OBJECTIVES
To determine the pH value of soil sample from
different sampling spot; paddy field, baiduri
caf and mechanical workshop block.
To identify the type of soil from different
sampling location by using porosity chart.

PROCEDURE
Soil sampling procedure
1. Three different spots/location will be selected to take the
soil samples.
2. A sample of soil will be taken by using Auger sampler with 3
inches to 2 feet of depth for each location.
3. The soil will be stored in a container that provided by the lab
technicians before the test.
4. Each soil sample will be divided into two; fresh soil and dried
soil.
5. Dried soil will be kept in oven for 24 hours at 110C while the
fresh soil kept in room condition.

CEV444_PRELAB_UITMPP 4
PROCEDURE (CONT.)
pH test procedure
1. 50g of fresh soil sample will be taken and measured by using
weighing scale.
2. 250g of distilled water will be taken and measured by
weighing scale.
3. Both fresh soil and distilled water will be mixed well in a
beaker.
4. The pH of the mixture will be measured by using pH meter
and recorded.
5. The step 1 to 4 will be repeated for other samples from
different locations.
CEV444_PRELAB_UITMPP 5
PROCEDURE (CONT.)
Determining types of soil procedure
1. 500g of dried soil sample will be taken and weighted by using
weighing scale.
2. The soil sample will be crushed with mortar.
3. The crushed soil sample will be sieved with sieving machine
with different diameter (0.05mm, 0.002m) to classify the soil
composition.
4. The soil composition will be calculated to determine the type
soil sample.
5. The step 1 to 4 will be repeated for soil samples from
different location.
