Spiti Left Bank Trek (REVISED ON 1 JUNE 2019)

Itinerary
Day – 1 Chandigarh to Kalpa (330 Kilometers/ 8-9 hrs)
Early morning post breakfast you drive to Kalpa. It takes 7-8 hrs drive to Kalpa.  Kalpa and
the nearby town of Reckong Peo is mostly known as the center point of the journey from
Shimla to Kaza. In the evening, you can explore local Kalpa market. You can feel an
essence of Buddhism as you see a couple of old chortens.
Day - 2 Kalpa to Kaza (200 Kilometers/ 6-7 hrs)
You visit to local magistrate office to receive Foreigner Permit to travel along the Restricted
International Border area. Then you drive for a memorable journey in the mountains of
Himalaya. Check into a hotel/guesthouse. In the evening visit the localities and observe the
serenity of Spiti River.
Day - 3 Kaza to Langza (14 Kilometers/ 6-7 hrs)
Today is the first trekking day. Post to healthy breakfast you start the trek through a small
plateau and pasture land. The altitudes are Kaza (3,600 mtr) & Langza (4,388 mtr). You
visit around Langza and explore the Langza monastery. At night stay in Spiti home stay.
Day - 4 Langza to Hikkim to Komic (12 Kilometers/ 4-5 hrs)
In fact this is the land of monasteries and in every monastery, you explore something new.
This trail is located at the highest altitude in Spiti region. We pitch our camp in the view of
Spiti mountain range. This region is somewhat barren but the greenery is located in patches
somewhere.

World’s Highest Post Office!

Day - 5 Komic to Demul (14 Kilometers/ 5-6 hrs)


You explore and witness that there are so many valleys in the Spiti Valley. Today you
descend through the local country way. Demul village is located on the ridge of Lingti valley.
It indicates the hard life of locals for managing agricultural land. This village is cluster of 51
houses. We set camp near the village.
Day - 6 Demul – Lalung – Dhankhar (17 Kilometers/ 5-6 hrs)
Post breakfast you descend but little steep in curvy & zig-zag manner. Cross the bridge and
walk along right bank of Lingti river .Crossing in one hour dry gorges to Lalung village. You
visit the Sherkong monastery (golden temple) which is one thousand years old. After eating
lunch and crossing a steams trail enter into the monk valley. There is old and famous
Monastery of the region. Dhankher was the capital of the Spiti in old days. We set camp
near the Lake.
Day-7 Dhankar – Manali (240 Kilometers)
Post breakfast you descend towards Shichling. It is easy walk of 8 kms and takes 2-3 hrs.
Your returning transport picks up you and you towards Manali. This takes around 7-8 hrs to
reach Manali.
Day -8 Manali
Today is a free day and you explore the local markets. There are few ancient temples in
Manali i.e. Vashishta, Hadimba temple, Manu temple etc.
Evening you board on Volvo Bus to New Delhi. It is an overnight journey.
