 6 seconds) … it feels so wonderful, to relax
your mind and body …

Counting Your Breaths
This is a highly effective deepener for very
stressed, uptight clients that works well with
clients that don’t like to “let go” and relax.

SCRIPT:
So now, to get started, make sure you are
comfortable and relaxed. In a moment, I'm going to ask you to begin a simple, deep
breathing practice, during which you will breathe slowly and evenly. Five seconds on the
inhale, counting the seconds as you draw your breathe in, then hold for a moment, and
exhale for five seconds, again, counting your breaths as you make sure to empty out all the
air from your lungs. Then pause for a moment and repeat.
And as you breathe, follow the journey of your breath and notice how your stomach gently
rises and falls with each breath.
By focusing on your breathing, and following the journey of your breath, you’re thinking
mind begins to slow down, and the part of your mind that is pure, conscious awareness
begins to come forward and become highly focused.
So, go ahead now and begin to breathe deeply and count your breaths. Five seconds on the
inhale, then pause, and five seconds on the exhale, and pause again, then repeat. And
remember on each exhale to make sure to empty out all the air from your lungs.
And as you breathe, allow yourself to relax more deeply with each breath.
Over the course of time, as you practice this meditation, you can always choose to take
longer, deeper breaths. Just make sure that your breaths are always easy and comfortable,
and that you keep your inbreaths and outbreaths the same length. (pause 15 seconds)
There are many wonderful benefits associated with breathing deeply. Deep breathing helps
you to calm down and relax--which helps to reduce stress.
Deep breathing also increases the levels of oxygen in your blood which has an incredibly
calming effect on your mind. Soothing the mind and bringing with it an amazing feeling of
serenity. A calm, quiet feeling that becomes more profound with every breath you take.
Notice on your next exhale, just how relaxed the muscles of your neck and shoulders are.
Notice how smooth and loose those muscles feel. (pause 8 seconds)
And you might also notice, just how deeply relaxed the muscles of your arms and legs are.
Notice, how they're becoming more deeply relaxed by the moment. So deeply relaxed, so
heavy, that even if you wanted to, you'd have difficulty moving them.

It's amazing how quickly and easily you can relax your mind and body, simply by breathing in
a deep, rhythmic pattern.
On your next outbreath, send a powerful wave of relaxation through your body from your
head all the way down to your toes, relaxing all nerves, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and
penetrating and relaxing every bone in your body.
You can stop counting your breaths now. And relax your mind even further.

Candle Flame
This deepener uses eye fixation and visualization to help
focus the mind and simulate going to sleep. Ask client to
close their eyes and proceed.

SCRIPT:

Picture the flame of a candle right in the centre of the space between your eyebrows ...
watch closely as the flame dances and flickers ... you just may notice that the muscles of
your eyelids are trembling ever so slightly ... just make sure to keep your eyelids closed as
you watch the dancing flame (pause 7 seconds) … go ahead and lower your eyes and allow
yourself to relax deeply (pause 10 seconds) … Now, once more, raise your eyes upwards and
watch the dancing flame … this time notice the various colours of the flame (pause 7 seconds)
… lower your eyes and relax as deeply as you possibly can …

Meadow Staircase
This is a countdown deepener the most commonly used by
therapists.

SCRIPT:

Imagine yourself at the top of a staircase ... this staircase


leads to a beautiful forest/meadow ... a natural place of great
tranquillity and peace … you're so ready now to experience
peace and calmness within yourself and within your life ...
there are only ten steps between you and the feeling of peace
you want to experience ... in a moment I'm going to count from ten down to one, and with
each count, you'll take a step down … drifting deeper and deeper … relaxing more with each
step ..
Ten ... Going down and feeling so relaxed.
Nine ... Feeling so relaxed and calm
Eight ... Going deeper and deeper down.
Seven ... More relaxed with each step.
Six ... Getting closer now.
Five ... More and more relaxed.
Four ... Feel all your problems just melting away.
Three ... Deeper down.
Two ... So incredibly calm and relaxed.
And one ... All the way down now.

Suggestibility tests are a crucial part of the hypnosis process. Without them the client could
just be listening in on the process and being polite. They will just sit there and go along with
it as they don’t wish to hurt your feelings or embarrass you. Then later they will go on to say
they “couldn’t be hypnotised”, “it didn’t work” or “it wore off”.

Stage hypnotists rely on suggestibility tests to ensure they have the most compliant client to
perform.

What is the difference between a convincer and a suggestibility test?

A convincer is a decision the client makes that convinces them they are in control (I can’t be
bothered opening my eyes, I am raising my hand with the balloon etc) where a suggestibility test a

client receives an answer from the subconscious that they can’t explain or didn’t know was
possible. This natural phenomenon can really wow your client about the power of their
mind.
There are many suggestibility tests available. I will show you the three most commonly used.
More advanced techniques are available in the modern mentoring)

1. Arm Drop
2. Sway Test
3. Finger Spread

Arm Drop:

➢ This suggestibility test is done after the


deepener.
➢ Is the simplest suggestibility test.
➢ Is great for using with rapid inductions and stage
hypnosis.
➢ This is just one variant of the arm drop.

SCRIPT:

OK, I'm going to reach over and pick up your left arm (pick up arm until arm is extended as if
sleepwalking) … You will find that this arm will stay up all by itself for a little while (keep

supporting arm, lessen the support until arm stays up by itself) ... Good … Now, I'd like you to, to feel

that arm becoming heavier and heavier so heavy that on the count of three it will drop down
and you will feel twice relaxed now … counting now 1 … 2 … 3 (arm will drop if client is open to
suggestibility, if it doesn’t drop or drops with resistance stop there the client isn’t open to suggestion)

Sway Test

➢ This is my favourite suggestibility test


for people in pain
➢ It’s simple! Be patient!
➢ Done with eyes open before deep
trance
➢ If the client sways forward it’s a “yes”
if the client sways backwards it’s a “no”

SCRIPT:

Say to client “you will be safe at all times with this test. We are going to ask you unconscious
mind if it is willing to let go of this problem today. It will answer yes by allowing you to sway”

Ask client to stand up with their hands at their sides (you stand beside them).

Ask client to have their feet firmly on the floor.

Ask client to close their eyes and keep the head facing forward.

Say “now with your unconscious mind ask yourself (insert clients name) are you willing to let
go of this problem today?”

The client will sway slightly, and the client will then catch themselves, so they don’t fall.
Many times, they will open their eyes and you say “It’s wonderful that you can trust your
body to save you from harm and your unconscious is willing to let go of this problem”

Now repeat the blue section 2 more times.

If the client is doing a sway test and the answer is no deeper hypnosis is required (this is
called parts therapy and is available in the modern mentoring)

Finger Spread

➢ Done with eyes open before deep trance


➢ Can be done sitting or standing
➢ Don’t let clients ask questions during tests
➢ The faster and further the fingers spread the
more suggestible they are (fast means you can do
rapid inductions, slow means relaxation induction)

SCRIPT:

1. Ask client to sit upright in chair with hand on lap.


2. Lift up the client’s arm and hand. Place the palm in front of the face about 10 cm
away, fingers straight and above eye level.
3. Firmly hold the elbow and hand, tap the middle finger (3 to 4) times and say: “I want
you to stare at your middle finger and when I let go of your hand your fingers will
begin to separate.”
4. (Let go of elbow and hand) Say: “Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and
farther apart.” Repeat blue section words out loud (3) times.
5. Put the hand down and repeat for other hand.
6. Once done put the hand back on clients lap and tell them they did well.

Go and grab a friend and practice some suggestibility tests.

Suggestibility tests can be done at various times. Some are done before deep trance
hypnosis and others are done whilst your client is in a wakeful state. Either way you are
assessing how open your client is to suggestion.

If a client is resistant to the suggestion test this could mean they either don’t trust the
process or are not ready to let, go of the problem (this can be assisted with parts therapy). A client
that responds easily to suggestibility tests will easily achieve change and will be a joy to work
with.
You can do the same test over and over on a client to help them learn to trust the process
and achieve the change they are looking for.

Scaling evidence procedure is done before you start the deep trance hypnosis session and
then again at the end of it (there are prompts in the scripts when learning this).
Why do we scale the problem?

Scaling the problem allows the client something to achieve. Whilst the problem is inside their
thoughts, they cannot tackle it. Once you scale the problem, they then have something they
can tackle and reduce.

How do you scale the problem?

Simple and easy. Say to your client:

SCRIPT:

One a scale of 1 – 10 with 1 being no problem at all it doesn’t exist and 10 being this is the
worse problem in the world I’ve had enough. Where are you sitting?

Allow client to answer you want a full number not an in-between number.

EG: they are sitting at a level 9 not an 8-9 or a 9.5

Once you have the number write it down as you need it when you rescale at the end of the
deep trance hypnosis session.

Once you get to the end of the deep trance hypnosis session rescale. This gives the client
evidence that the problem is reduced or gone.
Rescale script (make sure you do not mention the specific problem):

SCRIPT:

So, before you said the problem was a (insert number). On a scale of 1 – 10 with 1 being there
is no problem where are you sitting now?

Allow client to answer (notice the wording states only the lower end of the scaling? This is done as people
tend to always want to choose the negative if you give them the option. Don’t give you client the option to
choose the negative and they won’t. This encourages them to start retraining themselves towards more
healthy and positive thoughts).

Scaling doesn’t need to be done every time. But it is highly recommended for front of mind
problems like weight, pain, smoking, habits, fears and phobias.

What is a metaphor?

Generally speaking, it’s a story or an idea that stems from another situation.

We speak and dream in metaphors even if we don’t know we are doing it.

Metaphors seem different to the conscious but can speak directly to the unconscious.
Metaphors can bypass the conscious bringing the unconscious to awareness. They are also
referred to as “the language of the unconscious” where a message can be displayed,
deciphered and received on many levels.

An example of a metaphor is:

“you have a heart of gold” … reality is that the person doesn’t have a heart that is made from
gold, but the metaphor tells us it is a good thing.

There are 6 types of metaphors:

1. Absolute Metaphors – The metaphors compare two things that have no obvious
connection, but the listener understands its meaning EG: “she is playing with fire with
her relationship at the moment”

2. Dead Metaphors – a one-line statement that loses its power if over used EG: “you light
up my life”

3. Extended Metaphors – A lengthy metaphor with great meaning. EG: “All the world’s a
stage, and all the men and women merely plyers; They have their exits and their
entrances; And one man in him time plays many parts” … William Shakespeare

4. Implied Metaphors – These are a therapist’s best tool!!! Where 2 things are compared
without using a specific term, yet the message is understood. EG: “Watching this game
is like watching grass grow”

5. Mixed Metaphors – These metaphors seem like mumbo jumbo but have very deep
meaning. They can be powerfully moving. EG: “In the heat of the moment she turned
to ice and danced to the beat of her own drum”

6. Root Metaphors – These metaphors are everyday language and assumptions. We use
them so often we barely recognise the true meaning anymore EG: “Life is a journey,
not a destination”.

Metaphors are used greatly in hypnotic language. A well-constructed metaphor can bypass
the conscious to the unconscious and address a problem without ever bringing the problem
to the surface. Problems can be solved without speaking about them or bringing back the
negative memories around the situation (this is great for victims of abuse and trauma).

Metaphors should never be picked apart. That’s like someone explaining a joke and the joke
is no longer effective. Metaphors can be done in conversation (this is nlp style) or in trance.

Ensure that a metaphor fits the interests of the client you are assisting.

When using a metaphor in conversation you should always make it seem like its just part of
the conversation. Always start with generic conversation and then at the right moment use
the metaphor to assist with solving the client’s problem. You will see the client’s eyes glaze
over slightly or they will become more aware as the unconscious engages in the metaphor
and listens to the message.

Metaphors don’t necessarily have a point or a punchline. Some metaphors in hypnotic


language as openers for deeper meaning.

Example:

The therapist may begin talking about the client standing in the kitchen doing the dishes. As
they plunge their hands into the water it is warm and bubbly like being in a spa. A spa that
relaxes all the muscles in the body causing relaxation. The bubbles massage away at all the
muscles in the body. Massaging and relaxing in such a beautiful spa styled resort with
relaxation music and beautiful scents. Nothing to do but relax.

The start of the example talks about standing in the kitchen doing the dishes and then takes
the client to a spa which then turns into a massage at a spa resort.

The conscious mind thinks of the dishes till the unconscious mind listens in about the bubbly
spa and then takes on the message to relax.

To use a metaphor, you must:

➢ Construct an idea or story that is different to the problem but matches the pattern.
EG: “when you place fuel into the petrol tank of a car there’s only so much it can take
before it spills out and damages the body. You know when to the tank is full and can
stop.” (this is a great metaphor for weight loss).
➢ Match the metaphor with the interests of the person.
➢ Make sure the metaphor provides a solution to the problem and hope.
➢ Metaphors can be used in deep trance or conversation.
➢ If a metaphor doesn’t “take” nothing in lost and the listener just heard an interesting
story.

Later on, you will learn how a hypnosis script is setup and will understand where the
metaphor comes into the healing state.

