102605 Professional Practice Community Engagement- Reflection

My goals were to help and support students’ needs and provide simple learning ways. Here,
solving equations or understanding literacy tasks through deconstructing the learning
activities. Also, building a positive student-teacher relationship can have a positive impact on
students’ achievement in learning activities. In exploring my goals, the diverse learners who
come from different backgrounds, for instance, middle eastern refugees, I helped them with
their English skills. The challenge was to deconstruct the work, provide simple examples and
explicate the meaning, which I did effectively. In some cases, mentors have asked me to help
them with translating some words to these students. This positive outcome and engagement
resulted in reaching my goal of supporting learners and helping my colleagues.

The students learned to ask for help during a complication and focusing on themselves can
result in a positive outcome. Here, my colleagues have learned that diverse cultures have
different interpretations and views of situations. In this case, diverse learners tend to have
various perspectives and beliefs depending on what they are experiencing and cultural
traditions. I also believe that my assistance and explanation of tasks to students resulted in
excitement and motivation to complete the work and go to the next level of their literacy or
numeracy skills.
