Theory:
Unit – 1
Modern equipments for surveying :

Digital levels and theodolites, Electronic Distance measurement (EDM), Total Station and
Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Digital Planimeter.

Surveying Astronomy:

Definitions of astronomical terms, coordinate systems for locating heavenly bodies, geographic,
geodetic, geocentric, Cartesian, local and projected coordinates for earth resources mapping,
convergence of meridian, parallel of latitude, shortest distance between two points on the earth,
determination of latitude and longitude.

Unit – 2
Photogrammetry :
Principle, definitions and classifications of terrestrial and aerial photogrammentry, flight
planning for aerial photography, scale and relief displacements of vertical aerial photographs,
stereoscopic vision on vertical photographs, computation of position, length and elevations of
objects using photographs and photo mosaic.

Tilted Photographs:
Introduction, scale of tilted photograph, ground co-ordinate form a tilted photograph, tilt
displacement, computation of tilt displacement, and rectification of tilted photography.
Stereoscopic Parallex:
Introduction, principle of the floating mark, stereoscopic method of parallax measurement, parallax
equation, elevation by parallax, differences.
Introduction of remote sensing (EMR, EMS), sources of remote sensing black body radiation, Maxwell
equation, spectral signature, influence of hemispheric constituents etc.
Unit - 3
Remote Sensing Technique:-
Type of remote sensing, active, passive, in active remote sensing (Radar, Lidar etc) in passive remote
sensing, satellite, images.
Data acquisition and data processing: data acquisition, different type of remote sensing platform, sensing
system MSS, TM, IRS, SPOT, SEA, SAT nova etc.
Global Information System (GIS) : Definition principle, components and advantages. Working, and
detailed application.

Unit - 4
Data processing:
Recording at Earth station transportation of data from HDDT,TOCCT. After applying all corrections,
geometric and radiometric.
Fundamental of images interpretation:
Basic concepts of visual and digital techniques. Instruments used in interpretation. Application of remote
sensing in Engineering.
Unit – 5
GPS Surveying:
Introduction & components of GPS, Space segment, control segment and user segment, Elements of
Satellite based surveys-Map datums, GPS receivers, GPS observation methods and their advantages over
conventional methods.

Digital Terrain Model (DTM): Topographic representation of the terrain and generation of DTM on
computers using spot heights and contour maps.

Surveying Project - Student will go for one week Surveying Camp to carry out Project Work.