Breaking state and future pacing are done at the end of the hypnosis script. This is done to
solidify in hypnotic amnesia (you can learn this advanced technique in the modern mentoring). Future
is pacing is also done with the client so that they can now verify that the issue is gone and
will not be a problem in the future.

Why and how do you break state?

After you have counted your client out of hypnosis they will be in a very relaxed and
vulnerable state. The unconscious mind is open and very receptive at this stage. It needs to
be closed off so the post hypnotic suggestions you have been placing will solidify into the
unconscious (you will learn post hypnotic suggestion in the next module).

First you count your client out of hypnosis. Once they have their eyes open ask them a
question that is completely off topic to bring the conscious back into full action.

Ask a question like (you only need to ask 1):

➢ What’s for dinner tonight?


➢ Did you have breakfast this morning?
➢ What is the perfume your wearing its lovely?
➢ What’s the colour of your car?
➢ What’s your eldest child’s name again?

These questions are simple for your client to answer but you will find they have to stop for a
few moments and access the information. After those few moments have occurred the
conscious mind will kick in (watch the physiology of your client it’s amazing!) solidifying the post
hypnotic suggestions into the unconscious.

Between breaking state and future pacing, you can rescale the problem (this amplifies the future pacing to a
positive mindset)

Now future pace.

Why future pace?

Like I said before future pacing is done as evidence or verification that the problem won’t be
available in the future.

After you break state future pace your client with the following wording.

SCRIPT (client has eyes open):

Imagine picture pretend your out into the future 1 week from now when this unwarranted
problem who usually occur. How is it different?

Allow client to answer (mirror the clients body language, tone and achievement)

Post hypnotic suggestion (PHS) is a basic tool for a hypnotist.

PHS are possibly one of the most misunderstood aspects of hypnosis (and are the most powerful
way to receive an instant transformation)

Not all sessions require PHS and a lot of hypnotists are afraid to use them in case they fail.

Some hypnotherapists are unsure of when’s the best time to use them during a session to
increase their chances of being accepted or acted upon.

Or you could be like me when I first started, and it was very hit and miss. Leaving me
scratching my head and thinking “what the hell have I done wrong?” “What am I missing
here?”.

I think of it like this: A hammer is just one tool, but without it, you’re going to struggle to hit
the nail on the head.

These are the 11 steps I was taught … we called it “dancing with the subjects unconscious”.

What is a Post Hypnotic Suggestion?

A post hypnotic suggestion is given during a hypnotic trance to be unconsciously acted


upon out of hypnosis.

It’s a powerful instruction that causes you to act in a certain way. And even feel a certain
feeling or do a specific behaviour.

But one thing that’s important to remember when using PHS is:

Not all Post Hypnotic Suggestions are created equal.

There’s a fine line between an artful PHS where a person feels compelled to act and a PHS
that your client jumps for joy over.

I was taught the Erickson model of nesting loops (stories within stories … you will notice most of my
work has layered metaphors) to induce hypnotic amnesia (hypnotic amnesia is in the modern

mentoring). This means you can place a well-crafted PHS inside these stories.

PHS should only be used to complement good hypnotherapy techniques and practices (be a
high-quality therapist over a money grabber).

For a good PHS to be effective you must hit the client at the identity level then back it up! (a
lot of people “know” but don’t use “knowledge”. You can tell people what is bad for them but if the desire is
to great the desire will always win … knowing tomato is a fruit. Knowledge is not putting it into fruit salad.)

If you are creating a PHS specific for your client, you simply ask them. I tell my client “I have
an opportunity to help you reach your goal today. Let’s say you have defeated this problem.
How do you see yourself in the future?”

From here I begin to negotiate a PHS with my client. As long as it is positive and in their own
words it will get results.

Here are the 11 steps shown to me:

1. Establish the Outcome

What does your client want? What is the reason they are coming to you?
If it’s to save money or because of a spouse it’s not going to work!! What does your client
see for themselves without this problem?

If they “don’t know” or there’s no real desire send them packing (it’s not that big of a problem for
them to want to change it … its harsh but true … there will be no change without a decision)

Take your time, work out the end goal and any beliefs that may get in the way of the
suggestion sticking (some of these goals have stages … you don’t eat one salad and become skinny! It
takes repetition)

Build a solid outcome or no amount of PHS will stick.

2. Flip YOUR switch

You state of mind needs to be supportive. Now I’m not talking about the words you speak.
I’m talking about your physiology and environment. Your physiology is communicating on a
non-verbal level that great things are about to happen.

If you are lethargic, distracted or emotionally not invested 100% in your client they will pick
up on this! If you are thinking “I get to finish in an hour” “it’s the weekend soon” your client
will pick up on this, you are not 100% invested.

Your client will mirror your actions. Feel confident, send positive vibes, compassion and
knowledge.

3. Therapeutic Work

If your client has objections to the positive changes, you’ll need to do some therapeutic
work. As this is a basic course in hypnosis and nlp the therapeutic work sections is available
in the modern mentoring.

4. ABS

No, I’m not talking about your stomach abs or your breaking system on your car.

This is the 3 things you must do before engaging PHS.

A – Attention: Absorb your subject’s attention (I ask my clients to stare at the floor as I tell them a
story)

B – Bypass the critical faculty: You client will begin to nod the head as they agree to the story
this means you have bypassed the CF. Drop them into trance. As they begin to nod and
agree say to them “close your eyes” continue your story or move straight into induction.

S – Stimulate the unconscious mind. You’re getting the unconscious mind to perform the
actual change work. This will help you to get your subject’s unconscious on board with your
suggestions. AKA trance.

5. Hypnotic Context

Is breaking down what the client wants to achieve into small steps. Studies show that
introducing small change is more beneficial long term then big change.

Break down what your client is wanting into small achievable steps.

EG: - You have a client that wants to walk 1 hour a day every day of the week. You start your
PHS small and make them bigger as you do more sessions … A good example to say is “to
begin with you will park your car far away from the store and walk briskly to the store, this
small amount of walking will increase your steps and gain you better results, then the next
week you find yourself compelled to walk from your home to the store, gaining more health
and fitness with every step you take” (you have to adapt this for your client’s needs, feasibility and
safety)

What you’ll often find is that over a period of 6-12 months they would have achieved the
results they were looking and then advanced on them.

6. Clear Behaviour

This can be a thought, feeling or even a perception.

At the start of the session you always establish with the client what they want in the future.
Ensure that it is a positive want and it is clearly defined.

No point in saying “I want to be happier” … just get them to smile and you’re done! Now
what? Be specific!

How will they become happier?

What are they doing? Define the whole behaviour clearly.

PHS is very valuable over multiple sessions as each identity can be defined and enhanced.
What exactly does you client want that is in the positive?

7. Attach the Behaviour to A Trigger

Think of this as a cause and effect. When X happens Y will happen. More advance training on
this is in the modern mentoring where we discuss triggers.

8. Gain Acceptance

No matter how great your PHS is your client’s unconscious can still reject it. This will occur is
they have a block or secondary gain. In the modern mentoring you can learn to test your
hypnosis and the rehearsal of the test (step 9).

You can always ask the unconscious what the restriction is when testing then reframe and re
confirm they accept (I do this with all my quit smoking clients).

9. Rehearsal (only get them to rehearse if not using amnesia … this works great for the analytically
minded)

10. Self-Feeding Suggestion Loop (Back up the Identity)

Create a PHS that piggybacks off a previous suggestion. This makes the suggestion stronger.
(e.g.: “you’re a non-smoker and you’re happy” … “I am a happy non-smoker”)

Non-Smoker is the Identity … You’re Happy is the back up (the why they are doing it)

11. Induce Amnesia and break state


Amnesia helps lock in the suggestion. Your client is suggestable for up to 6 hours after the
PHS is given. When amnesia is introduced it can negate anti suggestions (another words those
people that will derail your clients success)

Once you have placed your client into hypnosis you must learn how to bring them out of
hypnosis. No, you cannot get stuck in hypnosis. This is a myth that has plagued the industry.

There are a few techniques to awaken your client. The most commonly used is the counting
out method.
When your client is coming out of hypnosis they are in an extremely susceptible state.
Always ensure you break state after counting out to solidify amnesia and bring the conscious
back.
Methods of counting out:
➢ Counting out ➢ Sound stimulation
➢ Shock ➢ Cancellation

Counting out:
This is the most commonly used technique. It can be done in 2 ways (rapid or relaxation).

Rapid count out is done at a fast pace were relaxation is done at a slow place.
Rapid count script:
And on the count of 3 you will be back in the room … 1 (start raising the volume of your voice) …
coming back into the room … 2 (raise voice higher) that’s right! And 3 (raising voice louder, saying
clients name and making the sound of a deep breath in) … nice deep breathe in, eyes open …
welcome back!

Relaxing count script:
In a moment, I'm going to count from 1 – 5 with each number I count you find yourself
coming back to a wakeful state. Feel totally refreshed and energised.
(slowly raise voice with each number counter)

1 … Begin to awaken now


2 … Allowing all the suggestions and all the things you have learnt here today to integrate on
an unconscious level
3 … Begin to notice the sounds in the room and the sounds outside
4 … With a new appreciation of how wonderful your unconscious mind is
5 … Nice deep breath, stretch, eye open alert and refreshed. (you breathe in as well)
Welcome back

Sound stimulation:
Sound stimulation is done by creating a sound like the click of your fingers, ringing of a bell
or chime etc (choose what resonates with you … I personally like the Tibetan chime)

Script:

Your going to come back into the room now (insert client name). As soon as you here the chime
you will begin to come back into the room as quickly and as relaxed as you can. (start softly
ringing chime and slowly make it louder whilst saying) (client name) enter back into the room with the
chime … back into the room … welcome back!

Shock:
Only use shock with habit breaking clients (quit smoking, alcohol, drugs etc)
You need some confidence with shock and ensure you nail it! When your client is waking
from hypnosis they are in a susceptible state.

Slowly bring them into the room asking them to open their eyes. As soon as their eyes are
open lean over and shout sternly “It’s the next (insert product eg: cigarette) that will kill you no
STOP IT!!” then clap both your hands together in their face.

Cancellation:

The simplest technique that works best with light trance work and stage hypnosis.
Simply say to your client whilst you tap them on the shoulder. “you can relax now and take
back control. The hypnosis has been cancelled”

Hakalua is an NLP Hawaiian system for entering a rapid trance state at will. It is a great
practice to take up as a therapist and to teach your clients.

It is suggested that you start using the technique yourself in a quiet environment. Once
mastered begin using it inside and outside to enhance the senses and the learning.

It is a real eye opener and a wonderful technique to place into everyday practice.

Here is the step by step system to Hakalua.

1. Ho`ohaka: Just pick a spot on a wall to look at. Preferably at eye level
2. Kuu “to let go”: As you stare at this spot just let your mind go loose and focus your
attention on the spot
3. Lau “to spread out”: Within a matter of moments your vision will spread out, so you
can see more in the peripheral (edges of your sight).
4. Now pay attention to the peripheral. The
The Learning State
more you pay attention to the peripheral the
more your senses and learning opens up.
Stay in this state as long as you can and
notice the wonderful feelings that begin to
emerge whilst in this state.

As you master the technique more and more it becomes impossible to hold onto the
negative in the conscious (some shamans won’t make eye contact with people as it will break interfere
with the state)

Pace, pace, leading technique is wonderful to learn for the following reasons.

1. You can use it stop an angry person


2. Use it as a sales technique
3. Use it to bring someone out of the dumps
4. Makes the client feel like they are in control and empowering them

This is how you do it:

1. PACE: Match the persons tone, actions and volume (if they are loud and angry match it, if
they are soft and down match it)

2. PACE: Agree with them (eg: if a person is yelling in an angry tone you yell in the same tone “I
understand your frustrated, I agree with you!”)

3. LEAD: Connect with the person with similarities (align with them) and slowly bring your
tone, actions and volume to a more appropriate level (eg: the angry person … previously
you agreed with them and then you say “Let’s sort out a solution together” whilst you say this bring
the tone, volume and actions down to a better response)

4. Tell them the truth. Create a solution and lead them towards the solution. Discuss a
better outcome and a way of success.

When pacing someone you must be patient. Some people want to be in that place of bad
emotions for a period to process it.

Do not start leading someone to a solution till they are ready. This means they trust you
sufficiently enough to follow you. Still be cautious here as the person is sensitive. Stay
connected with the person till they have exited the environment.

“Future pacing” is an NLP principle that is used in more advanced training. It is a very popular
technique used when breaking habits, addictions, fears and phobia (this is available in the
modern mentoring)

Hot, cold and warm reading is also known as “the language of psychics”. This section is not
designed to teach you to become a psychic or to debunk psychics. It is designed to give
examples of other techniques that people use.

Hot reading – Is where the reader already knows information about the client that the client
doesn’t know the reader knows. This technique can be used to create rapport with a person.
EG: you found out they like playing golf, so you can approach them with a common interest.
This information could be found out by background checks, gossip or overheard information.

