Sword Art Online Season 2 opens with a scene in an online game world called Gun Gale
Online. In this scene a guest star named Zexceed, during an interview in the game, was shot
by a player who called himself, "Death Gun". Not long after that, Zexceed's connection was
cut off and his character disappeared. Elsewhere, Asuna who had returned to the real world
met with Kirito in the city. Four hours earlier, Kirito met with Seijirou Kikuoka, an employee
at the ministry of telecommunications bureau in the country, who handled the S.A.O. case.
Kikuoka informed him that there was a death case involving a new online game, called Gun
Gale Online or G.G.O. for short., and Kirito was asked to investigate the case.

Back into the world of G.G.O., a sniper by the name of Sinon, who just got the latest weapon,
Ultima Ratio Hecate Two, from hunting boss monster. Afterwards, Sinon also join a mission
with a group, to ambush other players in the middle of the desert. But their ambush plan also
failed, because one of the players they were aiming for brought a minigun. Even though their
ambush failed, and all of her group members were killed, in the end Sinon managed to defeat
the player who brought the minigun and killed him.

Then, Shino Asada, the real name of Sinon, was shopping after school, and suddenly
approached by a friend who often bullied her by utilizing his past trauma related to the gun.
Shortly afterwards, came Shinkawa Kouji, who pretended to come with the police to help
Asada. After arriving home, Asada who tried to defeat his fear of the gun, tried to hold the
toy gun she kept in her house, but her fear kept coming to her, and she even remembered
back to the time when the trauma had formed. At that time, the small Asada went to a post
office with her mother. Suddenly a robber came, and threatened to kill her mother. Asada
who tried to protect her mother, tried to grab the gun that fell, and shot the robber to death.
She was join G.G.O., in order to eliminate the trauma, assuming if she became the strongest
in G.G.O., then she would not be traumatized, every time she saw a gun. Then, Kirito and
Asuna who were in the world of A.L.O., discussing Kirito's plans for a temporary break from
A.L.O., to investigate a new game. After getting Asuna's approval, Kirito went to a hospital,
and logged in to the G.G.O. from there, so that all of his vital signs can be monitored. And in
other places, it appears that the player suspected of being Death Gun, is looking at the photos
of the victims, and one of them is Sinon.
Kirito, who finally entered the game G.G.O., realized that the characters he possessed looked
like women. Sinon who thought Kirito was a woman, agreed to take him to the Weapon
Shop, and Central Administration Office. Kirito, who did not have enough money to buy
weapons, finally joined a game with a large prize money. Kirito, who played it for the first
time, won the game and got all the prize money. Kirito finally bought a photon sword, and a
gun as a back up, according to Sinon's advice. Kirito and Sinon who had little time left to
register, finally boarded the Buggy motorbike in order to get to their destination on time.

Kirito and Sinon who made it up to the remaining time, immediately rushed off to register
themselves in the Bullet of Bullets tournament, or abbreviated as B.O.B.. Kirito and Sinon
were in the same block, and they would likely meet in the final block. Afterwards, they went
to change clothes, and it was there that Kirito just admitted that he is a man. That pissed
Sinon off, thinking that Kirito had deceived her all this time. While in the waiting room, they
meet with Spiegel, the name of Kouji’s avatar in the G.G.O.. Afterwards, they are sent to the
battlefield, to face their first opponents in the preliminary round. In his first match, Kirito
defeated his opponent using the photon sword he had. He deflected all of his opponent's
bullets using the photon sword, and the help of prediction lines. Kirito returned to the waiting
room after his first match, and meeting a suspicious player. Afterwards, Kirito saw the tattoo
on the player's wrist, and that was when he realized that the player was a former member of
the Laughing Coffin union, the PK union at S.A.O.

