PKV: A History (2008-2010)

By Benjamin Ong and friends

DFP, October 2007
The concert that started it
all off. I visited the MPO
with one of my
roommates, a coursemate,
a college-mate, Amos, Suit
Lin and Evans.

It was initially a gesture of

hospitality, to introduce
our new international
friend to ‘life in Malaysia’.
Titiwangsa, Feb ‘08
Jesus said, “Come and I will
make you fishers of men.”

Academy of Islamic Studies
(API).

Dr Living represented the

Christians, and the PKV
was there to operate a
booth in conjunction with
the event.

The booth, where we put
out books for sale and
engaged all sorts of people
in conversation.

The old PKV booth on the
highest floor needed to be
spruced up and tidied.
March ’08
As you can see, there was
fungus growing on our
bookshelves.
March ’08
We got some help from
the painters working on
other walls in KPS.
Feb-Mar ‘08
We staged Entangled the
Musical in conjunction with
Easter 2008.

Our Nigerian friends Evans

and Ayan remembered the
event as “the first time
international students
performed on the KPS stage”.

I’m not sure how accurate

that fact is, but they must’ve
been among the very first
international performers at
any rate.
March ‘08
Probably one of the most
complete ‘family photos’
of PKV at the time. Shot
after Entangled the
Musical.
March ‘08
Just for fun…

The guy in the middle is

Lydia Lee’s brother.

Looks like a carbon copy of

her, kan? Kan? :-P

This is what returning
borrowed chairs to the
JPPHB after Entangled the
Musical was like.

are among the people the
PKV calls ‘leaders’.

It is time for the PKV to
move out of the old booth.
The floor is to be closed for
renovations.

the materials that remain.

But along the way we
discovered some
interesting treasures in the
PKV booth.

Aug ‘08
The new (and present)
booth is not all that bad,
but there is no window, so
ventilation is a problem.

And there is a gaping hole

in the ceiling.
Aug ’08
We have a busy but fruitful
morning cleaning the new
booth and decorating it.
Aug ‘08
We are visited by a pair of
Sith Lords.
Aug ‘08
The booth is ready.

We are set.

PKV is go!
Aug ‘08
Li Ern designed a much-
more-welcoming
attendance list for weekly
meetings.
Aug ‘08
The Science CG was large
those days. Let’s see it
bounce back!

Yes, George used to look
like that.

at the PKV.
Sept ‘08
We had some of our
international friends talk
about life in their home
countries.

Here is Martin of Iran

taking his place in the Holy
Family.
Sept ‘08
But the most memorable
part of the day was when
Shannon let his feminine
side show.
Sept ‘08
We celebrated the Lantern
Festival with a prayer
gathering at the Varsity
Lake.
Sept ‘08
A guitar, a handful of
candles and lanterns, good
company and some
mooncake to top it all off.
Sept ‘08
Inter-CG Captainball saw
good participation from
the Medical and
Engineering students,
groups then normally
dormant in PKV.

Today, the Medical and

Engineering CGs are
thriving. God has been
gracious.
Sept ‘08
And there goes the ball!
Sept ‘08
We went kayaking again,
after a very fun evening
the year before.
Sept ‘08
We were joined by friends
not from the PKV. After all,
this is what we’re here for
after all!

Aug ‘09
One of the most ambitious
Convo Dinners ever was a
garden event helmed by
George and co. at the
Puspita House outside the
so-called “9th College
Gate”.

We used the giant cloth

from the Love Came Down
Easter production in 2007
as a canopy of sorts.
Aug ‘09
“Let Our Light Shine Forth”
was the theme that year.
Nov ‘09
PKV has always believed
that the men should rise,
though we are few in
number.

Thus the idea for

M.A.C.H.O. was mooted;
“Men After Christ’s Heart
Only”. After several failed
attempts at jump-starting
the fledgling men’s
ministry, perhaps it might Photo by Carey Wan
finally take off this year?
Nov ‘10
The 40th Photo is sadly
blank because the
photographer accidentally
deleted the photo of
PKVians visiting Jing Jing in
hospital.

It seemed an apt depiction

of the role the PKV
community plays.
