The speeches enveloped with the false words by the medias

Today, mass media manipulation is a topic very common in the society, that is a realistic

and terrible problem that people of the world face every day. This situation is causing many

financial, political and psychosocial problems as can be seen in the fifth chapter of Wunderkind.

Firstly, we see that human life is the result of a product in society. This is evidenced, for

example, in Hanks, a campaign representative, who wants to claim his career and decides to take

the presidency to Oliver, an 11-year-old youtuber boy, who has become popular for making

game videos and who wants to be President. In this way, we see a marketing strategy that is

geared more to the cultural interests of voters than to actual policies affecting the United States.

Furthermore, the information we get from the media is genuine. In the wunderkind scene,

we see how, after a failure in an electoral debate, Hanks seeks through persuasion strategies to

manipulate the audience by appealing to pity and compassion, by showing a video about the

cancer that the Oliver’s dog is suffering.

In a third place, referring to the plot of the chapter, we can see on a deeper level, a young

man who only wants to play video games and have fun, does not want to think about the

problems of society in general and therefore, contemplates the use of the word as a shameless

manipulation tool that, in conjunction with the media, convince people that he is the right

president to look after the interests of the population. We see how politicians lie and rely on the

media to achieve their goals.

TASK

In this way we can say that the media become instruments of persuasion, and more so in

political situations, where unconditional love is given to a political leader who through these

means seeks to promote loyalties by appealing to the emotions and interests of who follow them.