Cold reading – employs high probability guesses to receive quick signals and information.
Probing the client to give information freely whilst implying the reader somehow “already
knows”. Many therapists believe this appears to work because of the “barnum effect” (more
available on this in the modern mentoring)

EG: “I’m sensing you’re not feeling like yourself”

Warm reading - This is sometimes referred to as using Barnum statements. Barnum


statement is a principle that applies to nearly everyone. EG: a female grieving client will
usually wear or have a piece of jewellery of the deceased. Making a statement like “there’s a
piece of jewellery” allows the client to make the connection and then claim there is a
message in it.

I will touch basically on the 12 steps to cold reading.

This can assist you in crating a better connection with your


clients (more training on the language of psychics is available in the
modern mentoring)

12 Steps to cold reading:

1. Use your environment to setup the mood and feel of


your session.
2. Be modest about your statements. Don’t make crazy claims.
3. Tell them success is dependent on how much they input.
4. Be confident with your information
5. Conceal questions as statements EG: I feel sad I wonder why?
6. Let the client do most of the talking.
7. Pay attention to the client’s mannerism.
8. Pay attention to the clients clothing.
9. Speak in general statements. EG: as a child there were times of anger and like no one
understood you.
10. Let the client guide the subject.
11. Offer empathy and reassurance.
12. Apply solution.

The language of psychics is fascinating.

It is great for stage shows, learning psychic abilities and more.

I must agree with Derren Brown when it comes to these types of languages. If you are
studying, it for psychic purposes and giving people hope and healing then your doing it for
the right reasons. Many people have natural psychic and mediumship abilities (and many
unfortunately do not).

Using it on stage is very effective and convincing to the audience.


Confidence is the key!

Eye fixation and eye techniques can prove very powerful to a hypnotist and NLP master. The
eyes are the windows to the soul.

Learning these two pieces of information can place you above the rest.

Eye techniques can help you:

• Understand if your client is lying.


• Learn how they construct and express information.
• Help you know if they are truly opening up to the service.
• Gives away secrets to underlying issues
• Make you a better poker player hahahahaha (seriously it can!)

There are 9 main ways eye movement will reveal personal information (I have also included
some extras down the bottom which are eye body language). Eye

movement is the way people access, create and gather


information on a conscious and unconscious level.

Remember when we talk about eye movement you will be


facing the client, so it will be opposite (there left is your right).
Ensure that you understand that reading eye movement has
to be approached with empathy. As much as your client’s
eyes say they are not telling the truth this does not mean they are lying. This can mean that
they are just trying to construct information. Respond appropriately or you will lose rapport.

1. Looking straight ahead - It shows interest and they know what they are talking about
according to the lessons and morals they have adapted into their structure of reality (it
doesn’t make the information right or wrong its just what works for the client).

2. Looking up – The person is carefully constructing the information with emotion and
logic. They are also placing themselves into a learning state (also associated with smell
recognition).

3. Looking up and to the left – Visual Remembered. They are seeing the memory.
4. Looking to the left – Audio Remembers. They are trying to remember a sound.
5. Looking down to the left – Kinaesthetic Remembers. They remember the feeling.
6. Looking up and right – Visual Construct. Trying to construct the information that’s
logical that may or may not be present.
7. Looking to the right – Audio Construct. Trying to construct the sound or what was
heard.
8. Looking down to the right – Auditory Digital. The client has lost there natural learning
state and is stuck in being analytical. They will react based one being told what to do
rather then what they would naturally wish to do.
9. Looking down – The person has gone into a “submissive” state and/or disinterest.

As you have found out some of the information is “constructed”. This can be done by the
client for various reasons:

➢ They don’t want to accept what truly happened


➢ Its easier to make up another story
➢ They are trying to make it all make sense
➢ To feel significance or recognition about the situation
➢ To enhance the experience/information/story
➢ It’s their interpretation of the information

As much as the information may not be correct it doesn’t make your client a liar (some may be
but understand the underlying emotion that goes with the construction will allow you to dig into your
hypnosis and nlp tools to break through that information and achieve better results for your clients)

Eg: I once played computer games with a lady. In the computer game you would sail a ship as
a pirate around the world looking for treasure. You could make alliances with other pirates
and receive a cut of their treasure.

As soon as we would make an alliance with another ship she would say “I don’t trust them. If
they come near us, we will attack and break the alliance”. Then one day I said to her “What
needs to be said for you to relax about the alliance?” … she never responded.

I had taken her from a constructed audio response of I don’t trust them to her emotion of
“safety”. As long as she felt safe, she relaxed. So, we just made sure we never sailed near
alliance ships that may attack us.

Some other eye movements to note also include:

1. Rapid Eye Movement … A study by John Hopkins Medicine in 2014 reported that
people who are less patient or impulsive will move their eyes at greater speeds. If your
client is looking around the room a lot or moving their eyes rapidly you may wish to
apply the pace, pace, lead technique to help ensure them to relax.
2. Plodding eyes reflect a wandering mind … when the client is not interested in the
subject they will begin to wander around the room with the eyes. This does not mean
that you are a boring person. It just means the subject is not relevant to the results
the client is trying to achieve.
3. Slow eye movement indicates the level of fatigue … if a client is moving there eyes
slowly or blinking slowly this is a representation that the client is fatigued and out of
energy.
4. Tracking eye movement … When you master the 6 main ways eye movement works
you will find you can positively influence the client’s morals and decisions.
5. Gaze cues … is when a client’s attention shifts. EG: a child will react to a “gaze cue” by
watching tv over getting dressed.
6. REM (rapid eye movement) during sleep … This occurs when we are in a deep sleep. The
amygdala and hippocampus begin to file and sort the information from the mind.
Upgrading the thought patterns, healing, habits and protection. It can increase
positive emotions and healing (who doesn’t like a good night’s sleep?).
7. Jerky eye movement … can predict underlying physical issues with the body (an
iridologist can assist with this)

Go and practice recognising eye movements. Sometimes the eye will move so slow and small
you wont even notice it and others will be predominant in movement and speed.
The key to this skill is practice and to not take any of the information as a personal attack
(people would rather protect themselves then be honest. This does not make them bad people. This makes
them people protecting themselves)

Say to your client:

“we have an opportunity to upgrade what you want today. Let’s create a sentence to help
your unconscious take on what you want to achieve. It must be positive and in your words”

Now create the PHS. You can create more than 1. Ensure that they are easy to say, positive
and in your client’s words. Negotiate back and forth till the client is 100% satisfied with the
suggestion.

You must recite the sentence WORD FOR WORD fluently and at double your normal speaking
speed.

Step 4: Induction

Sit back, relax and slowly close your eyes. As you close your eyes you can feel yourself
beginning to enjoy the feeling of relaxation. Slowly breathing in (make soft inhale sound in time
with client) … then slowly breathing out (soft exhale sound in time with client) … and again … slowly
breathing in (example as before) and slowly breathing out (example as before) … letting go of all
your thoughts with every breath you take. Continuing now to breathe deeply and slowly ….
in … very slowly (soft inhale sound with slow pacing) and out (soft exhale with slow pacing) even
slower now. In front of you now is a small speck of light. This is a relaxing ... calm light. Like a
star that’s far off into the distance. Only this light is so close that you feel you could just
reach out and touch it. And why not do that? See yourself reaching out slowly and touching
the tiny speck of light. This beautiful glittering speck of light. As you do the tiny speck of light
dances softly on the tip of your finger. Glistening and glowing away, this light makes you feel
calm, peaceful and very very relaxed. You begin to notice now this calming relaxing soft light
beginning to create a healing glow. This healing glow is so relaxing to watch. The glow begins
covering your fingers. As you feel every finger relaxing more and more and more … as this
light … the light of relaxation softly covers your hands and drifts all the way up to your
elbows. Relaxing every muscle, every nerve and every fibre as it travels slowly ... up your
arms and to your shoulders. Your arms become very very heavy. So, heavy you don't feel like
moving them. And that doesn't matter right now. All that matters is letting go and relaxing

deeper and deeper and even deeper. As this healing, glowing soft light envelopes your
shoulders. Taking away all the worries from your shoulders. Really feel your shoulders
beginning to relax as you go deeper and deeper and even deeper now. Calm, peaceful, very
very relaxed. This relaxing light flows slowly over your entire back. Your back gets so tense.
But now you feel every muscle and every fibre in your back loosening and relaxing. Letting go
of all the tension in your back. As this wonderful healing light travels now … over your hips
and your bottom … drifting down the backs of your thighs, flowing into the backs of your
knees, all the way down, that's right! all the way down to your ankles … your ankles are
loosening, and the relaxing light continues all the way down to your toes. Feel every toe just
relaxing as you drift down deeper and deeper and even deeper, very good. Find yourself
really enjoying this relaxing feeling that's coming over you. Giving yourself the permission ...
to relax. The light now comes back up the fronts of your legs, relaxing all the muscle fibres in
the shins, flowing softly over your knees, over the thighs and into your hips. Your legs
become heavier and heavier as you drift deeper and deep … and even deeper into blissful
relaxation. Your whole body is going to butter like it has been left out on a warm summer
day. This wonderfully relaxing healing light now covers your stomach and chest area.
Relaxing every muscle, every fibre, and every system in your stomach and chest area. Feel
yourself sinking deeper and deeper into this healing relaxing light...... As it now travels slowly
and softly up the front of your chest and into your neck. This light is relaxing every fibre and
every muscle in your neck. Relaxing every muscle so you can truly drift deeper and deeper.
As the muscles in your neck relax the light begins to softly touch your face. It’s comforting to
know that your drifting deeper and deeper into blissful relaxation. A place of happiness and
content. The light begins to touch your face now. You can feel it softly touching your mouth
and lips sending all the muscles into blissful relaxation. This healing light spreads to your
cheeks and behind the ears relaxing every nerve and every fibre ... Now your eyelids seem to
become very ... very heavy … so heavy you don't seem to want to open them. That's ok just
let yourself drift away into blissful relaxation. As the light … the light of relaxation touches
your forehead and smooths away all the little lines. Letting go of all the tension. Feel this
light of relaxation sending you deeper …. and deeper …. and even deeper. Very good. Even
deeper now. The light now begins to flow over the crown of your head. Relaxing every
muscle .... every nerve .... and every fibre in the crown of your head and all the way through
your body. And as you are their …. so comfortable and so deeply relaxed.
Step 5: Deepener
And now as I count down from 10 to 1. You find yourself listening to my voice. As each
number, I count down you drift deeper, deeper and even deeper into blissful relaxation.

Step 6: Convincers

You are feeling more and more relaxed and comfortable … Allow your body to relax and your
mind to be calm … As you breathe slowly … You are in a wonderful state of hypnosis … your
eyelids are heavy … so heavy they don’t even seem to want to open … on the count of three
you will find that you just cannot open them … you will find that with a little bit of delight
they just won’t open … 1 , 2 , 3 … that’s ok don’t try anymore … your eyelids are returning to
normal now.
Step 7: Problem free regression
I wonder if you can remember a time back when you felt satisfied with the foods you ate. I wonder if you
can find a specific time … when you were younger. at healthyfound them fuller filling. When you were in
control of eating and hunger levels, and could go throughout your day doing your activities happily and
easily. I wonder if you can find this time when you were younger before you had … this problem is gone.
When you felt, you were in control and you were completely satisfied with the small amount of food you
ate. Can you remember a specific time? When you remember the specific time back when d. That’s right.
moment in the past again now, you begin to notice all the positive advantages you have in that moment,
how good you feel physically? How calm you feel mentally? How naturally relaxed you are knowing theirs
no problem there. That's right take on these positive learnings now and enjoy them. Because its such a
wonderful thing to…

Step 8: Hypnoanalysis (this script is an example of 3 layered metaphors)

(METAPHOR 1 OPEN)

I know you are wondering and it’s a good thing to wonder, as you find yourself in the
comfort of your own home. You imagine you are in the kitchen. Picture the kitchen area right
now, exactly how you know it will be, and feel the comfort of your own home. All the items
are on the bench tops where they are supposed to be. You can see your cooking area, notice
the colour of the bench tops now, then the colour of the walls appear. Slowly every inch of
your kitchen comes to life EXACTLY how you know it is. As you stop for a moment with the
comfort of this place you suddenly realise that this is the area in which there is always
something to do. It’s like this area never just switches off and is done. This area always has
something niggling away at you or a demand to be met. Yet you know these demands are
what you create for yourself and the standards in which you choose to live. As you stand in
this area thinking about the standards of living you hear a drip … drip … drip … sound. You
stop momentarily. Engage your listening skills and zone in on the drip … drip … drip. It’s a
steady drip … slow but steady. You make you way to the sink. Open the cupboard beneath
the sink as the water over flows all over your feet and you find yourself
(METAPHOR 2 OPEN)

enjoying the cool water of the swimming pool. It washes over your toes and relaxes you
more and more. The coolness of the water entices you to take a seat on the edge of the pool
and place your legs into the water. It’s a warm sunny day. The sun is making the temperature
just perfect to go for a swim. You large brimmed hat is protecting you from the sun’s rays
whilst you can still enjoy the warm. Breathing deeply, it allows you to relax and just enjoy
yourself. You swing your legs back and forth softly in the water. The gentle water massages
your muscles as it swirls around and around. The cooling water swirls and massages your leg
muscles, relaxing your ankles and toes. Everything relaxes in this perfect place to let all
negative thoughts go a switch to the positive. The relaxing positive. Absorbing all the warm
rays of the sun whilst massaging your legs with the cool swirling water. You decide to slip
into the water at the shallow end and just wade in the cool cleansing water. The swirling
water begins to massage and relax ALL the muscles in your body. Relaxing the back,
shoulders, hips and thighs. You can relax as you switch off and rely on your natural instincts.
(METAPHOR 3 OPEN)

