Time Tracker Worksheet
Time Tracker Worksheet
It’s nice to see you! In this worksheet, you’ll track everything you do for an entire week so that you can find space
to write. It’s simple—on the following pages, you’ll fill in the time slots with the activities, work, and events you
completed for a week.
Why a week? By tracking your time for an entire week, you get a sense of your routine. You’ll be able to see the
patterns and habits you follow. You’ll also get a sense of your productivity and motivation levels.
After completing this worksheet, you’ll have a birds-eye-view of your weekly routine. Knowing how you typically
spend your time will help you in two major ways:
1. You’ll be able to reflect on and find where you can incorporate writing into your daily routine.
2. You’ll be able to see all the times you weren’t as productive as you planned. Knowing when you’re less
productive will help you eliminate bad habits and open up space to form more positive habits.
Artist and writer, Austin Kleon, shares how he finds time for creative work in his book, Show Your Work!:
"Don’t say you don’t have enough time. We’re all busy, but we all get 24 hours a day. People often ask me, “How do you
find the time for the work?” And I answer, “I look for it.” You find time the same place you find spare change: in the
nooks and crannies. You find it in the cracks between the big stuff—your commute, your lunch break, the few hours
after your kids go to bed. You might have to miss an episode of your favorite TV show, you might have to miss an hour
of sleep, but you can find the time to work if you look for it.”
After you finish tracking your time, take a moment to reflect on the “cracks between the big stuff.” Where can you
add time to write? Can you limit the amount of time you spend doing certain activities to make time for writing?
Happy writing!
