Sampler tubes and baby rods which are sold separately are also required to complete the assembly. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 1) 8) 9) Drop one-way lock into sampler head and tighten (AW rod) connecting coupling. Turn sampler head upside down and insert piston rod from below. Join them via the left hand thread on the piston rod. Turn the rod until ends of thread and edge of coupling are flush.(Note: If the rod were inserted in the horizontal position, insert a screw driver or a ball pen into the side opening of the sampler head to. prevent one-way lock from holding the rod.) Fix lock nut and piston with seal into the end of rod. Adjust position of piston to match sampler tube length and tighten lock nut. (Note: The conical part of piston should protrude outside the tube.) Use a screw driver to tighten the brass plug in the piston Slide the piston and rod assembly into a sampler tube. Fasten the tube to the sampler head using the cap screws provided. While preventing the piston rod from turning (with a spanner), join one or two baby rods to the piston rod Connect a 1.5m or 3.0m long AW drill rod, and lower the whole assembly into the borehole. Keep joining the drill rod and baby rod until the required depth is reached. (Note: When joining the baby rod, make sure that the rod/rods below are not turned relative to the drill rods or else the connection at the left hand thread might be loosen.) Fix eye bolt to the last baby rod, and hang/fix it in position with a string, Holding the drill rod, turn the baby rods a few rounds clockwise to disconnect itself from the connecting coupling, ( (2. dirConrectip #4 Ce} thread ) 10.) Push the drill rod into the soil. 11.) Withdraw the sampler assembly by disconnecting all the rods in the reverse order. 12.) Remove the cap screws fastening the sampler tube. 13.) Insert a screw driver into the side opening of the sampler head, Push free one-way lock that is now holding the piston rod. While holding the piston rod stationary, retract sampler head about 300mm from the sampler tube. Open the brass plug on the piston a few turns to break the vacuum inside the sampler tube before removing the same.