You know the natural instincts of wild animals allow them to eat happily and it’s a good thing
to do this. You also know that the animals in the wild are not obese as they rely on their
natural instincts to stay healthy and alive. It’s very easy to do … and you can do it to … can’t
you? These natural instincts come from the wild animal’s mind and body being in sync with
each other. That means as the wild animal searches for its food it knows to have enough to

be satisfied and that the hunger will never bother them as they have switched it off, so they
can enjoy other activities. They can be healthy and free of all burdens. All the animals, every
single animal on the earth is free of any un necessary worries. The wild animals hunger only
sets in when they truly need to refuel. You can learn that the natural instincts allow them to
distinguish between true hunger and pretend hunger. Recognise that it is easier and easier
to learn to rely on your natural instincts. As you imagine yourself now going back to a time
when you relied on your natural instincts. When your mind and body worked together for a
greater cause. In front of you now you see an old wooden table. This table has had many
sittings at it over its time and has many stories to tell. At one end of the table is a blue glass.
Sitting still all on its own. You observe the glass wondering why just one glass would be
sitting one such a large old table. As you look around you notice on the glass it has a label
that says, “all-natural juice” and it has a small amount of blue liquid inside it. Then suddenly
at the other end of the table a red glass appears. You walk around the table to the red glass
and it is labelled “full bodied goodness” and it also has a small amount of liquid in it. You
take a glass in each hand and decide to mix the two liquids together and make your own
wonderful drink named “all-natural full drink” this wonderful liquid ... you find yourself
feeling refreshed and satisfied. It’s all natural after all and naturally you feel full drinking such
a small amount.
Step 9: insert PHS as a direct suggestion.

➢ You feel satisfied and filled with small amounts of food


➢ You keep yourself active and entertained
➢ You feel free and healthy.

mmmmm … that all-natural full drink was so delicious. You feel healthier and healthier both
on the inside and out. The natural instincts between the body and mind are working again.
Now you find yourself sharing this skill because you know you can use this natural skill to
stay healthy. You can feel it! It just makes sense. When you learn that the mind and the
body work as one, they can achieve wonderful new things. Can’t they?! Yes, they can! As a
team, they can ripple into other areas and achievements. You've got this, haven't you? A
man once quoted that henry ford had said “whether you think you can or think you can’t,
you're right” and you know you can! You've learnt that you can … create pride and
accomplishment. This accomplishment relaxes you. And the sense of pride washes over
every muscle.

rejuvenating. The sun is beginning to set in the distance. As the temperature begins to get
cool and the water changes as well. You feel totally full and recharged now. As you stand in

everything you don't need. Switching you to the positive. Your body feels wonderful and it is
sending you messages as a greater whole. Listening to your body has always been the right
way to go about your life. The most peaceful way to go on your journey. You grab your soft
warm towel from the edge of the pool and begin to dry your skin … it feels so clean and fresh
as the water drips down

and you notice under the sink is a small leaking pipe. You've caught this small leak in time to
know there is no damage to the surrounding areas. Your smart wit tells you it’s time to call
the plumber and get this fixed whilst its only small. The phone helps you make the correct
connection to the right person. As you ring the plumber the phone is answered by a very
friendly voice. “hello how may I … solve this problem today” says the plumber at the other
end. You advise them the pipe under the sink has a small leak and ask how quickly they could
look at it, so no further damage is done.
This plumber is efficient and tells you “I will be there right away and … the problem is gone”
after exchanging details. The plumber asks that you go to the main water tap in the yard and
switch it off as to not cause further damage and overflow. You are learning to do this easily
and naturally. Finding the main water tap you switch it off.
Once the plumber arrives you ask, “is there any way I could fix this leak as I love to learn new
things”. This wonderful plumber in honoured you have asked for some advice. Educating you
that the leak wasn't that bad and all you needed was some of these all-natural products you
can fill the hole yourself with a small amount.
The plumber patiently demonstrates what is required and how to easily fix it yourself. You
begin your task of using a small amount of product to fill the hole where the leak was
occurring from. You can relax knowing that this problem is now gone, and you did it!!!

Step 10 Insert Amnesia:

Maybe you will forget to remember anything that you haveremembered to forget to remember. Perhaps
you will rembeber to froget anything till you have had the most wonderful dream and rest. you are
knowing theirs no problem there. That's right take on these positive learnings now and enjoy them.

In a moment, I'm going to count from 1 – 5 with each number I count you find yourself

What is a trigger?

The best way to explain it is by an example:

EG: you smell something, and your brain deciphers what it is … egg, petrol, rain etc.

It relates to all 5 senses:

➢ Touch
➢ Smell
➢ Taste
➢ Sound
➢ Sight

The senses become triggered with messages. Those messages then create a response to
which an action occurs.

Sometimes your client won’t like the response/action that occurs. This is why they will come
for hypnosis to help revaluate the response for a better action.

A well crafted PHS will greatly assist with this as well as cognitive behaviour therapy.

Other triggers exist such as spiritual triggers. Many people can be unsure how they know
certain information. This is usually placed in with the “touch” aka feeling sense. However, it
is becoming recognised that “energy” may be another sense that is more evolved than
touch/feel. Also known as the 6th sense.
There’s only one way to find a client’s trigger. Listen to your client! Simply shut up and
observe your client. Many therapists talk and assume with there clients. Be an Eriksonian
therapist where you remain silent and perceive more.

The ideomotor response is a way the client responds with the unconscious whilst in deep
hypnosis trance.

EG: if you look around you and see something to pick up, you go and do it (that is a conscious
action carried out by a conscious decision).

Ideomotor responses are an unconscious muscle reaction where a thought can come into
our head causing the muscle to respond. It usually goes unnoticed.
An ideomotor response can come in the following forms from your client:

➢ Finger movement ➢ Hand movement


➢ Head nod ➢ Speaking

The most commonly used ideomotor response is the movement of a finger. EG: you may ask
the client to move a finger in response to a question whilst in deep trance.

First place your client in hypnotic trance. Once they have gone through the induction,
deepener and convincers if the session requires an ideomotor response you can use it at
anytime from this stage to awakening. Ideomotor responses are mostly used in parts therapy
(you can learn that in the modern mentoring). Most of the time an ideomotor response script is a

guideline. It is not set in stone and the therapist must learn to adapt the basic guidelines for
the client at the time to receive the outcome.

SCRIPT GUIDELINES:

“When you are ready to go down these stairs simply nod your head for me (wait then say thank
you)”

“Whilst you are sitting and relaxing deep in that chair you will become curious about one of

your hands. Its as if you hand is telling you to pick me”
“I want you now to feel a twitching in one of your fingers as if a fly has landed on it. Allow it
to twitch in its own time”
“We are going to choose a finger to respond with yes now. Allow one finger to create a
feeling of urgency in it. Like a child that knows the answer and desperately wants to respond.
That finger is wanting to raise up and say yes! (await finger raise then thank the response). This is
the finger that will answer yes to any questions being asked. Do you understand? (await finger
response)”

Take your time when utilizing this technique. At first your client is learning how to do this
and even if you have to wait a full minute its ok! Even the tiniest of movements you must
reinforce by saying “that’s right” or “thankyou”.
Ensure that you are congruent when asking for a response. If you are asking for the finger to
“twitch” then say … the finger that wishes to respond feels twitchy.

Use metaphoric language to amplify the response. “your finger will twitch as if a fly has
landed on it”. Erikson used to talk about how when you’re in the passenger seat of a car you
sometimes press down on the floor as if the brake was there (this is an unconscious response to
stop). The unconscious can respond without you noticing. Ever finish that cup of tea and go

for another sip and its gone? That’s an ideomotor response.

An alternative method is an ideosensory response (these are great when working with issues that
are physical like pain and work as a great convincer as well). An ideosensory response is when the

client has a sensation rather than moving. EG: if the pain is worse answer yes, if the pain is
weaker answer no. You are talking directly to the problem and its representation. Full
training on this is available in the modern mentoring.

Each client is unique and will experience the ideomotor response as an individual. Ensure
that the response is an unconscious response NOT a conscious one. If you receive a
conscious response continue deepening the client till an unconscious response occurs.

EG: you have asked the client to nod their head in response and they do it as if they are
conscious.

Ideomotor and ideosensory responses are great and will always receive immediate results
when the client is open to change. These are the true phenomena of hypnosis and great fun
to do as well!

Somnambulism comes from Amand-Marie-Jacques de Chastenet, Marquis de Puysegur was
a French aristocrat that is remembered as on of the pre-scientific founders of hypnotism.

Somnambulistic is the action of being in a deep trance that represents a sleepwalker. This is
a state that can create maximum response in the clinic, on the street or on stage.

Somnambulism is a deep trance state. It represents a deep sleep and the brainwaves are at a
very low hertz.

Signs of Somnambulism:

1. The person looks like they are very slowly relaxing and when they wake up, they say
“it’s not working” or “I’m not asleep” (only showing them the time that has passed will
convince them otherwise)

2. Non-responsive. The client looks like they have fallen into a deep sleep right before
you.

What is a somnambulist?

A somnambulist is a person that easily drops in and out of hypnosis. Some people have
practiced this art and others do it naturally. These are the hypnotists dream clients! They
respond to commands and are highly suggestible. They make being hypnotised look
awesome!

External environments are always to be considered as a contributing factor in your client’s
lack of ability to solve a problem.

I will break down external environments into 3 categories.

1. The Client
2. You as a therapist
3. Your clinic

First things first. Your client.

Your client is coming to you to solve a problem on an unconscious level. This is easy enough
to do with the hypnosis tools you have learnt. HOWEVER, what happens when the client
returns to their natural environment?

You client will spend approximately 2 hours with you in a session. That equates to 1.19% of
their week. During the other 98.81% of the week their external environment will influence
their decisions. This can in turn undo all your wonderful work!
Part of working with a client is also working with the trigger for the issue.

EG: if the client has an abusive partner how are you going to help your client. You can’t hang
out at your client’s house 24/7.

This is where cognitive behaviour therapy comes into place. With a well-constructed C.B.T. a
client can create a plan of success for the external environment (some CBTS are so well crafted
that it ripples into other areas of the client’s life creating an even better outcome) After the session is

completed a C.B.T. is given to the client to complete.

There are different forms of C.B.T.s:

➢ Tasks ➢ Habit Breaking


➢ Goals ➢ Safety Nets/Plans
➢ Action Plans ➢ Emergency Contingencies

Just to name a few.


This is where the client begins to break down the external environments negativity that has
been creating an internal thought/action they don’t want.

Many therapists do not engage in C.B.T.s and then wonder why they client says the therapy
“wore off”. If your doing multiple sessions with your client a C.B.T. can also give you
information of what is happening around your client that your client hasn’t told you about.
This is where your physiology observation skills come in and you can probe for more
information.

You as a therapist are resonating an energy that your client is picking up on on a


subconscious level. When you decide to become a therapist understand that you are also
part of that client’s external environment.

Here are some tips on representing a great external environment so your client can relax
knowing they have made the right choice:

➢ Choose your style. Brand yourself and be true to it!

➢ Live it, work it, breathe it. Practice hypnosis yourself.

➢ You are the authority figure. Step up for your reputation!

➢ Social media is also a reflection. Keep your shit off it (write it in a diary or see a therapist
yourself)

➢ People are watching and always picking up on your energy.

➢ Be humble yet proud.

➢ Be true and honest.

Your clinic is an extension of you as a therapist. It is usually the first creator of prestige. A
clinics representation can really amplify a positive or negative external environment.

Here are some tips:

➢ AGAIN, choose your style. Brand yourself and be true to it!

➢ The environment has more than visual appeal. Smell, touch, temperature all matter!

➢ Your quality is represented in your style.

➢ The whole lot matters … entrance, toilet, waiting area ….

➢ Adjust everything. This is an experience that you will be uniquely known for.

➢ Be humble yet proud.

Your client is looking to employ you to help them with a problem.

➢ Make it an enjoyable experience. Sure, it’s a clinic but its not like your client is “sick”.

➢ Your client is in a horrible mindset. Blow their expectations!

➢ The way your client speaks, dresses reflects the environment they hold themselves in.
You can gain valuable information from this. Help your client understand how the
environment that they are living/working in can affect the internal environment and
their thoughts.

➢ If your client’s environment is low quality do not be afraid to do a session with them
about raising their standards and self-worth. Give your client what they need. Sure,
they may want to quit smoking, but they also need some more support. Each client is
an individual.

Look at your external environment. You will be amazed how simply creating a higher
standard for yourself can ward of depression and anxiety. The same applies to your
client’s world.

