BASICS Multivoice

Essential Settings on your FleetBroadband Terminal

First, configure your FleetBroadband User Terminal as described by its manufacturer.

This reference identifies essential changes then needed in the set up of specific makes of
FleetBroadband User Terminal, to interface correctly with your BASICS Multivoice unit.
You may need to upgrade the software to a compatible version. You will need to set the User Terminal
netmask to /16. You may also need to configure port forwarding. These tasks are described below for
each make of User Terminal.
We recommend the use of a /16 netmask to achieve compatibility with your FleetBroadband User
Terminal with only minimal configuration changes. If you nevertheless wish to use a /24 netmask, you
will find instructions in the User Manual.
Note: BASICS Multivoice does not perform PIN entry, and does not automatically take the User Terminal
out of Pointing Mode. These must be performed using the relevant processes for your particular User
Terminal (for example, using Inmarsat’s LaunchPad application or using the control-panel/buttons on
the User Terminal).

Thrane & Thrane User Terminals

Minimum compatible software version to support BASICS Multivoice on the FB250 or FB500 is v1.18.
FB150 is not supported due to limitations of the FB150 device.

Step 1 Configure a network user group

Use a standard web browser to access the configuration.

Leave the default IP Address unchanged (with a /16 netmask).
Under SETTINGS > LAN > Network user groups, select an unused User Group and name it Multivoice. (It
should be an unused one and not the default group.)
Configure it as follows:
  l Status 'Enabled'
  l Internet Connection 'Router Mode'
  l TCP/IP 'Dynamic IP Address'
  l IP Header Compression 'Enabled'
  l APN 'SIM Default'
  l Automatic Activation 'Disabled'
  l Primary 'Standard'
  l Secondary 'Standard'
(Note that the APN actually used for the Multivoice service is specified by the BASICS Multivoice unit).

Step 2 Configure a network classification table

Under SETTINGS > LAN > Network classification table, create a new entry (or edit an existing entry) to
have the following properties:
  l MAC Address '*'
l IP Address '192.168.0.199', or the IP address configured as VOCALITY IP ADDRESS for
BASICS Multivoice, if it has been changed from its default
  l LAN Port '*'
  l Network User Group 'Multivoice'

Step 3 Configure port forwarding

Under SETTINGS > LAN > PORT FORWARDING

BASICS Multivoice needs to use port-forwarding in order to route received IP packets to the BASICS
Multivoice device. The following assumes that the BASICS Multivoice device is configured with the
default IP Address 192.168.0.199.
If no other data services are being used in the User Terminal, then it is a simple matter to configure all
incoming ports to map to the BASICS Multivoice unit:
Active Incoming Port Range Destination IP Destination Port Range
<check> 1-65535 192.168.0.199 1-65535

Table 1-1 Thrane port forwarding settings, no other services

Uncheck all others and choose the <APPLY> button
If there are other data devices/applications present, then you will need to configure the specific ports
which the BASICS Multivoice unit uses instead. 5060-5061 are used for SIP signalling and 16384-18000
for RTP (VoIP audio packets). BASICS Multivoice may also use 53 to 53 for DNS but the Thrane device
will typically act as the DNS server, so there is no need to configure this.
Active Incoming Port Range Destination IP Destination Port Range
<check> 5060-5061 192.168.0.199 5060-5061
<check> 16384-18000 192.168.0.199 16384-18000

In both cases select 'Port forwarding: enabled'.

Step 4 Choose to use external PBX

Under ADMINISTRATION > MULTI-VOICE:

l 'Using external Multi-voice PBX' - select this option
l 'Use Additional Numbers' - set to 'No'
  l Leave APN blank
