Dear Sir/Madam committee,

My name is Febby Nurdiya Ningsih. I finished my undergraduate study in Biology

department of Brawijaya University, Indonesia and now pursuing my master in
biomedical sciences course of Ritsumeikan University, Japan. I have been working
with inflammation and immunity mechanism study since I was in undergraduate study.
In undergraduate, I was working with diabetes mice model induced by Streptozotocin
and observing their immunity profile after treated with several Indonesian medicinal
herbs. In another project, I performed atherosclerosis animal model induced by high
fat diet to observe the anti-atherosclerotic effect of Agaricus mushroom. Both of those
research have limitation related to the animal model. We cannot observe the
mechanism specifically and deeply since the disease that was developed is systemic.
The most recently research I performed in my master study is about active constituents
isolated from Cnidium rhizome originally from East Asia and its anti-inflammatory
effect. However now, my recent research still using primary cell culture for screening
method. In the future, I will use animal model with manipulated-specific disease marker
to examine the pharmacological effect of the active constituents and investigating its
molecular mechanism. Therefore, development of animal model of specific disease
become important in pharmacological experiment.

Until now, I have nothing direct experience in genome engineering, but I have high
interest in genome engineering especially related to animal model development.
Nowadays, CRISPR/cas9 has big potential as genome engineering tool which can
increase accuracy and save the processing time. In pharmacological experiment,
development of animal is important part to evaluate the effect of drug in organism level
and investigate its specific mechanism. Therefore, this course will enhance my
learning process to be implemented in my research activity. Furthermore, this course
could open new direction about animal experiment in my research activity also in my
laboratory where I am studying. Furthermore, once I return to Indonesia, this
knowledge and skill can be high investation for research activity progression related
to animal model development. In Indonesia, the study about animal model engineering
is still limited while animal model especially mice are high demanded in
pharmacological experiment. In my recent institution, Ritsumeikan university, has
sufficient infrastructure for animal experiment. However, the expert and the research
activity relate to animal model engineering are still limited.

I hope this can be considered. I will be looking forward to your positive response.
Thank you.