Honestly it is happening everywhere these days! Pubs are cleaning up their acts and
creating “themed” bars, dentists are creating more relaxing clinics with colour, markets
and stall holders are using the external environment to create displays to sell there
products better. You are the same not only in a clinic situation but also as a person that is
in someone else’s external environment

I’ve lost track of the amount of people I have come across that have learnt a great skill and
are still struggling to get clients. This can come down to 2 things.
1. They really aren’t committed to growing the business.
2. They don’t know how to sell themselves (it’s usually this one)
NLP is a waking or conversational hypnosis technique you can use to learn to sell yourself
without sounding like some cheap rip off artist.

This is how you start. It is a simple 6-step process (there is a whole section in the modern mentoring
that will teach you easy selling points):

Write down some greetings that your comfortable saying.


EG: - Hello, G’day, Hi
Ensure that you can say the greeting confidently and professionally.
This will begin to break the ice (you may add a gesture like a hand shake).
Set these words aside for later.

What’s the name you call yourself?


EG: I am Trish Palmer
I could’ve gone with Patrisha (my actual name), Patrisha Palmer, Miss Palmer, Trish.
Write down what name you want people to recognize you by and stick to it.

Step 3 – Location

What is significant about where you are from?


Write down all the words that can relate to where you are from.

Pick out your favorite ones to help you spark conversation about where you are from.
EG: - I am from Mount Gambier (doesn’t sound very special) but my area is known as the
Limestone Coast.

Step 4 – Adjective

An adjective is a descriptive word.

Write down as many descriptive words of what you do. Then choose the ones that stand out
to you (set them aside with your greetings).
EG: - Limestone Coasts MASTER Hypnotherapist.
You can choose many other words like: -
➢ LEADING
➢ BEST
➢ FUNNIEST
Find the word that sits best with you!

Step 5 – Title

What’s your title?

Write down all the titles you can think of and set aside those that radiate with you. This best
describes your profession.
EG: I used to be a massage therapist, but I hated being known as a masseur.
So, I’d always promote myself as a masseuse (I liked the way it sounded fancy).
Examples of titles include: CEO, Coach, Linguist, Healer.

Step 6 – Play

Take all the words from each section and write them into sentences.
Play with the words till you come up with a sentence that introduces you and rolls off your
tongue with pride.
EG: - Hi. I’m Trish Palmer … Limestone Coasts Master Hypnotherapist.

I have included a page for you to print and start creating your introduction.

Use it to network yourself to people when they ask who you are or what you do.

It’s just like when you started to walk as a baby. Each time you fell you got back up again and
kept practicing. Even as an adult if you fall you get up and go again. Practice your
introduction till it becomes your catch automatic catch phrase.
Just like bugs bunny says, “what’s up doc?”.

Why use C.B.T.s?

You use CBT’s to help your client through the challenges they are facing and to open their
minds to possibility rather than limitations.

The difference between a CBT and a goal is that the CBT is created by you as the therapist to
engage in your client’s progress.

There's 168hr is a week

If you see your client for a 2hr session you are only engaging with them for 1.19% of their
week. It’s not much really!
That’s where CBT’s come in

By giving a client a CBT that works with their solution you can get them to engage in their
own thought process.

This gives them the tools to succeed once they finish working with you for ongoing success!!

How do you make a CBT that works?

It’s Simple!

I started by looking at ALL of my protocols and asked myself “how can I expand on this so my
client is pre-prepared for the next sessions outcome”

EG: My Basic Weight Loss Protocol goes for 6 weeks.

First, I do a free consult and when the client signs up, I give
them an “inner child CBT” as the first session in the protocol
is all about learning to love and respect yourself again.

The inner child CBT asks the client to write down what they
used to do for fun? What gave them energy as a child? What
did they want to be as a child and why? This helps put the
client into a positive state for the first session and removes
the “I don’t know” answer that many clients rely on as a safe
guard.

From here I can take all this information and customize the session to their SOR (structure of
reality).
I can also amplify desires they had for the things the used to love to do:

EG: I had a lady that was so obese she could barely walk. She informed me she used to love
playing in her cubby house on the farm. Whilst in session I took her back to the cubby

house and amplified how much excitement she got when she walked to the destination.
Then how somedays she was so excited she believed she could run.

By the following session the client had started walking around her garden and to the local
shop instead of driving.

They are on their way! When working in the mental health industry your number one
priority is your own personal mental health.
If a client is presenting with a problem that is outside your training refer them on. This will
create the image that you are an honest therapist (rather than working with a client that fails and
blames you … there negativity will spread fast!).

There are 4 steps to working with difficult clients:

➢ Step one … delete

➢ Step two … responsibility

➢ Step three … the nlp question system

➢ Step four … solution

First things first. … Delete the word difficult out of your mind!

These people are:

➢ Limited ➢ Un - Resourceful

➢ In disbelief ➢ Enabled

➢ Challenging ➢ In Effect

Explain to your client about Cause and Effect (this what at the start of the training).

I always tell my client.

“It may not be your fault, but it is your responsibility how you allow it to affect your future”

Say to your client:

Will you be the victim or victor of this problem?

WOW! Nobody has ever put it like that to them (this is where you are putting your client at cause).

ONE OF TWO THINGS WILL HAPPEN AFTER THIS:

1. Your client will become annoyed, agitated and will start making excuses (they are in
effect and want to blame someone else for the problem).

2. They will STOP and THINK … (this is showing that change to them is already starting they are
moving into cause)

IN EITHER CASE move to step three.

Your client starts making excuses!!! … Find the biggest excuse they have.

Ask them:

“What’s the biggest thing you believe is holding you back?”

(write it on a white board in the middle and chunk it DOWN!) … you want to find specifically

who/what it is … This is a method known as chunking more advanced training on this is


available in the modern mentoring.

Ask some or all the following questions…

➢ ARE there any other examples of people (insert problem) that solved this?

➢ Who specifically?

➢ What specifically?

➢ Where specifically?

➢ Keep going till you find the client running out of options

By now the client is starting to think differently about the problem.

Ask some or all the following questions…

➢ Who makes you believe this?

➢ How do you feel when you believe this?

➢ For what purpose?

Keep going till you find the core emotion (the client will express or tell you what it is).

Now you have found your clients core emotion and specifically what is causing it.

From here you can plan a path to success

Your client will now have awareness as to why they are repeating this cycle, so you can help
them with a better direction.

During this process you will create rapport and become more of an authority figure.

It will either Move the client into action (cause) or raise (effect).

If the client still doesn’t want to accept this information, they are not ready to move ON
from the issue (they are in effect) Simply refer them to someone else.

You still come out on top!!!!

Is a simple one sentence NLP technique. It is very effective and can be added at any stage to
a hypnosis session.
Many therapists forget to use benefitting, yet it is extremely powerful! (especially with weight
loss and quit smoking clients)

Benefitting was established as it came to the realisation that nobody did anything with a
benefit or leverage being involved.

Leverage is a task that you set for your client before they begin hypnosis sessions with you to
ensure that they really are willing and ready for change.

EG: as a leverage task you may ask a smoker to collect 500 cigarettes butts and number
them all before the next session. Sticking them in order from 1 – 500 on a piece of paper.

If they client does the leverage task it shows the therapist, they are truly committed to
change. If they don’t you have dodged an unsuccessful client. Usually the leverage task is
something unpleasant.

Benefitting on the other hand is a pleasant experience.

Everybody does something for a reason. Whether it is a conscious or subconscious gain.


Benefitting forces, the subconscious to come out and examine what's in it for them. What is
it looking for that it hasn’t bought into conscious awareness?

It may be physical gain, emotional gain or energy gain.

Ask the client to imagine they are in the future … Really play it out in the most positive light
available!

Then say to your client:

“Let’s assume you have already achieved your goal. What’s in it for you?”

I say it with a hint of smugness and gain in my voice.

Allow client to answer and ensure that it is in a positive light (remember the unconscious only
process’s in the positive).

Repeat back to the client the positive benefits and ask them to imagine themselves out in
the future with all of those benefits being present.
EG: if the quit smoker is wanting more money, ask them to imagine themselves out in the
future with more money in their pocket. As they are doing this ask them “what are you doing
with all the extra money?” … “how good does it feel to buy X?”. Amplify it as much as
possible before breaking state.

Stage, street, party hypnosis. Whatever you want to call it its great fun to do!

It’s always handy to have a few tricks up your sleeve as people always want to see “proof”
that they can be hypnotised. As long as your client is a willing participant you are good to go.

Here are 3 tricks to practice and master:

1. Forget your name.


2. Stick a stick.
3. Tongue fall out.

Forget your name:

Ask clients permission to touch them (always get consent or you will look like a dunce). Stand
directly in front of the client, stare between his/her eyes, and when you notice his/her eyes
become set begin stroking down the sides of his face and around his/her mouth, as you say:
“Your lips are becoming stuck fast together and you cannot open your mouth now. Your lips
are stuck together so you cannot speak. Try to speak. See you cannot speak because you
cannot open your mouth. Try, try hard! Tell me your name if you can. See, you cannot even
speak your own name!” The client will try to speak, but their mouth remains tightly shut.

Now move your fingers gently around his mouth and say:

“Now your mouth muscles are relaxing, and you can


speak, but you still cannot speak your name. See you
can speak now. Say ‘Hello’ to me (client says “Hello”), but
you cannot speak your own name; you can’t even
remember what it is!” A sort of blank look will come
over the client’s face. He/she finds that not only is he
unable to speak his/her name, but somehow it eludes
them.

Cancel the suggestion by saying:

“All right. You can speak and remember your name now.” They comply and speak their
name.

You can elaborate on the forget your name trick by getting them to stutter their name (all this
and many more are available in the modern mentoring).

Stick the Stick:

Ask the client to stand before you and tightly grip a stick.

Have them grip a stick from underneath with the fingers folding on top.

Tell the client that the stick is stuck to his hands and that he cannot release it from their
hands try as hard as they will.

Suggest: “The stick is stuck to your hands. Try to throw it away from you but you cannot. Try,
try to throw it away … but you cannot!”

The subject’s attempt to release their hands and throw down the stick causes an exciting
drama. Try as they will they cannot release the stick until you state:

“Okay now … now your hands are relaxing their grip upon the stick and you can throw it
away from you!” The stick is tossed to the floor with a clatter!

Tongue fall out:

NOTES: -

➢ Make sure your client is sitting down


➢ Make sure your client WANTS to be hypnotised or the jokes on you!
➢ Have fun and do no harm.

First thing you say is “Can I hypnotise you?” you have to get them to agree that you can
hypnotise them.
If someone volunteers say to them “Wonderful! You’re going to be the star of the show
yes?” nod head up and down … they will say yes.

If they say no it’s not going to work!

Script (sit client down):

Stare at this spot in the middle of my forehead right here (point to your forehead and ensure your eyes
are looked with there’s) … just stare at that spot for a moment … the more your stare at that spot

the more you feel your body relaxing (remove hand from forehead) … and you notice that the
sound of my voice becomes more relaxing … focus on that (tap spot to your forehead) spot in the
centre of my forehead and as you do your entire body begins to relax and melt … the
muscles let go and you can feel the muscles in your face relaxing … your eyes becoming
heavier and heavier … as you focus (point to your forehead) on this spot your eyelids become so
heavy that every time you blink they become heavier and heavier … the fact the next time
they blink they will be three times as heavy … almost impossible to open as I count from five
down to one on the number one your eyelids will become so heavy they will be stuck shut …
the muscles in your face will melt … ready! … 5 … 4 relaxing more …3 … 2 and 1 (snap fingers)
your eyes are stuck shut they’re so heavy loose and limp in fact the more you try to open
them the more heavy loose limp and stuck shut they become … NOW TEST THEM SAY THIS WORD
FOR WORD MEMORISE IT … your entire body relaxing now when I touch you on the shoulder you

going to notice that your entire body goes loose and limp totally loose limp and relaxed your

muscles are just too heavy to move … ready … (touch shoulder) loose limp and relaxed feel your
body relaxing … now when I touch your arm your arm is going to become so heavy … so
loose limp and relaxed too heavy to lift … ready now … (touch arm) … you can feel your arm
getting heavier and now in a moment you can try to lift your arm just to prove to yourself
that it is indeed to heavy loose and limp to lift … go ahead and try to move that arm …relax
your arm even more when I touch it (touch arm) … now when I lift your arm it’s going to be
loose limp and heavy like a wet towel …ready … (lift arm … this confirms they are in trance). now focus
on the sound of my voice … focus on the sound of my voice you will hear everything that I
say … notice the tongue inside of your mouth … notice the way your tongue feels … as you
notice your tongue a funny thing happens … you begin to be aware of how big you tongue
feels inside of your mouth … the more you think about your tongue the bigger it feels inside
your mouth … the bigger it feels the bigger it actually grows feeling that it is pushing against
your teeth … pushing against the roof of your mouth … forcing your teeth to open slightly …
feeling it growing and pressing on the insides of your cheeks … in fact it is becoming so big its
filling your entire mouth … and in a moment when I ask you to open your mouth you’re
going to notice that your tongue has become so large and so long that it’s going to actually
fall out of your mouth when you try to talk … any words you try to say will be very difficult
because you tongue is simply too big for your mouth … falling out of your mouth … one the
count of 3 open your eyes … 1, 2 ,3 (snap fingers and don’t give them a break to stop and think about it …
immediately say something they need to think about that’s simple like “so what was your name again?” … “where

were you born?”) … your tongues going to become twice as big in a moment and fall out even
twice as far 1, 2, 3, (snap fingers) … enjoy the rest of the party :)

The key to these 3 scripts is practice, practice and practise some more. Ask to practice with a
friend and keep practicing till you nail it!

