Hello Parents and Guardians,

My name is Ms. Harvey and I am so excited to be your child’s 3rd grade teacher. This is my
fifth year teaching children and my first year teaching at Ridgemont Elementary. I earned my
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from McNeese State University in 2006. Before my time
teaching, I was an experienced journalist. I also taught adults English as a Second Language
overseas for a few years before I began my teaching career in the United States. Outside of
teaching I enjoy traveling, running, writing and spending time with family.
In our first day of class we will be covering high priority procedures to follow such as
behavior expectations, bathroom breaks, and beginning class and dismissal procedures. Also,
be on the lookout for a copy of all the rules and procedures we practice in our class. Each
student will be given a copy on the first day for you to review.
We will also briefly cover grading guidelines the first day and each student will also
receive a printed copy to keep in their homework binder. The guidelines are as follow:
Grading:
Students earn numerical grades on a 0-100 scale.
A = 100 - 90
B = 89 - 80
C = 79 - 70
D = 69 - 60
F = 59 and below (not passing)

Number of Grades per Quarter

Grading guidelines shall ensure that grades reflect a student’s relative mastery of an
assignment and that a sufficient number of grades are taken to support the grade average
assigned. Therefore, a minimum of eight grades each quarter in each core content area
(reading, writing, math, science, social studies) will be given.

Grading Categories (weighted):

Classwork/Daily Grades 70%
Assessments 30%
When calculating a nine-week average for a content area, no single grade will count more than
30% of the total average. No two grades will count more than 50% of the total average.

Makeup Work:
It is the joint responsibility of the teacher/student/parent to arrange for make-up work. Under
normal conditions, you should allow one day for make-up work to be turned in for each day of
school missed.

Throughout the year, it is important to have a strong parent-teacher relationship. If at any

time you have any questions, concerns, or would like to set up a conference please contact
me. You can email me at ad.harvey@ridgemontelem.edu or call me at (555) 867-5309. Also,
please check the school’s website often for homework assignments as well as important
updates. I update my page as much as possible with reminders, news, homework, and other
information that might be helpful.
I am thrilled to be starting on this year’s journey with your children! I look forward to
watching them learn, grow and have a fantastic time in 3rd grade!

Sincerely,

Ms. Harvey
