SABATA
Today, we are glad to have amongst us, our honourable guest for the
day - Dr BC Sabata. Before completing his PhD in Botany in 1989,
from Behrampur University, He also did MSc, BSc and MPhil in
Botany. He completed his MBA on disaster management in 2007
from I.P. University.
He was a Research fellow and scientific assistant in the Botanical
Survey of India, from 1985-1992. He then worked at the J.N. College,
Arunachal University as a Lecturer from 1992-99. He joined the
Department of Environment, Govt. of NCT of Delhi as Senior
Scientific Officer and worked there from 1992 to 2019. He was also
the Director of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Combating Climate
Change, Delhi, from 17th August 2017 to 31st March 2019. He also
remains a Lifelong member of the Indian Science Congress, Kolkata.
During his entire career, spanning more than 3 decades, Dr BC
Sabata has made countless contributions to his field and the
environment. He has organized several national and international
seminars & workshops in coordination with Govt agencies,
Industries, Civil Societies and Consultancies. He also has done
campaigns for awareness on environment among school children,
college students, NGO’s, Industries etc, on the topics of “Say NO to
Crackers”, “Green and Clean Delhi”, etc. In the recognition of his
achievements, he has been awarded UNESCO Young Scientist visiting
award in 1989, Biotechnology National Associateship award in 1995,
and Bhagidari award for the Best officer in 2005 and 2006.
Summarizing his findings and views, Dr Sabata has also published 25
papers. He has also written a book on river pollution and has edited a
book on Plant protection. He has also written several articles for
newspapers, magazines and scientific journals. His contribution to
the environment and botany remains unmatched.
Presently he is a consultant at Delhi Pollution Control Committee. He
has been associated with Ryan Mayur Vihar for more than a decade
now and with his guidance and support we have organized several
activities and workshops on the environment to create awareness
among the students.
