Harmony Day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This year, St Mary’s School would like to acknowledge the cultural diversity of our
nation and school community. March provides the perfect opportunity, with
Harmony Day being celebrated at our school on Monday 23 rd March 2020. This day
is celebrated each year as a way of recognising the wonderful array of cultures and
communities we have in Australia. Due to the business of this time, we wanted to
keep this day simple and meaningful.

Orange is the symbolic colour of Harmony Day, and as such, we would love for the
children to come to school dressed in orange free dress. This can be kept simple
with an orange top, socks or even a sweat band! Alternatively, if your child has a
national costume or traditional dress based on their family heritage, they can wear
this also. These children can change into orange free dress if they please.

Within their classrooms, children will create Harmony Day bracelets, using the
colour orange as their inspiration. Furthermore, if you have anything traditional to
your culture, that you are happy to send into school, please do! Send them in with
your child and allow them to explain to their classmates what these objects are for
and what makes them special or traditional within your culture. We would love to
celebrate all these wonderful cultures in our school!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Thank you,

Miss Kelsey Stribbling
