According to the German Fed-
eral Statistical Office, 71.7 per-
cent of all serious car accidents
with injuries happened during
daytime in 2001. This hazard
can be significantly reduced by
the use of daytime running
lights.
Pioneer Scandinavia
The introduction of daytime run-
ning lights in Scandinavia in the
1970’s showed that having the
headlights on during the day re-
duces the number of accidents
and helps to save lives. The
number of multi-party accidents
(2 or more cars involved) in on-
coming traffic was reduced dras-
tically. European-wide field tests
have proved that 50 percent of
all accidents and 80 percent of

all collisions at junctions, which
take place during the day, happen
because drivers either see each
other too late or not at all.
Whether blinding light, low sun,
lack of daylight contrast or the
shadow of a forest: in these
situations you easily end up in
the wrong lane when driving
without light.

problem during daytime is not
to see but to be seen.

running lights

time running lights alone as much
as 25 percent of all deadly acci-
dents and 35 percent of collisions
of approaching vehicles can be

running lights

Why should I use LIGHT@DAY bulbs?
Driving with lights during the day significantly decreases the
risk of accidents. The statement „I have seen the other one
too late“ is the reason given most often for accidents. When

you drive with LIGHT@DAY bulbs, you will be far better no-
ticed. Several European studies and field tests have mean-
while proved this correlation.

Do LIGHT@DAY bulbs have to be changed more often?
No, they don’t. As a result of their special technology,

bulbs. In other words: although LIGHT@DAY bulbs are used
day and night, they ensure the same replacement intervals
you are used to with your current standard bulbs.

Is driving with lights during the day more expensive?
A slightly higher fuel consumption has been noted (max 1%)
which, however, can easily be balanced by a conscious driving
style. Even air conditioning consumes twice the amount of fuel

purchase than other bulbs. But the investment pays as a small

Doesn’t the broad use of daytime running lights lead to
an increased risk for motorcyclists and cyclists?
A legitimate question as in many countries the use of daytime
running lights was so far limited to motorcyclists. You might
think that they might not be noticed as well if daytime running
lights were used by all vehicles. Tests have shown, however,
that daytime running lights on cars do not compromise the
visibility of motorcyclists. The result: everyone can be seen
better and no one is seen worse than before!
