67 Meter Slip Forming Chimney

Greenfield Wastewater Treatment and Water
Recycling Facility, Doha North, Qatar
Slip Forming Chimney
by J.P. du Plessis, Sika Gulf B.S.C.

Description of the Project

Keppel Seghers Corporation was awarded a design-build-operate con-
tract for the construction of the $1.5 billion Doha North waster water
treatment plant. HBK construction was appointed main contractor.

The Doha North facility is expected to be operational in 2010.

It has a design capacity of 439,000 m3 per day and will represent the
largest waste water treatment/water recycling facility in the Middle
East region.
The plant will serve the requirements of over 900,000 people when
fully operational and the treated water will be utilized for soil irrigation.

Sikament ®-600N combined with Plastiment VZ-D was

chosen to give the necessary concrete properties required for the slip
forming rate of 130 mm/hour at an ambient temperature of 45C.

Slipformed Concrete
In the slipforming method, the formwork is moved continuously in sync Workability

wall. The hydraulic lifting jack raises the formwork by 10 to 30 cm per Note in particular that

Slipforming is quick and efficient. The method is particularly suitable for
simple, consistent ground plans and high structures such as:

 Tower and chimney structures Sika Solutions
