Hi everyone

My name is Siebrecht Vanhooren,

and I call myself a person-centered, experiential and existential therapist.
And what inspires me the most about the existential approach
is that it leads our attention right to the core of what it means to be human.
The existential approach moves beyond the average approach
because it targets the challenges and themes which matter in the end.
Scholars have describes these challenges as the ultimate concerns or existential
givens.
And these are the existential themes we encounter during our life.
These questions are questions without an answer, such as:
how do you cope with death and with restrictions during your life?
How do you fulfill your need for autonomy and relatedness?
What is your answer to the question of freedom?
How do you make choices and how do you cope with your responsibilities?
What makes your life meaningful, but also, how do you cope with meaninglessness?
How do you live with uncertainty and the Un-Known?
And last but not least, how do you embody all these challenges and the essence of
your
unique self?
Let’s make this clear: I don’t have the answers,
but I learned that being aware of these existential givens
made me a better companion, therapist and counselor.
It also enriched my own life and deepened my continuous search for meaning.