What is the difference between an instant induction and a rapid induction?

For starters they are both fast!

Instant inductions are when the hypnotist can induce a medium to deep trance within 1 – 5
seconds (this type of induction is rarely done in clinical settings it is still beneficial to learn in case your
client brings themselves out of trance due to load noises etc).

Rapid inductions such as Dave Elmans Induction technique is designed to take the client
from normal awareness to deep trance within about 4 minutes. Sometimes it can occur
within 15 -30 seconds. These are more commonly used in clinical settings.

Instant Induction:

WARNING: before performing instant inductions ensure that the client is fully open to
hypnosis.

This one can be conducted with the client either standing or sitting (as with all instant or rapid
inductions if your client is standing, as a safety precaution, you must always tell them in advance that at no
time will they fall, that they will remain standing even while in hypnosis).

Standing in front of your client ask them to close their eyes.

Ask them to extend their hands and arms outwards so you can shake them. As they do you
simply take their hands and shake it as in a greeting. Then gently tug their arm towards you
slightly while at the same time stating the word, “sleep”.

Be aware that if they are pulled too much off-balance that there is always the danger of
them falling. Be careful and ready to catch them if needed. (I suggest you practice this one whilst
sitting first).

Here is a Rapid Induction for you to practice:

As you progress through the numbers lower the tempo of your voice.

When you say “close down” you can place your hand in front of client’s eyes (about 5 – 7cm
away) and make a gesture moving your hand down (this isn’t necessary, but it is great for difficult to
relax clients)

Ensure client is looking up towards the roof by 20 degrees (Hakalua)

Now Begin to count: -

1. Close your eyes now but keep them in position.

2. Now slowly open them.

3. Closing your eyes now, noticing how comfortable it feels to let them rest.

4. Now slowly open them, continue to gaze at the spot.

5. Closing down easily and slowly while you listen to the sound of my voice.

6. Slowly open.

7. Closing down now, and very soon your eyelids will begin to feel very tired and heavy.

8. Nice and slowly open.

9. Just letting them close now, so comfortable, so heavy and relaxed.

10. Slowly open them and focus on that spot.

11. More and more heavy with each number now, that’s fine. More and more relaxed as
your eyes begin to feel so tired.

12. Softly and slowly opening them again now.

13. And closed, each time you open them it becomes more and more difficult. Heavier and
heavier.

14. Feel the heaviness in your eyelids as you open them now.

15. And let them close down. Your eyelids are getting heavier and heavier, more and more
tired with each number. That’s fine. As it becomes more comfortable to just keep them
closed you can allow yourself to keep them closed now.

16. And open… so heavy… so tired.

17. And close them down again. So comfortable and relaxed. As you listen to my voice your
eyelids are becoming heavier and heavier, more and more relaxed now. Heavy and heavy
with each number.

18. Feel the heaviness increasing now as you open them.

19. Let them close down again. Heavier and heavier now, so heavy, so tired, so relaxed,
that’s fine.

20. And open.

21. And closed. Your eyelids are so heavy now that as I continue to count it becomes
increasingly difficult to open your eyes, do not try to resist this, just feel their heaviness and
when it is more comfortable to keep your eyes closed, simply enjoy keeping them closed.
That’s fine.

22. And slowly open.

23. Now close them down, just let them rest for a moment and enjoy feeling your eyes
resting in their sockets, that’s fine. (Your client’s eyes should remain closed sometime between
numbers 10 and 15. Some clients will try to resist this and continue further, simply tell them that this is not
an exercise to see how long they can last, and they should allow their eyes to close when they feel
comfortable doing so. If their eyes still open on number 22 tell them to close them and keep them closed on
number 23. Then continue with the following.) Now that your eyes are closed, I would like you to

continue listening to the sound of my voice. Just continue to relax. In a few short moments
you will be so completely relaxed and comfortable. As you go into hypnosis you will still hear
my voice. You are still able to think thoughts, thoughts can be thought, but you do not have

to think them, as you listen to the sound of my voice. You are safe and secure here, safe to
relax completely, and no matter how deeply you go into hypnosis, my voice will go with you.
(insert convincer)

Just like all hypnosis techniques these are a matter of practice and confidence! If you are not
confident it will resonate in your body language to your client and they will doubt the
process works. Confidently fake being confident till your confident your confidence is
confident.

Unfortunately offering your services as a hypnotherapist is not enough these days. People
are always wanting more for their dollar.
Society is reducing what we buy more and more, marketing is forcing people into a
bargaining mindset. EG: If I pay cash can I have a discount, If I refer a friend do, I get a
percentage off?
I have had many different offers over the years.

So rather than just charging for a session you can add value to it.
EG: a client comes to you wanting assistance with sleep issues. You can give them a free
sleep hypnosis audio for them to listen to at night. This adds value to your service.

There are many different ways to add value:

➢ Hypnosis Audio Recording: As I said before you can give an audio to your client. This
helps your client to have resources to listen to at anytime they are feeling they are not
getting results (we all have those times).
➢ eBook: Why not write an eBook? We have a full course in the mentoring on how to
write one. You can give it to your client to read all about the subject that they are
coming to you for. Have hints and tips on ways they can help themselves outside your
service. You can even have the eBook available for sale on your web page or social
media but then give it away for free to your clients.
➢ Turn the eBook into an actual book. You can get some great small photo books from
vista print, Harvey Norman and Kmart. Get your eBook printed up (sell it online and in your
clinic) but give a copy away for free to clients when they sign up for your service.

➢ Product Samples. I have a mentoree that specialises in weight loss and sells weight
loss products. When a client comes in for the free consult and hasn’t signed up, she
gives them a sample of her product to try for a week. When they come back the first 3
months of the product is in with the sign up to her weight loss sessions.
➢ Vouchers and coupons: When I first started, I had nothing! No recordings, no money
to get anything, no knowledge on where to start with an eBook (let alone graphics etc to
make it look good) So I went to the local massage therapist and asked her about her

Hawaiian massage and if we could work out a deal together. It was a hit! My clients
signed up and she got more clients from the offer.
➢ Gifts: gifts don’t have to be expensive or large. In my personal packages now, I give
away bag of green tea. It may not seem like much, but many clients have given me
feedback saying after a few months they came across the tea bag, thought of me and
decided to take the hypnosis package.

I still remember how I used to try and sell my hypnosis to people. When I look back on it it
was the only way I knew how. I would tell them all about my awesome service, the results I
had and even the statistics.
I admit I got a couple of clients but mostly I got this:

➢ Questioned and wasn’t sure how to respond. Seriously it was verbal diarrhoea or
stuttering.
➢ Judged, sometimes so harshly I wouldn’t speak for hours as I felt humiliated.
➢ People that were “always going to book in”.
➢ People just wanting my services for free or at “mate’s rates”.
➢ Constant hits and blows to my self-esteem.
➢ Loss of friendships and clients.

One day I sat with my partner John and I said to him “I am the only common denominator in
all these instances. What is wrong with me?” then I had the lightbulb moment! There was
nothing wrong with me I just had to upgrade on how to book clients.
With so many people having issues in the world I was convinced I was going to go out there
and help heal it! The reality was many people would rather complain about the problem
then do something about it.
My grandfather once told me “if you can’t push the cow then pull it, it will always move!” he
was right! I had to work out how to get into the “rather complain about the problem” lane
and drive there!

Here’s how I did it:
1. Stop being the person that wants to heal the world. You
will heal many worlds! But only those that want to be
healed. This will also help save you from quitting. We
need you as a healer. There is so much toxicity in this
world that healers are swallowed up and spat out like
gum (never to be the same again). Start by healing those that
ask or a truly interested in what you do (bugger the rest!).

2. Offer a free consult. During the free consult you can


mirror your client and get into rapport with them. Ask
them questions and see if they are truly committed. You

It teaches you the 10 necessary NLP questions to ask to ensure your client is at cause
and committed to solving this problem. I have lost count of the amount of times I have
had clients come in for the free consult that say they are committed, and they truly
aren’t! If you take on these clients, they will spread negativity about hypnosis not
working (this then creates fear for others and severely hurts the industry).

3. Have a debit system in place. ALL my clients either pay up front or go on a debit
system. All sessions are paid for 1 week in advance with a no refund policy (just like
renting a house you are always paid in advance). Most people in this world are committed to
there money rather than their health. If your client is paying in cash, there is always
something that pops up (this is not a committed client!). Debit systems also put your clients
at cause. YES! YES! I can hear you saying some people can’t afford it (that’s why you have a
debit system and work out the payments. I have had many clients start payment plans then not start working
with me till 3 months later when most of it is paid). The debit system I recommend is called
EziDebit. You can google others and see which one works best for you.

4. Pre-book ALL sessions. Once your client has purchased their hypnosis program from
you pre-book all the sessions in yours and their diary. EG: the client is having 4
sessions for weight loss hypnosis. Pre-book it every Thursday at 2pm. Tell your client
you pre-book so that spot is permanently there’s (this shows you are committed to them and it’s
also great knowing your diary is filling up). Also inform them if they need to change it to give
you 24hours notice and if they need more sessions you will inform them as you go
through the program. You are the authority figure in this field and people don’t know
what’s good for them. It’s time to step up and be the leader your client needs you to
be.

Maintenance sessions:
You come to the end of your program with your client and it is looking like they may need
some support. The mind is a working machine (just like a car needs a service so too does the mind).
Offer to your client to continue the debit system for 10% discount to see them once a month
for maintenance sessions.

OR (this is what I do)


I give my client an offer of purchasing 3 sessions to use at any time in the next 12 months.
Give them a voucher (document it in your system). This gives many people peace of mind that you
will be there for them in the future and they can call on you regardless of financial situation.

There are many reasons to do this:


➢ Hard times are inevitable.
➢ Grief will strike (loved ones will get sick or pass away)
➢ Accidents happen!
➢ Trust can be betrayed
➢ Finances will change
If your client decides they don’t wish to purchase further sessions I do what I call “the white
knight sales technique”.

White knight syndrome is where people like to come in and save people whether they want
saving or not.
You have seen it yourself. Those people that are in relationships with drama queens (they have
white knight syndrome … it’s a way of feeling needed by saving someone from there drama … problem is you can take
the queen out of the drama, but you can’t take the drama out of the queen).

This is what I do.


Say to your client:
Who do they know could benefit from hypnosis?
Client will give you a name.
Create empathy & connection towards the person. Then proceed to write the person’s name
on your business card and ask your client.
Could you give X my card, so we can help them achieve the same success you have had?

The client will gratefully take the card and go on a quest to do this as you have made them
feel great!
This works on a few different layers:
1. It gives the white knight in that person a positive quest. Most people coming to you
are white knights. They are sick of the drama.
2. If you give the client a card and tell them “tell others about me” they will also be hit by
the people who would rather the complaint and lose their self-esteem. Don’t put your
client in that place. They are better off helping someone they know then people they
don’t.
3. Even if the client forgets to give the person the business card and finds the card one
day down the track, they will still complete that quest years later. Sure, they may not
give the card, but they will talk about it freely. Sometimes it even gets people to come
back for a maintenance session.
I have had many students over the years say, “I can’t afford to do a free consult”. I say you
can’t afford not to do a free consult. The people I have met over the years that I don’t have
the resources to help or I know I can’t help has really opened my eyes. I had one guy ring me
on the phone that sounded committed and great. He came in for the free consult with a tin
foil hat and I was convinced he was anorexic. After a long discussion he had something
bigger going on that needed medical assistance that he wasn’t willing to get. I informed him I
didn’t have enough training to help him and referred him to a physician. 2 weeks later he
contacted me saying he had been in the 4th dimension and would be travelling there
permanently soon.

Like I said, “you can’t afford not to do a free consult”. It can take as little as 15minutes.

Getting paid is essential to survival. Even I would love to give away my services for free and
heal many. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that if you have a mortgage or rent to pay.
I have had it all:
➢ Clients not showing
➢ Clients cancelling at the last minute
➢ Clients rescheduling
➢ Constantly running late
➢ Constantly “forgetting”

I have heard every excuse under the sun in my years in this industry.
➢ My kids in hospital (again? They were in hospital the last two times when you posted
them playing in the park on Facebook)
➢ A bill came in (really? Again? Who would’ve thought a bill would come in?)
➢ My partner borrowed money out of my purse
➢ My child threw my purse out the car window and I didn’t know (I told you I’ve
heard everything!)

I had one lady cancel an appointment with me telling me her father was on deaths door. A
week later she posted on Facebook a photo shoot of her dog she had on the same day she
was supposed to be in another country holding her fathers’ hand as he passed … hmmm …
that was the last straw for me. I put on my big girl panties and said, “I am a business woman
and these people need to be at cause … that is my job!”

