2. Gap junctions
D) all of these
3. Gap junctions are found in cells of the bladder and cells of the heart. What is the significance of gap
junctions to these two organs?
4. One of the places that tight junctions are found is in the stomach. Using the knowledge you have
about the stomach, give the best explanation as to why it is important for tight junctions to be located in
the stomach (think about the characteristics of these cell junctions).
5. Compare and contrast the two types of anchoring junctions found in cells.
6. Jimmy Flatout had an emergency appendectomy. As the surgeon cut through the abdominal wall into
the peritoneal cavity, all of these tissue types were cut EXCEPT (Think about the examples given as to
where the each of the tissue types would be found in the body):
D)skeletal muscle.
E)adipose tissue.
A)skeletal muscle
C)epithelial cells
D)neurons
E)all of these
8. What three things do Mucous membranes do? Name three places in the body where you would find
mucous membranes (provide one location for each of the tasks they do in the body).
9. As discussed in the powerPoint slides, give three examples as to where serous mebranes would be
found in the body.
15. List the differences between regeneration and Fibrosis during tissue repair.
16. Slide 79 of the Histology powerPoint lists the three steps in wound healing. In your own words,
summarize each of these three steps (this will hopefully help you understand the process and make each
step easy to retain).
17. Elastic connective tissue allows stretching of tissues in the body. List the three examples given in
lecture of places where this tissue is found. With the knowledge you have about these areas, discuss
why having elastic connective tissue in them is necessary. (*** With this concept in mind, of relating the
areas certain tissues are found to the functions of the tissues, go through your notes/powerpoints and
apply it to the rest of the tissue types. It will hopefully make learning the tissue types and locations a lot
easier.)
18. Compare and contrast each of the following muscle types:
