The thesis titled “ “Simulation and Analysis of Wide Band Cognitive Radio Architecture with Enhanced

LNA Balancing and Improved Image Rejection” reports the results on the design and simulation of image
reject receiver with reduced mismatches in amplitude and gain to improve the image rejection ratio and
other performance metrics.

Chapter -1

Section 1.1 Receiver architecture

Types of receiver architectures needs to be mentioned ( only reference is given) and then say the
following line
“the quadrature architecture being most prospective architecture with wide application
potential in future communication systems.”

Section 1.10

Consider rewriting the title (1:10) as only Aim and objectives of the thesis as the title is finalized ( need
not propose )

Section 1.3
Microwave application demands a double balanced mixer ( refer section 1.2.4)

What is image frequency needs to be explained. In case of image rejection, the balance ( should
be imbalance or mismatch ) in amplitude and phase can be corrected using analog and digital
techniques. Correction to be done wherever required.

Chapter -2

Figure 2.5- requires subfigure naming or may redrawn to make it look like single figure

Chapter-3
The architectures (Figures ) for image rejection should show RF + image frequency as input. In
simulation setup it can be either with RF+Image frequency or simply it can be simulated with image
frequency to see its elimination. What is the image frequency used for the simulation?

Chapter- 5

Why such a wide band antenna is required when the bandwidths of other components in the receiver
are limited?

Chapter-7

Conclusion can discuss on the results, original contributions and derive the overall specifications of the
receiver. Questions can be avoided in the concluding in the concluding remarks.
General suggestions:

Few figures with multiple curves, the legends are missing .

The thesis has to be reviewed for some typos and grammatical errors ( e.g. Page 47 -- archit4jjecture,
page -27 This chapter highlights in the fundamental RF )
1‐dB or 1 dB ( uniform convention to be used)

The following question needs to be answered by the candidate at the time of deference

The receiver’s band width is limited by LNA (it has the least bandwidth). The antenna designed is a
wideband antenna which from a system point of view may not be necessary. If the antenna bandwidth is
retuned to match the bandwidth of the component that has the least bandwidth in the system, how
much improvement will be seen for the various performance metrics calculated or simulated?.