How do you always get paid?
1. The client pays up front in full – If they choose this option, I offer them a 10% discount
(its amazing how many people can find the money when you offer a small discount)

2. Have a debit system. I use a company called Ezidebit (no I’m not an affiliate for them I
recommend it cause it’s a great system). Debit systems are legally binding and look
professional when your setup the client’s payments. The client will feel committed to
the system upon signing (and they get a copy of the form). You set and forget. You will get
paid and if a client’s payment doesn’t go through you will receive and email about it,
so you can act. You can lodge forms digitally on your pc, table or mobile. It’s only a
small monthly fee.

There are many debit systems available these days. You can even do it through PayPal. Jump
on google and look up one that may suit you, your budget and ease of use.

It’s time for you to get paid!

When I first started, I didn’t have all the fancy programs I have now, but I also wanted
something that wasn’t the “run of the mill”.
I wanted to be different but didn’t have the dollars (and some programs wanted many dollars).

Let’s start with referral systems.

Referral systems can make a business. Whether it is referral from a friend, family member,
professional or business body. Working with a referral can be highly valuable.
When in search for a referral ensure the following:

➢ They are a professional (not all professionals are professional)


➢ Research there training and registrations.
➢ Ensure you want to represent them. They reflect your service.
➢ Keep the referral system simple.
➢ Follow through! And do the upkeep (if you are using me as a referral and you won’t
update the criteria or follow through with the responsibilities, I won’t be onboard)

➢ When working locally find people within a 10-15minute drive from you if
possible.
➢ Find a referral you enjoy working with.

Ethics:

The ethics for hypnosis is simple. Do no harm.

You are being trained to use words, metaphors and language.

Like Tim Minchin sings “Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can break
hearts!”. Whether you are one stage, one the street or in a clinic. Number 1 priority is the
safety of your client. Do no harm.

Confidentiality is a must. Your client is coming to you with a problem. You are bound by the

When creating CBT’s stick to the smart goal code.

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Achievable

R – Realistic

T – Time

Cover all these bases and set your client up for success.

Which brings me to fallacies.

A fallacy is a mistaken belief based on unsound argument. You are going to come across
many clients that have very limiting beliefs that have no evidence behind them. When
dealing with fallacies ensure that you are in rapport with your client and that you pace, pace
lead them. Some clients will fight tooth and nail for a belief whether it is healthy or not. If
you find a client is frustrating or causing you any limiting beliefs refer them on. You are out
of rapport with them and doing harm (remember ethics rule number 1 above all DO NO HARM).

Some Fallacies about Hypnosis:


It is also important to know some fallacies and facts about hypnosis so when the questions
come in you can inform clients and potential clients of mis information. We have all heard
the “you’re not going to make me cluck like a chicken, are you?” statement.

Many clients only know of hypnosis based on what the movies have told them. Are you
aware that crime scenes do not draw lines around bodies (this was made up in the movies yet we
associate with it as if it was true) Same for pirates, A movie produced by Disney in 1950 named

“treasure island” was played by Robert Newton who used an accent and dropped “ARR” into

his speech quite frequently created this one. 2 years later he played another pirate movie
and did the same thing that set off the pirate “arrr” stigma we know of today.

Here are some facts and fallacies to become aware of to help educate people as you meet
them on this journey:

➢ Definition of hypnosis: Hypnosis is a level of relaxation between waking and sleeping in


which the critical faculty is bypassed and allows communication to our unconscious
mind.

➢ All hypnosis is self-hypnosis: You are just a guide. The client chooses to follow the
instructions to facilitate benefits.

➢ Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state: Everyone passes through hypnosis every day.
Daydreaming, falling asleep, talking to ourselves … it’s all self-hypnosis.

➢ Control: The client is always in control. As a hypnotist I cannot make you do anything
you don’t want to do. Suggestions will not work against your morals or good
judgement.

➢ Hypnosis is not sleep: It’s the stage between awake and asleep.

➢ You will never get stuck or trapped in hypnosis: Worst case scenario is that you go to
sleep. You’ve always managed to wake yourself up from sleep, haven’t you?

Fallacy: “What if I reveal secrets to you?”

Fact: You are in control. Hypnosis is not a “truth serum” if it was, I would be working for the
army or the FBI!

Fallacy: “I can be told anything under hypnosis and believe it”

Fact: there’s no connection between hypnosis and gullibility

Fallacy: “your going to make me cluck like a chicken?”

Fact: If I had that level of mind control why would I bother with the chicken? I’d make you go
to the bank get all your money out, come give it to me and forget everything. You wouldn’t
even know I existed.

Ensure that you educate people about hypnosis. Many times, I will do this in the free consult
or when I’m out socialising and people ask me what I do.

The best part about these days and the internet is that your webpage and social media are
highly effective tools. I will go into social media more in the next module (and how to use NLP to
get it up and running).

So realistically do you need a web page?

No … launch without a webpage!

BUT …

➢ It makes it easier for people to navigate what you offer

➢ They can relate to who you are

➢ Shows a level of quality to expect from you

➢ Is great advertising without you having to be present

➢ Shows various ways to make contact

➢ Purchase Items and Products (make money whilst you sleep)

➢ People are surfing the web!

➢ People are looking at google reviews for feedback

Your webpage doesn’t have to be expensive with flashy things popping up all the time. But
also ensure that its not cheap and out dated looking.

The part where most people get confused is the jargon like SEOs, CTR,s and integrations.
An SEO is a search engine optimisation. If you choose to use square space this is
automatically done for you.
CTR’s are click through rates. How many people are clicking on your links and following
through with the purchase. Squarespace automatically documents this for you.
Integrations is where you can link up things like social media to your page and guess what …
square space does this for you.
There are many other cheaper pages like wix and weebly however you will also need to
purchase a program to stop spams and create information security (square space automatically
does that for you). You will also find that the cheaper pages also have a slow rate in which

clients can download your products, videos, freebies and offers (this is how they cut the cost
down).

EG: you have a video you would like your client to watch to inform them of your service. The
video would sit loading … then play for a little bit … then pause whilst is loaded.

With people’s patience if something doesn’t work instantly, they will leave the page and go
elsewhere (this is known as the bounce).

Google is dominating the research market. They have now introduced algorithms that will
scan and assess page content, graphic quality, site relevance, ease of use and feedback. The
less time people spend on your website and the longer it takes to load the lower google will
rate it.

What does this mean?

When a client is typing what they are looking for into google, google will recommend pages.
First by ones that pay to be advertised and second by those that have good ratings and
algorithms. If your page has a low rating it will be shown on page 3, 4, 5 etc on the google
search. Over 70% of the population don’t go past the first page of a google search. You want
your web page on the first page of google with great ratings.
Google introduced this to “clean up” the internet and slow down so many spammy and mis

leading pages (I completely agree with it. How many times have you searched for something then clicked
on a webpage and it had nothing to do with what you are looking for!).

Most children are educated in school how to create a webpage these days, this is a growing
network and the way of the future.

I highly recommend saving a few dollars and getting a square space page up and running.
Getting the right page and host straight off the bat can save you a lot of heartache later
down the track as your business grows. It doesn’t matter is you go with square space and it
looks terrible at the start (geez mine was shocking till I learnt more as time went on and I’m positive I’ll
change it more in the future).

Now this module isn’t about how-to setup your Facebook or Instagram bla bla bla. This
module is about how to use your NLP skills to help your social media grow.
When it comes to social media statistics show that people would rather watch a funny video
then an educational one. When it comes to your social media it can be difficult creating
funny posts when working in the mental health area.

Here are some hints and tips.

1. Always use pictures or videos. You have to attract people’s attention with colour and
interests. Most people are just scrolling like robots on social media. If you can catch
their eye with an image or video it will stop the scroll and engage them.

2. You want people to give you a like, heart, share, tag or a comment (share and tag is the
most powerful). This also must be done voluntarily and only content that interests

people will get the share or tag.

3. Stop being preachy! Its so easy to use NLP and create posts like “What are your goals

for 2019?” lighten up! Social media is about brand awareness. If the person becomes a
client that’s a bonus. Your webpage is about getting clients. Use your social media to
get people to go to your webpage. Create brand awareness by getting people to
interact with your posts. I only place an advertising on my page once a week. Monday
– Friday its all about getting people to interact, Saturday is advertising and Sunday I
don’t post (unless I feel like it).

4. Ways to get people to interact with your posts:
➢ Place an image asking, “which chocolate bar would you choose?”
➢ Post videos of recipes.
➢ Go live and talk to people. Interact with them. Ask them questions and
wait for the answer.
➢ Show examples of your work.
➢ Tell me in the form of a “gif” what job you do, and I’ll guess it.
➢ Ask for advice (people will want to help an authority figure) “I just finished
watching arrow on Netflix. What do you recommend I watch next?” (even
if the answer doesn’t interest you engage with the person and ask, “what’s that
about?” … this gets more comments and reach. I once asked people to give me ideas
for names for my cat. It went off chops! I couldn’t keep up with the comments.)

➢ Keep your shit off Facebook. If your having issues in your life seek
guidance. I understand your not a super hero but don’t leave yourself
open for judgement of randoms. People are watching!
➢ Do a journey series. Do posts each day based on a personal journey you
are on and what you are going through. People will watch the progress,
interact and band together with ideas, comments and shares. Some will
even take the journey with you as you have inspired them, and you won’t
even know.
➢ Use your NLP skills to create fun or brain hurting statements. EG: Which
came first the egg or the chicken? Is Queue just a letter “Q” followed by 4
silent letters? Simply google sentences that hurt the brain.
➢ Make people laugh, smile or cry. These will get shares and comments.
Connect with your audience.

each post place your logo/webpage and people will generate towards it if interested. Your
webpage is where people can get more information, book appointments and buy from you.

steamy room.... and as you lie there.... relaxed, breathing gently in and out... nothing to think
about... nothing to do.... just letting go... you can close those eyes and imagine it if you want
to imagine... arms and legs.... comfortable... floppy... your head supported... eyes closed....
eyes relaxing, face smoothing, muscles easing and softening.... a feeling, a heaviness in your
arms and legs.... as if they are sinking down into the cushion.... and then a feeling of
floating.... held safely and securely... as if you were sinking down and down into a wonderful
soft luxurious bed.... totally relaxed.... just letting go.... allowing your thoughts to drift
away.... nothing to do... nothing to think about... just enjoying that relaxation... and as you
relax every breath relaxes you more.... as your mind drifts deeper... and you can enjoy that

and you can see how things change.... and can you can make them change.... and how
everything depends on how you look at it.... one thing blends into another thing.... doesn't
it.... and really... putting some distance between yourself and a situation might give you the
chance for a different perspective... you can think about possibilities.... and give yourself all
the space you need... room to move.... to stretch.... to grow.... to enjoy a feeling of lightness

you breathe out (exhale sound) let all thoughts go. Just focusing on your breathing. (Inhale
slowly then exhale slowly) You keep doing this breathing motion, allowing yourself to relax and
drift deeper and deeper into a blissful state relaxation so that you can heal yourself.
Breathing in slowly now (inhale)…............ then out slowly (exhale) …...............breathing in
deeply and slowly (inhale) …......... then out slowly (exhale). When you want to sleep you can
first relax your body like you've done today, bit by bit, just think about relaxing each part of
your body. Starting from your toes allow the toes to relax, …... your feet and ankles begin to
loosen … the relaxation goes up over your shins, your knees and thighs … generating slowly
over your waist and chest … feel every inch of your chest letting go and sinking deeper and
deeper into calm and blissful sleep, Every muscle every nerve and every fibre in your body

peaceful … very … very ... relaxed. Now you feel the relaxation moving over your chest and
into your shoulders overflowing your shoulders … covering the front as well as the back …
slowly the relaxation flows over your arms all the way down to your fingertips … the
relaxation floats softly and calmly over your elbows … across your wrists ... to the hands …

secure to completely drift off and dream. Dream a wonderful dream that will allow you to
become refreshed and recharged … allowing you to let go of all the worries and stresses. As

takes away all your thoughts, so you can drift and dream … it heals your mind, so you can
become refreshed and recharged. As the weight of your thoughts gets lighter and lighter you
sleep deeper and deeper. Sinking deeply into your pillow … your pillow … your pillow that's
always there to comfort and support you. This wonderful magical pillow helps you rest and

Sit back, relax and slowly close your eyes. As you close your eyes you can feel yourself
beginning to enjoy the feeling of relaxation. Slowly breathing in (make soft inhale sound in
time with client) … then slowly breathing out (soft exhale sound in time with client) … and
again … slowly breathing in (example as before) and slowly breathing out (example as
before) … letting go of all your thoughts with every breath you take. Continuing now to
breathe deeply and slowly …. in … very slowly (soft inhale sound with slow pacing) and out
(soft exhale with slow pacing) even slower now. In front of you now is a small speck of light.
This is a relaxing ... calm light. Like a star that’s far off into the distance. Only this light is so
close that you feel you could just reach out and touch it. And why not do that? See yourself
reaching out slowly and touching the tiny speck of light. This beautiful glittering speck of
light. As you do the tiny speck of light dances softly on the tip of your finger. Glistening and
glowing away, this light makes you feel calm, peaceful and very very relaxed. You begin to
notice now this calming relaxing soft light beginning to create a healing glow. This healing
glow is so relaxing to watch. The glow begins covering your fingers. As you feel every finger
relaxing more and more and more … as this light … the light of relaxation softly covers your
hands and drifts all the way up to your elbows. Relaxing every muscle, every nerve and every
fibre as it travels slowly ... up your arms and to your shoulders. Your arms become very very
heavy. So, heavy you don't feel like moving them. And that doesn't matter right now. All that
matters is letting go and relaxing deeper and deeper and even deeper. As this healing,
glowing soft light envelopes your shoulders. Taking away all the worries from your shoulders.

