TESTS FOR SOIL INVESTIGATIONS

FIELD TESTS

1.
Vane shear tests at 1.5m in soft and firm clays and silts (cohesive) using GENONOR vanes
There shall not be SPT for such soils for SPT less than or equal to 4.
2. SPT for firm clays and silts (COHESIVE) with SPT > 4, sandy soils (COHESIONLESS) and residual
soils (COHESIVE AND COHESIONLESS) and weathered sedimentary formation.
3. Peat samples using a peat sampler if peat is encountered

SAMPLING

1. Undisturbed samples in soft and firm clays and silts using a thin wall piston sampler
2. Disturbed soils from the SPT split spoon sampler
3. Triple tube core barrel for Grades III, II and I rock

LABORATORY TESTS

1. Natural moisture content


2. Atterberg Limits
3. Sieve analysis
4. Hydrometer for fine grain analysis
5. pH and sulphate content
6. Organic content
7. CIU triaxial tests
8. Consolidation tests for all UD samples
9. Point Load Index
10. Unconfined compression tests on Grade III, II and I rock
11. Specific gravity for all samples.
