Why should Managers embrace Design

Thinking?
With rapid changes in technology and increasingly complex business models demand
multidimensional solutions that are beyond basic applications of current product and services.
Organisations have shifted from developing existing ideas to be more attractive to customers to
creating value propositions that dramatically impacts their customers. Changing times require new
approaches; managers need beyond quantitive data and build a user-centric approach, observe the
behaviour and draw conclusions from what people want and need.

Design thinking is a continuous iterative process where the existing knowledge always questioned,
and new knowledge acquired to help in redefining the problem in an attempt to find new solutions
and strategies that might be missed with our initial level of understanding. The approach helps us to
dig deeper to uncover ways to improve user experience.Design thinking is a process that drives ideas
faster, keeping up with and anticipating social changes. The approach helps managers to think and
work like a designer to match people’s needs with technological solutions and viable business
strategies that can convert into customer value and market opportunity.

Design thinking can be applied by everyone at every level of an organisation, product or service to
drive new alternatives for businesses and customers. Design Thinking makes the customer the main
focus of design for any solution rather than obsessing on features. Understanding and creating
solutions that addresses the pain points in customer’s experience better, helps in incremental
increase in revenue. To stay relevant, organisations must innovate without disruption to drive
growth and profitability. Increasing the speed of innovation helps organisations stay ahead of the
competitions. Design Thinking gives managers the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary
teams and view a problem from a different perspective with different viewpoints. Embracing design
thinking leads to inovation and new opportunities that might have been missed.
