Name of Lesson: Compare and Contrast Cloud Map

Grade Level Appropriateness: 5th Grade

Technology Content Standard: Nevada Computer and Technology Standard that will be met is

standard 1B: Create original works as means of personal or group expression

Other Content Standard Addressed: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.5.3 Compare and contrast

two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the

text (e.g., how characters interact).

Objective: The students will use PowerPoint and line tools to understand similarities and

differences of two-story characters and how those characters interact with one another.

Materials Needed to Facilitate the lesson: PowerPoint

Suggested Group Size: Individual

Procedures: 1. Open PowerPoint and create a blank slide under home file and save as, first

name and last time and right after Compare Contrast Cloud Map

ex:JaneDoeCompareContrastCloudMAP (These will allow to save progress as you work through

the project). 2. To change color of the slide, got to the design tab click on Format Background

and under color (A bucket icon) choose color of choice. 3. After choosing a color, go under

insert tab, go to shapes and under basic shapes click the cloud shape. 4. Next, enlarge the shape,

choose a color, and outline in black. 5. Now copy and paste two more times. 6. Repeat steps 3 to

5 two more times and choose a different color for the clouds and align some to the left some to

the middle, and the last three to the right.

7.To connect the clouds go under insert, click on shapes, under lines, and choose the double

ended arrow to connect the left clouds to the center clouds and the right clouds to the center
clouds.8. To change the thickness of the lines, click on the lines, click on shape outline, scroll to

weight and change the weight to 6 pt. 9. Now to add text inside the clouds, go to insert tab, click

on text box place over the cloud where you would like to the text to go. 10. Add any images from

the open web by coping and pasting and adjusting the size. 11. Finally click on the File tab, click

save as, name with first name and last time and right after Compare Contrast Cloud Map

ex:JaneDoeCompareContrastCloudMAP. Under file type use choose JPEG and save it to the

desktop.

Assessment: Students will be formatively and summative assessed. While they are working on

the project it would following along with them to make sure they are understanding how to

follow instructions in completing the comparison and contrasting cloud map. This portion is the

formative assessment. The summative assessment will come at the end of the lesson where they

will be given a quiz to see if they understand hot compare and contract different characters.
