3c Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections of conclusions.
☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
X☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

MultiMedia Tools: Video
Lesson idea implementation:
In the Lesson the teacher will be able to send the student the slides in Spark Adobe to review. The students
will then be able to gather information through videos, pictures, and the text. It will take about 20 minutes to
complete. The students’ learning will be assessed where they will write a two page story about a certain topic,
where they have to at least use 5 similes and 5 metaphors. The final product will help the teacher to
individualize learning by giving the student more practice of using similes and metaphors by showing them
what they look like in sentences and see if the student can identify them and create their own. I will extend
the learning level to a higher level by allowing the child to incorporate similes and metaphors as they create a
story about a topic of their choosing. The stories could also be posted on the school blog where they are able
to share what they learned with other 5 th grade students learning about similes and metaphors. They will also
be able to share this story to parents and other students. I will end the lesson by having the students mention
some of the similes and metaphors in their stories. I will provide feedback by pointing out the similes and
metaphors that did not make sense or were not correct and help them correct their errors.
Importance of technology:
Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical because it allows for students to use technology such as videos
and pictures that they are more accustomed to using outside of school. It allows for students to get
information outside of class where the teacher is giving instructions and explanations. The project could be
done without technology by just giving the students written out instructions and text of the lesson, but it may
be harder to understand. If everything was printed, some aspects would be lost including the ability of the
teacher to elaborate on how to use similes and metaphors in a video. If everything was printed out with text
then the teacher could not show pictures to elaborate on what the they tried to convey. If the students want
to type out their story on google docs and send it to the teacher they can.
Inspiration (optional):
Reflective Practice:
The AbodeSpark slide show could impact the students learning by providing examples of similes and metaphors through
videos, giving them an assignment where they use this knowledge to create a story. This will be at the beginning of the
unit about similes and metaphors. In order to further extend the lesson, students could share the stories with 5 th graders
in other classes to see if they are able to pick out the similes and metaphors found in the story. This would extend the
knowledge of other 5th grade students. The stories could also be posted on the school blog where they are able to share
what they learned with other 5th grade students learning about similes and metaphors. I would also create a Quizziz in
order to see if the students would be able to get the correct answers when it comes to identify similes and metaphors.
