"The Freedom Writers" (2007)

The movie "The Freedom Writers" is a true story based on the Erin Gruwell book. The
film was directed by Richard LaGravenese. It stars the two-time Academy Award
winner: Hilary Swank as Erin Gruwell, teacher of a group of discriminated students.
The film was set in the 90s. It was filmed in Long Beach, California, United States.

The film is about a recently graduated young teacher who begins to teach language at
an institute in Long Beach, California. Her students, who live in slums, are marked by
gang violence and discrimination. After a bad start, she discovers how to earn their
respect and trust and how to help them change: she tells them about Anne Frank and
other teenagers, less fortunate than themselves, who lived through great tragedies and
wrote about it.

It is there that they feel hope, and begin to write short stories about those who live on
the streets with criminals and away from their families. And all of their diaries were
used to write "The Freedom Writers" by their teacher. At the end of the film they tell us
that many of them managed to enter a university, and were the first in their families.

I recommend this movie because it will make you see beyond things and you can see
another reality. It teaches us not to discriminate against anyone because of their skin
color, way of walking or speaking because they are the same as us, but the most
important thing is that it teaches us to value life and to follow our dreams.

That's all, thank you very much.