After that player left, Kirito who tried to remember who the Laughing Coffin member was,
recalled his past in S.A.O., where he killed two Laughing Coffin members, when they tried to
raid the guild. And at that moment, Kirito realized that the player in the gray coat was Death
Gun. Sinon came up to Kirito, and asked how he was doing. At that moment, Sinon looked at
Kirito like herself when she was scared. Not long after that, Kirito was sent back to the next
battleground. In this match, restless Kirito won his second match, relying solely on his
photon sword. Sinon also won the next match, and got to the final round of the block. Sinon
and Kirito finally faced off in the final round of the block. After the final block match began,
Sinon immediately looked for a suitable position for her. Kirito who is restless, approached
Sinon brightly. Sinon who was annoyed at Kirito, who seemed to have no intention of
fighting her, approached him, and expressed her annoyance. That's when Kirito woke up, and
offered Sinon to a one on one duel with him. In the end, the duel was won by Kirito, who
managed to fend off a close-range shot from Sinon's weapon. And finally, Kirito and Sinon
managed to advance to the next round.
Suguha realized about Kirito's move from A.L.O. to G.G.O., because of Kirito's name in the
list of winners of the B.O.B. tournament group on the Internet. And also Kirito, who didn't
want Asuna to be involved, was still hiding the fact that there was a involvement of laughing
coffin members, in the case he was investigating. Kirito, who was agitated because he kept
recalling the three people he had killed while in S.A.O., finally tried to tell his anxiety to the
nurse who was looking after him, Aki. And after telling Aki, Kirito became calmer. Asuna
who was with her friends, couldn't concentrate while fighting, because she continued to
worry about Kirito. And finally, Asuna and the others agreed to watch Kirito's fight together.

Before the start of the main tournament, Sinon explained to Kirito about the rules of the main
tournament. After the 30 players enter the arena, they will be scattered randomly, in an area
with a diameter of 10 kilometers, and 1000 meters apart between each player. Afterwards,
Kirito tried to ask Sinon if there was a player's name that she didn't recognize from the list of
30 players. And apparently, there were 3 names of players that Sinon had never heard of,
namely Pale Rider, X Shooter, and Sterben. Kirito also tried to explain, that he and the person
he met yesterday, were enemies who had tried to kill each other before. Shortly thereafter, the
main tournament of B.O.B. began. Sinon who immediately searched for a suitable place,
quickly killed one participant. And after seeing that Dyne was being chased by Pale Rider,
Sinon decided to monitor them. Sinon who was monitoring the two players, suddenly
approached by Kirito, who was also apparently following the Pale Rider. After Pale Rider
defeated Dyne, suddenly Pale Rider fell down after being shot, by an unknown paralized
bullet. After observing for a while, they realized that someone was behind the bridge's
shadow, which turned out to be the Death Gun that Kirito was looking for.

Death Gun approached, and pointed his gun at Pale Rider. Kirito who had been watching
them, asked Sinon to shoot Death Gun right away, to prevent him from killing Pale Rider.
But unfortunately, the bullet fired by Sinon, is successfully avoided by Death Gun, and Death
Gun finally shot Pale Rider directly. Pale Rider who was shot, suddenly disappeared because
the network was cut off. It's the same as the first and second cases, where players shot by
Death Gun, and end up dead in the real world. Kirito who initially only wanted to go alone to
chase Death Gun, finally left with Sinon, because Sinon continued to insist on going with
him. They went to the ruins of the city, and there they found Shooter X, who was inside the
city first. Kirito immediately went up to Shooter X, and Sinon was asked to guard him from
behind. But unexpectedly, Sinon who was walking towards the hideout, suddenly was shot by
a paralyzed bullet, which was apparently fired by Death Gun who was nearby.
Suddenly Death Gun was shot, and immediately hid after seeing a grenade thrown. The
grenade that was thrown, turned out to be a smoke bomb, and Kirito immediately came to
help Sinon to escape using a buggy motorbike. In the end, Sinon was assisted by Kirito, firing
his rifle, and created a large enough explosion, which directly affected Death Gun and his
horse. Kirito and Sinon who managed to escape from Death Gun, hid in a cave in the middle
of the desert, in order to avoid being monitored by satellites. Sinon who was struggling
because of her past, finally tried to tell Kirito, that she had killed a robber at a post office 5
years ago, using a gun. After that incident, his classmates labeled her as a murderer, and until
now every time she sees a gun, she will be reminded of the incident, and it has been a trauma
for her until now. After hearing Sinon's story, Kirito also said that he had killed too. Kirito
told Sinon that he was a former S.A.O. player. At that time he went to storm the Laughing
Coffin base, and it turned out that Laughing Coffin already knew about the raid, and their
formation was in disarray. Kirito, who had difficulty facing the laughing coffin guild,
eventually killed two guild members.

