(Individual Assignment)

Project management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a


specific one-time effort. Software project management encompasses the
knowledge, techniques, and tools necessary to manage the development of
software products. Within this context, topics such as risk management,
management alternative life-cycle models, development team organization, and
management of technical people are also discussed. The purpose of the assignment
is to apply the knowledge gained in the area of project management planning and
coordinating and identifying possible risks. There are three components for this
assessment-Report+Artifact+Viva.

Assume that you are in charge of a project related to information technology. As a


project manager, you have the overall responsibility of controlling your project
through its entire life cycle. The management has requested you to submit a
project charter consisting of various tasks, which lead to a successful delivery of the
project. Your report should contain the following information

 Background of selected project: Explain the problems that the project will
address. Identify the key needs that the project is designed to meet, and
include any background material on reasons why the project needs have
arisen.

 Scope: Explain the work to be performed to deliver a successful product.

 Risk Management: Identify, analyze, plan, mitigate, and track.

 Project Budget: Provide the details of costs expected for this project. This
includes any costs during the development/execution of the project.

 Success Criteria: How will it be known that the overall project was a success?
Discuss the criteria used to verify that your project is a success at the end.

 Assumptions List the key assumptions that the project depends on


(resources, policies, scheduling, technology, etc.).

 Constraints: List the restrictions or limitations that will guide decision-making


throughout the life of the project.

 Milestones: Explain the key events in the life of the project.


 WBS: Provide a work break down structure of your selected projects, which
lists all major tasks and its sub tasks.

Your report should include a title, table of contents and references. You may make
any suitable assumptions while writing the report.

Instructions

This is an individual assignment and each student is expected to carry out a


comprehensive research in order to write the report.

This research report carries 50% towards the final grade of the module.

The maximum length of the report must not exceed 3000-4500 words and any
graph or chart may be included in the report as appendix.

Final version of the report with the soft copy must be submitted to the registry by
the due date.

The viva will be conducted after the submission of report.

Grading Pattern:

A+, A, A-: Indicates an outstanding report, which is accurate and consistently


strong in structure, expression and excellent comprehension of the subject.

B+, B, B-: Indicates a competent report. Well focused on the topic, clear, explicit;
discussion shows more than adequate comprehension of the subject.

C+, C, C-: Indicates an adequate report with fair comprehension of the subject but
some weaknesses in content and/or in structure.

D+, D, D-: Satisfactory comprehension of the subject. Discussion is vague even


though on topic, few details or perspectives are left out.
E: Unsatisfactory report with poor structure. Discussion is off the topic /most of the
important information is missing.

F: Poor report in terms of structure and contents. Report contains incorrect


information and all-important information is missing.

G: Report is of no value
