*) With regard to disassembly, when replacing piston and cylinder liner.

Clean the cylinder head at the sealing planes and measure the valve stem projection.
If wear is in excess of 1.2 mm, we recommend replacing the cylinder head for reasons of economy.

**) When a check of the valve-stem projection shows that the maximum wear tolerance limit has been
reached.

1. Replacing the cylinder head:

1.1 Removing the cylinder-head:

Drain the cooling liquid (until the cylinder heads are empty).
Attention: never re-use drained cooling water when re-filling the cooling system!

Loosen the fastening screws of the exhaust gas and cooling water drain pipes.

Dismantle the rocker-arm pedestal, rocker arms and push rods.

Make sure that no oil can enter the precombustion chamber! Clean the cylinder-head thoroughly
to remove any oil contamination.

Remove the protective rubber caps from the cylinder-head screws.

Assemble the hydraulic tensioner.

Increase the oil pressure of the device until the cylinder-head nuts can be loosened manually
using a guide pin.

If the oil pressure (of the tensioner) increases to 760 bar [11020 psi] and the nuts can still not be
loosened, stop the disassembly procedure to avoid damaging the cylinder-head screws.
Check the tensioner for correct operation.
Check the cylinder-head screws for damage (galling).

1.2 Assembling the cylinder-head:

Clean the mating faces at the crankcase and the cylinder-head.

Assemble a new cylinder-head gasket in the groove.

To lift the cylinder-head, screw lifting-eye bolt (M16) into the thread of the rocker-arm pedestal.

Replace all O rings of the cylinder-head. Oil the O rings slightly with engine oil before assembly.