While talking to Sinon, Kirito realized that during the crossfire, Death Gun did not use the
gun he used to kill his victims, even though he could immediately kill Kirito. It was from
there that Kirito realized, that the killings committed by Death Gun were not done in the
game, but in the real world. Death Gun can also get the target address, by looking silently
from a far with a scope, when the target fills the address in the registration Terminal. And
then Kirito also wondered what if there are two Death Guns, one in the tournament, and the
other one in the real world, and the possibility of them killing their targets using drugs, that

Afterwards, Kirito and Sinon made plans to face the Dark Wind. Sinon was sure that she
could defeat the Dark Wind, before meeting with Kirito. Kirito, who was in the middle of the
desert, is suddenly greeted by rifle fire from Death Gun. The Dark Wind that was shocked by
Death Gun's shot, was defeated by Sinon with a single shot from her rifle. Kirito immediately
ran towards the direction of the shot, and deflected the bullet directed at him using his photon
sword. Sinon who had found the location of Death Gun, immediately fired him, along with
Death Gun's shot aimed at her. Death Gun shot finally destroyed the Scope of Sinon's snipe,
and Sinon's shot also managed to destroy Death Gun's rifle. Asuna who had arrived at the
room where Kirito Dive-In was, watched the battle between Kirito and Death Gun. Death
Gun who had lost his rifle, used his special sword to face Kirito.

In the midst of a fierce battle between the two, Kirito managed to remember the name of
Death Gun, Zaza, who was a former laughing coffin red-eyed official. After that, Sinon who
tried to shoot Death Gun, gave a gap to Death Gun's defense. And as Death Gun tried to
avoid using the power of his robe, Kirito quickly pulled out his gun, and shot him. Then,
Kirito immediately slash through Death Gun's body, and finally kill Death Gun. Afterwards,
because Sinon don't want to fight with Kirito in an unfair condition, the two of them finally
blew themselves up, and became first place together. After returning to the real world, Asada
was suddenly visited by Kouji, who wanted to congratulate her, having won the first place.
Afterwards, Kouji who suddenly became aggressive towards his feelings for Asada,
threatened Asada using injections containing drugs, that could paralyze the muscles of the
body. Asada finally realizes, that Kouji is Death Gun, and Kouji also recognizes it. Whereas
Death Gun who took part in the tournament, was Kouji's older brother, who was a former
member of the Laughing Coffin guild. Asada tried to escape from Kouji, until finally Kirito
come to help her.

Kirito, who has come to save Asada, had been given an injection from Kouji. Asada
immediately hit Kouji from behind until he passed out. Luckily, the injection that Kouji had
injected earlier, was right to pierce the heart recording device that is still attached to Kirito's
chest. Then, Asada who tries to overcome her past trauma, meets with friends who often
bully her. And when they point a plastic gun at her, she took the gun and tried to shoot it.
Afterwards, Asada left them, and met with Kirito who was waiting for her in front of the
school. Then they left to meet with Kikuoka. There they discussed everything about the
Death Gun case, starting with the arrest of Kouji and his brother, Shouichi, the third Death
Gun named Atsushi Kanamoto, who was still at large, and a letter, from Shouichi to Kirito
that said, that all of this had not been finished yet. Afterwards, Kirito and Asada went to
Agil's bar and meet with Asuna and Lisbeth there. After getting acquainted and talking with
Asada, they then bring out a woman and her child, who were a former post office employees,
where Asada shot the robber to death. The woman apologized for not immediately seeing
Asada, and thanked her, because at that time, she was pregnant with a child, who is now 4
years old. Asada cried after the woman's child gave the painting she had drawn herself, and
held Asada's hand.

This is the end of the Phantom Bullet Arc, and after this, there will be a side story to fill in
the end of season 2 from S.A.O.

This Arc shows a pretty interesting storyline. Starting from the game atmosphere that is very
different from the game in season 1, until the emergence of a new heroine, that is no less
interesting than Asuna. Aside from showing something new, this Arc also still has quite a
strong connection with season 1, namely by displaying former Laughing Coffin guild
members as an opponent for Kirito. Also, even though G.G.O. was a game that used guns,
Kirito still used his favorite weapon, the sword. For animation, A-1 Pictures does a really
great job, so the whole battle scenes looks really amazing. And for the soundtrack, all the
songs used are very good, especially, “Ignite”, as the opening. The song is very distinctive
and pleasant to hear, and every time I hear the song, I immediately remember Sword Art
Online, especially the Phantom Bullet Arc. So, overall, I give it an A minus.
