Ogle-Lee Retired Teachers’ Association Executive Board Meeting – September 12, 2017

The September 12, 2017 Ogle-Lee Retired Teachers’ Association Executive Board Meeting was called to
order by Co-President Jean Whipple at 10:00 AM at the Byron Public Library with the following members
present: Jean Whipple, Carole Sutton, Linda Kenney, Marvel Blomberg, Phil Bratta, and Elke Grennan.

The minutes from the June 13, 2017 Executive Board Meeting and the July 11, 2017 Membership Meeting
were accepted as printed.

The treasurer’s report presented by Linda Kenney was approved. As of September 11, 2017, the checking
account balance was $8349.29, the Memorial Fund balance was $1615.81, the Life Account balance was
$7587.37, with a Total Asset balance of $17,552.47.

Keith Erhart, retiring Legislative Chairperson, could not attend and will not be at the October meeting.

Jean Whipple, membership chairperson, reported no recent retirees joined as a result of our mailings.
Personal contact by current members has been our most successful membership recruiting method.

Jean Whipple and Carole Sutton will be at the TRS Meeting in Dixon on October 3, 2017 at 4:30 PM (set-up
table at 3:45) to distribute IRTA and Ogle-Lee RTA information to teachers planning retirement. The motion
by Linda Kenney and seconded by Carole Sutton to authorize Jean Whipple to purchase snacks for attendees
up to $20 was approved.

The IRTA State Convention will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Springfield on October 30-31, 2017.
Our previously approved donation of $500 to the Political Action Fund will be mailed in and listed in the
Convention Program. Joe Thiele, Region 1 Director and the 2017 Ogle-Lee Unit Honoree, is attending.

The election for officers and revisions to the Constitution and By-laws will be by voice vote. The revisions
were listed in the July11, 2017 agenda packet, posted on the website, and will be included in the October 10,
2017 agenda packet. Nominations for Co-Presidents are Rebecca Cheek and Michele Glen (only one term).
Kim McKenna has agreed to serve as Legislative Chairperson. The position of Webmaster is available.

The October 10, 2017 Membership Luncheon Meeting will be at the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center
near Oregon with Social Hour beginning at 11:00 AM, the business meeting with elections and AMBA
Representative Chris Gluck at Noon, lunch served at 12:30 PM, and the program featuring KSB Hospital
Dietician Gail Beck following lunch. Mary Gardner will lead the Pledge and give the Invocation. Collection
baskets for the Political Action Committee and Legal Defense Fund will be available. The luncheon fee is
$15.00. The meal includes a plated salad and rolls, roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple crisp,
iced tea, coffee, and water. Reservations are due by September 29, 2017 to Marvel Blomberg and by October
2, 2017 to Jean Hoff. Retiring 45th District State Senator Tim Bivins will be invited. Valet parking available.

A discussion of membership meeting locations, times, and formats to encourage increased attendance
resulted in no action. Member input will be requested at the next membership meeting and posted on the
website. It will be a discussion item for the November board meeting.

Phil Bratta, Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee, will discuss options for the awarding the next Ogle-
Lee RTA Scholarship at the November Board Meeting.

The next Executive Board Meeting is on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Byron Public
Library.