Really feel your shoulders beginning to relax as you go deeper and deeper and even deeper
now. Calm, peaceful, very very relaxed. This relaxing light flows slowly over your entire back.
Your back gets so tense. But now you feel every muscle and every fibre in your back
loosening and relaxing. Letting go of all the tension in your back. As this wonderful healing
light travels now … over your hips and your bottom … drifting down the backs of your
thighs, flowing into the backs of your knees, all the way down, that's right! all the way down
to your ankles … your ankles are loosening, and the relaxing light continues all the way down
to your toes. Feel every toe just relaxing as you drift down deeper and deeper and even
deeper, very good. Find yourself really enjoying this relaxing feeling that's coming over you.
Giving yourself the permission ... to relax. The light now comes back up the fronts of your
legs, relaxing all the muscle fibres in the shins, flowing softly over your knees, over the thighs
and into your hips. Your legs become heavier and heavier as you drift deeper and deep …
and even deeper into blissful relaxation. Your whole body is going to butter like it has been
left out on a warm summer day. This wonderfully relaxing healing light now covers your
stomach and chest area. Relaxing every muscle, every fibre, and every system in your
stomach and chest area. Feel yourself sinking deeper and deeper into this healing relaxing
light...... As it now travels slowly and softly up the front of your chest and into your neck.
This light is relaxing every fibre and every muscle in your neck. Relaxing every muscle so you
can truly drift deeper and deeper. As the muscles in your neck relax the light begins to softly
touch your face. It’s comforting to know that your drifting deeper and deeper into blissful
relaxation. A place of happiness and content. The light begins to touch your face now. You
can feel it softly touching your mouth and lips sending all the muscles into blissful relaxation.
This healing light spreads to your cheeks and behind the ears relaxing every nerve and every
fibre ... Now your eyelids seem to become very ... very heavy … so heavy you don't seem to
want to open them. That's ok just let yourself drift away into blissful relaxation. As the light
… the light of relaxation touches your forehead and smooths away all the little lines. Letting
go of all the tension. Feel this light of relaxation sending you deeper …. and deeper …. and
even deeper. Very good. Even deeper now. The light now begins to flow over the crown of
your head. Relaxing every muscle... every nerve.... and every fibre in the crown of your head
and all the way through your body. And as you are their …. so comfortable and so deeply
relaxed.
And now as I count down from 10 to 1. You find yourself listening to my voice. As each
number, I count down you drift deeper, deeper and even deeper into blissful relaxation.

You are feeling more and more relaxed and comfortable. Allow your body to relax and your
mind to be calm. As you breathe slowly. You are in a wonderful state of mind and you find it
easy and effortless to deal with this problem today. Your mind is open and receptive to my
suggestions and to each word I say. As you are only listening to the sound of my voice and
the sound of my voice only.
(METAPHOR 1 OPEN)
I know you are wondering and it’s a good thing to wonder, as you find yourself in the
comfort of your own home. You imagine you are in the kitchen. Picture the kitchen area right
now, exactly how you know it will be, and feel the comfort of your own home. All the items
are on the bench tops where they are supposed to be. You can see your cooking area, notice
the colour of the bench tops now, then the colour of the walls appear. Slowly every inch of
your kitchen comes to life EXACTLY how you know it is. As you stop for a moment with the
comfort of this place you suddenly realise that this is the area in which there is always
something to do. It’s like this area never just switches off and is done. This area always has
something niggling away at you or a demand to be met. Yet you know these demands are
what you create for yourself and the standards in which you choose to live. As you stand in
this area thinking about the standards of living you hear a drip … drip … drip … sound. You
stop momentarily. Engage your listening skills and zone in on the drip … drip … drip. It’s a
steady drip … slow but steady. You make you way to the sink. Open the cupboard beneath
the sink as the water over flows all over your feet and you find yourself

enjoying the cool water of the swimming pool. It washes over your toes and relaxes you
more and more. The coolness of the water entices you to take a seat on the edge of the pool
and place your legs into the water. It’s a warm sunny day. The sun is making the temperature

just perfect to go for a swim. You large brimmed hat is protecting you from the sun’s rays
whilst you can still enjoy the warm. Breathing deeply, it allows you to relax and just enjoy
yourself. You swing your legs back and forth softly in the water. The gentle water massages
your muscles as it swirls around and around. The cooling water swirls and massages your leg
muscles, relaxing your ankles and toes. Everything relaxes in this perfect place to let all
negative thoughts go a switch to the positive. The relaxing positive. Absorbing all the warm
rays of the sun whilst massaging your legs with the cool swirling water. You decide to slip
into the water at the shallow end and just wade in the cool cleansing water. The swirling
water begins to massage and relax ALL the muscles in your body. Relaxing the back,
shoulders, hips and thighs. You can relax as you switch off and rely on your natural instincts.
(METAPHOR 3 OPEN)
You know the natural instincts of wild animals allow them to eat happily and it’s a good thing
to do this. You also know that the animals in the wild are not obese as they rely on their
natural instincts to stay healthy and alive. It’s very easy to do … and you can do it to … can’t
you? These natural instincts come from the wild animal’s mind and body being in sync with
each other. That means as the wild animal searches for its food it knows to have enough to
be satisfied and that the hunger will never bother them as they have switched it off, so they
can enjoy other activities. They can be healthy and free of all burdens. All the animals, every
single animal on the earth is free of any un necessary worries. The wild animals hunger only
sets in when they truly need to refuel. You can learn that the natural instincts allow them to
distinguish between true hunger and pretend hunger. Recognise that it is easier and easier
to learn to rely on your natural instincts. As you imagine yourself now going back to a time
when you relied on your natural instincts. When your mind and body worked together for a
greater cause. In front of you now you see an old wooden table. This table has had many
sittings at it over its time and has many stories to tell. At one end of the table is a blue glass.
Sitting still all on its own. You observe the glass wondering why just one glass would be
sitting one such a large old table. As you look around you notice on the glass it has a label
that says, “all-natural juice” and it has a small amount of blue liquid inside it. Then suddenly
at the other end of the table a red glass appears. You walk around the table to the red glass
and it is labelled “full bodied goodness” and it also has a small amount of liquid in it. You
take a glass in each hand and decide to mix the two liquids together and make your own
wonderful drink named “all-natural full drink” this wonderful liquid ... you find yourself
feeling refreshed and satisfied. It’s all natural after all and naturally you feel full drinking such
a small amount.

mmmmm … that all-natural full drink was so delicious. You feel healthier and healthier both
on the inside and out. The natural instincts between the body and mind are working again.
Now you find yourself sharing this skill because you know you can use this natural skill to
stay healthy. You can feel it! It just makes sense. When you learn that the mind and the
body work as one, they can achieve wonderful new things. Can’t they?! Yes, they can! As a
team, they can ripple into other areas and achievements. You've got this, haven't you? A
man once quoted that henry ford had said “whether you think you can or think you can’t,
you're right” and you know you can! You've learnt that you can … create pride and
accomplishment. This accomplishment relaxes you. And the sense of pride washes over
every muscle.

relaxing every muscle. As the cleansing water swirls, around on your skin. Refreshing and
rejuvenating. The sun is beginning to set in the distance. As the temperature begins to get
cool and the water changes as well. You feel totally full and recharged now. As you stand in
the water and slowly come out. The water washes away back into the pool taking with it
everything you don't need. Switching you to the positive. Your body feels wonderful and it is
sending you messages as a greater whole. Listening to your body has always been the right

and you notice under the sink is a small leaking pipe. You've caught this small leak in time to
know there is no damage to the surrounding areas. Your smart wit tells you it’s time to call
the plumber and get this fixed whilst its only small. The phone helps you make the correct
connection to the right person. As you ring the plumber the phone is answered by a very
friendly voice. “hello how may I … solve this problem today” says the plumber at the other
end. You advise them the pipe under the sink has a small leak and ask how quickly they could
look at it, so no further damage is done.
This plumber is efficient and tells you “I will be there right away and … the problem is gone”
after exchanging details. The plumber asks that you go to the main water tap in the yard and
switch it off as to not cause further damage and overflow. You are learning to do this easily
and naturally. Finding the main water tap you switch it off.

Once the plumber arrives you ask, “is there any way I could fix this leak as I love to learn new
things”. This wonderful plumber in honoured you have asked for some advice. Educating you
that the leak wasn't that bad and all you needed was some of these all-natural products you
can fill the hole yourself with a small amount.

The plumber patiently demonstrates what is required and how to easily fix it yourself. You
begin your task of using a small amount of product to fill the hole where the leak was
occurring from. You can relax knowing that this problem is now gone, and you did it!!!

I wonder if you can imagine a tall building ... a skyscraper somewhere ... change the scenery
to night time … the building has ten floors … each floor is lit up with lights … glowing … with
each breath out ... you count aloud from ten down to one ... and 10 (breathing out) … and
with each breath out ... one floor of that building goes dark ... from the top down … that’s
right keep counting down slowly ... and as you breathe out ... a floor goes dark ... those
numbers begin to disappear until you just can't find the next number ... and each breath out
takes you down and down ... deeper and deeper ... darker and darker ... that's good (ensure
your client is down to 1 or drifted away by this stage. If not keep telling them to count down.) … excellent!

(CONVINCER)
I would like you now to pay attention to the little muscles that control your eyelids.... those
tiny muscles can become so relaxed that you just won't be able to open your eyes... you just
can't open those eyes.... and when you are sure that those muscles are so relaxed that you
just cannot open your eyes.... it is as if they are glued together... totally stuck shut... you can
try to open them, but you will find that they just won't work... they just don't open.
[movement of eyebrows] That's right. And that is showing you that part of your mind can be
awake and alert while another part of your mind goes deeply, deeply into trance. That's
good.... and that shows you the power of your mind. Maybe you tell yourself you can't be
bothered opening them.... maybe you just don't want to... maybe you can't... doesn't
matter...

there are many ways of getting to the result that you want ... it just shows you the power of
your mind ... you can use that power to change things ... to imagine things ... allow your mind
to roam free and think of things you haven't thought of for a long time ... this is evidence
that you can do whatever you want to do ... it means you can control parts of your body that
you are not even aware of ... like the beating of your heart … the movement of your body …
and you can control parts of your mind you are not aware of ... and if you truly want to lose
weight then you can give yourself that permission now ... decide that the time is now ... from
this moment on, you are going to enjoy that feeling ... of control ... you already know what to
do ... and because you have a natural ability inside of you to choose to change ...
(METAPHOR 2 OPEN)
Now just allow your mind to clear ... I wonder if you can imagine a room ... with two mirrors
... side by side ... step in front of one mirror ... it’s an old mirror ... with an old frame and a
hazy reflection … in that old mirror you can see yourself as you are now ... really look at
yourself honestly ... and ask yourself, is that honestly how you planned it? How you want to
go through life? Do you deserve something better? and looking in the background ... behind
you in that mirror ... stretching back behind ... you can see a lot of old stuff ... all the old stuff
that is keeping you like this ... go to the other mirror ... it’s a new mirror ... step away from
that first mirror, the old mirror, and look into this new mirror ... in this new mirror you see
yourself ... a few weeks or months from now ... you see someone who is healthy, lighter, …
exactly the way you want to be ... you can see yourself in that mirror ... your own body ...
your own shape … notice the way you are dressed and that proud look on your face … Im
going to leave you for a few moments to enjoy that image (go quiet for 30seconds) … look at
every part of that new you ... you want that body ... you want to get in shape and stay in
shape …
(METAPHOR 3 OPEN)
Go to the old mirror and into the background … you can see/feel and hear old things … all
those old things that are keeping you like this … things people said … things done to you …
negativity carried … a lot of old stuff that you just don’t need anymore … place your hands
on the sides of the mirror and turn it so it faces the wall … no longer can it reflect the old
you! … things are different now … those old ideas are fading into darkness ... and the mirror
can also fade into the darkness … blend into the wall so it can never reflect again … imagine
walking away from that ... towards the bright new mirror... when you look into that new
mirror ... you might be surprised with who or what is missing … imagine that you can step
into that new mirror ... right through that mirror and out the other side ... this is the future
and it is a bright and wonderful place … take a moment to enjoy the future … (Insert direct
suggestion as agreed upon with client … some examples are also available in dot point)

You are going to become the person in that mirror … you will have that pride, that look …
think about how that look makes you feel … getting up in the morning and feeling healthy

that from this day forward you are stepping one step to healthy with every step you do …
