Mapping Your Academic Career

 Geospatial technologies have been incredibly helpful in not only our growing world, but

in my personal life as well. I am striving to be a Respiratory Therapist and Eventually

apply for PA school with an emphasis in orthopedics. When thinking about my career

choice and the medical field in general, at first, I thought that geospatial technology

played absolutely no role in it. However, as I stated thinking about it more, I realized how

many patients are seen in a hospital that cannot get themselves to the hospital. For

example, they must be picked up from somewhere (their house, mountains, side of the

road, etc.), and without geospatial technologies would these first responders ever be able

to track down their location? I believe geospatial technologies have helped and continue

to help when it comes to saving someone’s life.

 Academically, my current goals are to become a Respiratory Therapist and do this

through Utah Valley University. I am about finished up here at Salt Lake Community

college. This summer semester is my last semester and I will be graduating with my

Associates Degree. It will be a General Associate’s of Science Degree. I have already

applied for UVU for this coming fall semester. There are a few things standing in my

way such as the TEAS test that I will have to complete in the fall as well to be able to

apply officially for their program. I am only able to apply once a year. I need to work

hard and continue to strive for this goal and or dream of mine to make it a reality.

 Looking at my DegreeWorks has helped me through my college experience at SLCC

immensely. I thought it was super helpful to have a system that helps guide you through

your academic journey and help you achieve your goals. I am right on schedule for when

I predicted I would be done with my Associates Degree. I have met with my advisor
multiple times through my time at SLCC and this has also been a huge help and push in

the right direction. I have also met with my academic advisor at UVU and well as the

Respiratory Therapy advisor at UVU and have got great information from them. I was

able to match my Associates Degree with their pre-requisite requirements for their

program and should be able to apply for it this fall for tis upcoming spring. I consider

myself very lucky to have all the resources and people willing to help me reach my

academic goals.
