Abstract
The vital focus of this paper is on analyzing the overall organizational activities of Berger Paints
Bangladesh Limited (BPBL), Sylhet Office during the current pandemic COVID-19. It highlights
the chanllenges and problems that BPBL has been facing since the pandemic had been started in
Bangladesh. It also discusses how Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited (BPBL), Sylhet Office are
dealing with their employees both physically and mentally during the pandemic.

Introduction
COVID-19 pandemic is the current problem that every human in the part of world have been
suffering since it spread globally. It denies national borders that has created a worldwide health as
well as financial crisis. Most of the countries in the world have been affected by this pandemic.
For this pandemic, many organizations shut down their businesses for ensuring the safety of their
top employees to lower workers. Berger Paints is one of the reputed multi-national organizations
in Bangladesh. During this pandemic, it is too tough for them to control all the things properly as
they did before appearing corona virus in Bangladesh. To improve the productivity of their
organization again, employee safety and environmental hygiene are the main concern for them in
recent time.

Objective of the Study


The main obejective of this assignment is to identidy the challenge and problem that Berger Paints
Bangladesh Limited (BPBL), Sylhet Office are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also
discuss to mention how BPBL, Sylhet Office are dealing with their employees as well as low level
workers. I hope, this assignment will help readers to understand the overall business strategy that
is taken by BPBL, Sylhet Office to ensure the safety of their top management employees to lower
level management.

Methodology of the Study


1. Sources of Collected Data
I have used both primary and secondary sources of data in order to complete my assignment.
A. Primary Sources includes:
- Face to face conversation with Chief Accountant Officer of BPBL Sylhet Office,
labors, drivers, security guards.
- Personal observation.
B. Secondary Sources includes:
- Website of BPBL and Related online news published in internet.

2. Limitation
I do not have direct involvement with BPBL Sylhet Office neither economic perspective nor
business perspective. As an outsider, BPBP Sylhet Office did not provide me detailed
information about their sales percentage, inside strategy etc. For that reason, I was unable to
mention how much sales (in percentage) was dropped during COVID-19 pandemic in figure.

Sylhet Office in COVID-19 Pandemic
Since the virus has been spreading exponentially all over the world, even the developed countries
have been unable to contain it. As a result, people are dying in the affected areas at an alarming
rate. This global pandemic has heavily impacted on so many organizational’s business activities
that has created some challenges for them to reformulate their strategies in order to tackle it. At
first, I am going to discussed some problems that Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited (BPBL) has
been facing during the time of COVID-19 pandemic. These are discussed below:
❖ Problems of COVID-19 in Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited (BPBL), Sylhet Office:
1. Interrupt on Daily Organizational Activities: Due to general holiday which was
announced by Government, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited closed down all their
factories and offices across Bangladesh for COVID-19 scare. For that reason, they could
not operate their organizational task physically at office rather they have been doing it from
their home.
2. Monitor Employee Task: It is quite difficult to monitor employee’s task from home,
because there are some factors that interrupt organizational task such as load shedding,
internet connection difficulties etc.
3. Dealer: COVID-19 pandemic heavily affected on daily business activities of BPBL’s
dealers. They are the key factors of BPBL to distribute their product to customer. The
nationwide dealer network supported by sales depots strategically located at various
districts which enabled them to strategically cater to all parts of the country. Dealers of
Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited could not able to reopen their business in this pandemic.

Now, I will mention some challenges that Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited have been facing
during the COVID-19 pandemic. This are explained below:
❖ Challenges of COVID-19 in Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited (BPBL), Sylhet Office:
1. Employee and Worker Safety: Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited reopen their business
operation from 11 April 2020 on a limited scale. This is one of the toughest challenges for
BPBL to have appropriate information about the health condition of their employees and
workers. If any employee or worker feels unhealty during the work time, it may create
worse condition in their environment. If any of them contains corona virus desease, then
other employee, workers, guards might be affected from this.
2. Deals with Customer: It would be hard for the employee of BPBL to communicate with
the customer after COVID-19 pandemic. Because, they might feel unsafe to interact with
customer because of the panic of coronoa virus.

As per government instruction, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited closed down all their factories
and offices from 26 March 2020 to 9 April 2020 all country. When government announced that
organizations can operation their business on a limited scale and have to follow health guideline
which is prescribed by World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, Berger Paints Bangladesh
Limited, Sylhet Office reopened their businesses from 11 April 2020 and have taken the following
points in order to make sure the safety of their employees and workers:
1. Preventive Measure: Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, Sylhet Office has implemented
some guidelines to prevent COVID-19. These are given below:
A. Before entering the office field of BPBL, security guards first measure temperature of
employees and workers by thermography device. In addition, BPBL instruct their
employees and workers to clean their hands frequently, using hand senitizer at least 20
seconds before and after the work.
B. Every employee and worker must wear mask and gloves all the time. Mask should fit
properly, completely covering the face from bridge of nose to chin.
C. BPBL instruct their employee to wipe out surfaces (desk, table) and object (keyboard,
mouse) with disinfictant regularly before starting their work. Because contamination on
surfaces tounched by employees is one of the main ways that COVID-19 spreads.
D. They displayed posters in office areas that are promoting respiratory hygiene.
2. Work from Home: BPBL enforced a split-team and work-from-home arrangements for their
employees whose role does not require their physical presence in the office.
3. No Plan for Salary Cut: As uncertainty over pay and job security is looming large over the
country because of the Covid-19 lockdown, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited ensured their
employees and workers that they have no plan for salary cuts. They also stated that there will
be no impact of the crisis on new recruitment offers.
4. Working Time Limit: BPBL limits their working time from 10 AM to 2 PM for the safety of
both employees and workers.
5. Restrictions on Business Travels and Meeting: All business travel is restricte unless
critically essential. They have also prohibited the participation in physical meeting, conference
in the office rather they do their business meeting with the help various cloud meeting apps
such as Microsoft Team, Skype, Zoom etc.

Conclusion
We do not know when the COVID-19 is over. The economic impact is unprecedented during this
pandemic and future is uncertain. Whatever strategy they take to ensure the safety of their
employees, they might be covered what they lost for COVID-19 pandemic. It’s true that Berger
paints is very prominent in the market because of its high-quality products, competitive price rate
etc. They key competitors gradually grow up in the market through their vast credit policy. With
world class range and durability, Berger is always ready to answer to all weather condition and try
to satisfy every corner of the country.
