102089 Secondary Curriculum 1C- Assignment 1

The lessons incorporate ICT to present the topic by using PowToon and enhance students’
ICT skills to boost their creative thinking. In lessons one and two, PowToon is used as an
engaging multimodal presentation tool with moving characters to reflect creativity. To meet
outcome LAR4-4C, PowToon is used for addressing ideas and information to teach new
vocabulary that reinforces class engagement. Here, using ICT for explicit presentation of the
topic that includes images, pronunciation and spelling can enhance the performance of
learners with diverse aptitudes (Bulgren, 2011). The topic ‘family members’ demonstrates
outcome LAR4-9U through adding to students’ knowledge about Arabic culture. For
instance, saying ‘aunty or uncle’ illustrates respect, and learners share a fact about the culture
to activate their intercultural understanding. Additionally, students use ICT through
individual, pairs or group work. Here, the learning activities include searching for images,
using PowerPoint to create collages of images to support their work and PowToon animated
characters. Also, diverse learners can type their dialogue using the online Arabic keyboard
and include a video of background sounds for their dialogue location. Essentially, technology
enhances creative thinking and increases students’ attention to teachers (Al-Zahrani, 2015).
The lessons encourage flexibility that enables them “to think creatively” (Al-Zahrani, 2015,
p.1138) through providing options in classwork.
