In this industrial tour report Md Abdullah Al Hasan assistant professor, Department of Finance ,
was my academic supervisor and Sanjina Sultana, Junior Officer was my field supervisor. I was
approved to write report on “Card Division of UCBL”.
During my industrial tour period, I have tried to gather practical knowledge about banking
activities & to make a bridge between my theoretical knowledge & practical knowledge.
1
1.3 Scope of the Study:
This report is based on my practical work experience with United Commercial Bank Limited. It
will also help the students to reduce the distinction between realistic and hypothetical
knowledge. The industrial tour program significantly helps me a lot to understand the
atmosphere and environment of an organization. It also helps to know how to behave in pressure,
how to work with senior officers. It also helps me to understand corporate ethics. What we have
learnt in BBA we can relate those with the practical knowledge.
As I am an industrial tour reporter of UCBL, I have access to many different sectors like
account opening, card division, clearing, cheque division, pay order writing, accounts etc. It was
almost impossible for me to learn everything about all banking sectors as it was a large financial
sector with limited time. I have tried my level best to learn most of the things in this small time.
1.4 Methodology:
For performing the study I have collected the data then organized and analyzed, interpreted and
inscribe in a methodical way. The sources are primary and secondary data.
• Website of UCBL
• Leaflets of UCBL
• Annual report of UCBL
•
1.5 Limitations of the Study:
It was a great opportunity for me to work at United Commercial Bank Limited during my
industrial tour period. As I was an reporter at there, I got a big chance to know the actions and
behaviors of banking system, especially UCBL. None the less I had to face some obstacles while
doing this report. Some of them are given below:
Lack of Time: As there was only one day to complete the report, it was almost
impossible to cover the performance of the such a huge bank in full swing, where a
regular employee gets promoted after 1 or 2 year of his probationary period.
Inadequate data resources: All types of information were not available for access, so it
was not Possible to access and summarize them properly.
2
Lack of experience: It was my first time, doing a report on a banking system in a
practical Operation at Card Division of UCBL corporate life, so my limited experience
was one of the main obstacles I faced during the preparation of this report.
Privacy of Information: Every establishment has its secrecy that is not shared with
everyone.
So this confidentiality of information was proved as an obstacle which faced while preparing this
report.

4.2 Major Findings:
United commercial bank ltd is one of the most potential banks in the banking sector. It has a
large portfolio with huge assets to meet up its liabilities and the management of this bank is
equipped with the expert bankers and managers in all level of management. So it is not an easy
job to find out the drawbacks of this branch. I would rather feel like produce my personal
opinion about the ongoing practices in O.R .Nijam Road Branch.
There are a number of banks are operating in the O.R.Nijam Road commercial area, But
from these, UCBL is successfully operating activities.
Branch manager puts conscious efforts to achieve the targets and knows how to motivate
the employees and how to represent the well in the local community.
The strategy and policy of branch manager are effective. So in spite of cut throat
competition ,the bank has a sound position in the competitive environment.
There is lack of efficient Management Information System (MIS)
Lack of advertisement of the general banking products
Product diversification of UCB is not sufficient to gain a competitive advantage in the
market.
No expansion or establishment of branches in new urban areas.
The bank does not follow the fact right man in the right place the authority didn’t set
proper person in the proper place.
The ATM Booth of UCBL is very insufficient for customers rather than others banks.
The bank provides lower interest rate rather than other banks provide.
Certain disruption of electronic disruption.
Good relation with most of the customers.
Neat & clean office environment.
4.3 Recommendations:
I have made some recommendations based on the findings that I have got from my personal
observation. The recommendations will help to take necessary steps in order to increase the
satisfaction level of customers of UCBL. The followings are some recommendation for the
company:
UCBL can diversify them from other banks by starting leasing or insurance sector.
UCBL can introduce Special corporate scheme for the corporate level customers or
customers with a high income
They also can give Varity on retail banking for the middle class people.
The software of UCBL often hanged and interrupts work in time. So they should work
more on their website.
36
UCBL should increase more ATM booth in commercial place.
For the Premium Customers there should be some special interest rates on several loan
and deposit schemes
They have to make sure proper promotional activities.
Each department should ensure the accessibility and proper maintenance of necessary
machines like computer, photocopy machine, scanner etc.
The retail department of UCB is needed to be effective and well enough to manage actual and
potential customer
The bank should open new branches in many urban areas to provide products & services
to all classes of people.
The bank must recruit more experienced & expert people and side by side bank should
also recruit young & talented energetic people for better services.
Bank should set up right people in the right for better performance.
Sufficient skilled manpower should introduce in IT section of the bank.
4.4 Conclusion:
At present the banking industry is being governed by tights rules & regulations set by
Bangladesh Bank. As a first generation bank UCBL is completely committed to provide high
quality services to its consumers. And they are also committed to contribute to the growth of
GDP. This bank is making opportunity to create employment prospect for the youth. So it is
automatically raising the standard of living. UCBL is trying their best to give the customers the
most excellent service and customers are quite convinced by their service. UCBL has good
reputation for online transactions. UCBL should not only retain existing customers but also drag
new customers through positive worth of mouth communications. UCBL should explore the new
trends and strategies to compete with the opponents.
