"The Future of World Religion"

By: Argemiro Celestino and Michael Talero

English VII- Group 14- Mr. Jairo Soto

As religious diversity and religious populations grow, so does their potential impact,

creating new challenges and opportunities for societies, governments and economies. The

impact of religion is on the rise on a global scale.

Therefore, the religious aspect of the world is rapidly changing, and it depends of the size

of youth populations among the world’s major religions, as well as by people switching

faiths. In our opinion, some religious groups will continue to grow.

Now, the number of Muslims will be almost equal to the number of Christians worldwide.

With each passing year, however, there is a chance that unforeseen events – war, famine,

disease, technological innovation, political upheaval, etc. – will alter the size of one

religious group or another.

“By trying to peer into the future, we actually can sometimes see with greater clarity what’s

happening today” said Cooperman, we share the researcher's opinion and today it is

inevitable not to recognize that factors such as war and technological advances are the

factors that mediate other aspects of society. In this way, the religious aspect is influenced

by the multiple changes that have taken place in society and by the increase in the

population that has a specific belief in some religion.

Finally, we can say that in order to tell the whole story, to give life to the numbers and

present hypotheses regarding the future of the world of religion, it is important to continue

making qualitative, sociological, historical, ethical and theological explorations that allow

us to reach conclusions about what may happen in approximately 30 years’ time.
