102087 Secondary Curriculum 1A – Assignment 2

To enhance creativity, students have the option to either draw or write down their ideas in

lesson two and three. This helps to communicate their way of learning, constructs

imagination and promotes flexibility and creativity (Al-Zahrani, 2015). They are further

supported with a detailed poetic devices guidance worksheet. For students of low ability, they

can use 1-2 techniques and develop short simple poem. For high academic skills, students can

use more than four devices and form stanzas. Also, a ‘list of words worksheet’ is provided to

enhance their literacy skills through emphasising the type of words to add to the list: for

instance, words that involve nature. Further, in the lessons, literacy is improved by

specifically using descriptive words in the activity, enhancing active thinking (Bulgren,

2011). Another useful strategy, ICT is incorporated to look up word definitions, and a

website that can help with understanding poetic devices through flashcards and listening to

the definitions. Here, the use of computer can allow for developing of new creative ways of

learning based on what they already know (Abdulrahman, 2015). Hence, including these

competencies shifts students’ self-development from passive to active participants with

enhanced learning skills and knowledge.
